MINI RANDOM DISCUSSION: EZRA’S BRUSH WITH THE DARKSIDE

I still find this part very interesting.

Whilst Ezra drew power from the darkside of the force, towards the end it looked like he was in pain and even his eyes roll back into his head as he collapses unto the ground.

It’s interesting because Kanan has once said (in Siege of Lothal when he and Ezra are looking toward the remains of Tarkintown if my memory serves me correctly) that there was going to be a consequence for every action they take.

Similarly enough, I believe that this scene is a good of that representation of what Kanan means. (Even though the quote was after this episode. It still counts.)

Ezra unknowingly gave into the darkside and whilst it gave him temporary power, the act almost cost him his life. I believe Ezra looked to be in pain because he felt that, what we’ll call ‘the cold’, was this mass of great power that he maybe even for a few moments liked.

I think with this in mind he saw past the power and felt a great darkness, and he felt 'the cold’. This moment would probably be when he realised that it was born from his own dark emotions that he left locked away in his heart, which were now overwhelming him with this power. This probably frightened Ezra and he tried to severe the connection he had made. 'The cold’ did not like this rejection and tried to drag him back causing Ezra to almost fall into cardiac arrest as he barely escaped the dark temptation, negativity and power.

To me this explains as to why Ezra doesn’t remember the events of his trip to the other side. It was so overwhelming and foreign to him that blocking it out was the only way he could protect himself from it. 

Ezra let his emotions run wild which caused him to fall to his own darkness. Whilst this was temporary and he did manage to pull himself back, there was still a consequence to his actions. The consequence almost being his life.

It could even be a bit of a stretch to say that this could foreshadow from the beginning that Ezra falling into darkness could be his downfall.

The only reason I doubt this is because despite the dark emotions Ezra keeps locked away, Ezra is at heart, a good person. And he has a family whom love and support him. But then again, death takes and never returns nothing but grief. Hmmm. It’s something to think about.

Still, this scene was still intense. And I think we can all agree that Ezra and the darkside don’t mix.

BONUS:

And this was the moment where Kanan stopped switching between teacher and “big brother” figure. He became a father.
