Before Barbenheimer, there was “Apocalypse in Pink,” the August 1983 theme of fashion/culture magazine SPECTAGORIA. The issue’s controversial imagery of Barbie-esque models attempting to stay gorgeous and glamorous amidst nuclear annihilation sought to, in the words of editor/photographer Sera Clairmont, “revel in the morbid absurdity of the new American condition,” an “anxiety vibrating underneath all our plastic smiles.”

“It’s The Hot Pink Cold War,” Clairmont wrote in her introduction. “It’s ‘Material Girl’ on the radio and ‘WarGames’ at the drive-in. It’s ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ interrupted by the emergency broadcast signal. We’re told to look sexy, dress fashionable, make money, and spend money, but be sure we’re just the right amount of terrified about the bomb. Get that Malibu dream home, keep working on that perfect body, sip cocktails by the pool in your little pink bikini and watching the stocks go up — but STAY VIGILANT! and for God’s sake vote Republican, because that dream home could melt into a pink plastic inferno at any given moment. Just don’t stop smiling as the blast liquefies your skin into bubbling ooze like a Barbie doll in a microwave - it’s bad for the economy.”

In Fionna's home-universe, there appear to be human equivalents of:

This section appears to potentially be a dream sequence.

This bird has a teenager/adult Marceline face on its chest.

This bird-like creature doesn't seem to resemble anything in particular, but still seems like it has a specific design. Vaguely reminded me of Orgalorg at first, as well as Cosmic Space Owl.

I haven't a clue what this one is, but could also represent something.

This one shot in particular fascinates me. I mean, look at it. There's a drastic change in art style, there's a...flamboyant looking character with the Ice Crown, although it doesn't appear to be Simon.

As well as the weird, long-nosed blue twins coming from behind the magnificent ice piano. I have no idea what those are.

If this shot follows the one before it in the final episode, well...Maybe a bit too much "flamboyancy" is radiating from this ice character.

Anyway, PRISMO!!! Love to see it.

Don't know how, but it seems like our 2-dimensional friend is going to serve as the catalyst for Fionna and Cake's (and Simon's) multidimensional adventures.

Another bit of speculation - this world.

Features humanoid, but very non-human inhabitants.

Cartoonishly futuristic tech and architecture - could this be a more fleshed out version of the VR world from the "Islands" miniseries?

Also, unless this is just some strange case of reusing assets considering they're in the exact same pose and angle - seems like these two could potentially be recurring characters.

Probably missed a lot, and there's a lot to speculate on here. Please tell me what you think.

I cannot put into words how much I Fucking Loathe the fact that when you search something on youtube now it will randomly intersperse blocks of "people also watched" and "for you" into the results. That's not what I searched for, youtube. I typed in a search query because I wanted to see search results, not random unrelated garbage you have placed in my way apparently to either inconvenience me or force me to scroll further for actual results. I despise your wretched little games and every time I see it I can only instantly close the tab as I am overcome with the urge to burn something down.

"I despise your wretched little games" perfectly conveys how I feel about the entire algorithm/attention economy

They also refuse to actually show the parameters you searched for. If you sort by “upload date,” the first few videos might be more recent ones by upload date, but anything past that you’ll find a video that was uploaded five years ago, then five months ago, then three years ago, etc, which—NO! That’s NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR!! PUT THEM IN ORDER!!!

Also sometimes the “people also watched” bullcrap will not only be entirely unrelated, it will also be videos with violent, sometimes outright triggering thumbnails. I’ve gotten some AWFUL unrelated video thumbnails just when searching for video game music videos.
