so here is what NOT to do if you’re a loyal fan of adobe who has the cash to shell out for a newer and shittier version of the product you already paid for.

1) DON’T use your search bar to find and open the Run app

2) DON’T type in services.msc

3) DON’T find Adobe Genuine Software Integrity Services and right-click to get a dropdown menu, and don’t select ‘properties’

4) if you happen to click properties, DON’T use the startup type dropdown to locate the option to disable the program. be sure you DON’T click apply to finalize that change. 

5) DO NOT do the same thing in order to also disable Adobe Genuine Software Monitor 

if you do all of these things, this WILL disable adobe’s ability to monitor the software, and you will be forced to continue using the same older software that you already paid for instead of having to sign up for a newer, shittier version and pay more for it. so if you have lots of cash to spare and are cool with putting it the pockets of racketeering capitalists, definitely don’t do any of these things. 

however, you SHOULD reblog this to spread the word, as we certainly want to make sure lots of people know what NOT to do :)

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Sorry I've been offline for so long. A lot has come up over winter break. Some falling outs, truck issues, issues with payments for college (tbh, if your students have to drop a class bc they can't afford the required material there's an ISSUE), and on top of it I had surgery on Friday (1/10/20) - which holy mother of goats this hurts so much. And money is??? Non-existent now so. And just when you think the world can't bite you any worse you hydroplane during a storm on your way back to college the day after your surgery and have a panic attack bc it's the first accident you've ever been in.

Anyways, I'll be back on here as soon as I get myself grounded and maybe as soon as I stop wanting someone to run me over because my pain medications aren't working.

This post wasn’t about “who was better than who” it’s asking for people not to dehumanize people who you’ve been told are less than you because they live in a different country and their culture is different from yours. Because turns out, they’re not that different from you at all. To imply that either one of these nations is better than the other is to ignore what the message was about. There are people suffering, and people still want to say “but America is still better-“ BUT AMERICA NOTHING. Stop playing games these are real people suffering at the hands of American “soldiers” who are nothing more than “bodies on the ground” to our government. But America nothing! It’s covering up the damage they’ve done, and theres too much information out there to be saying stuff like this. But. America. Nothing.

Have you seen people going bankrupt due to health care issues here?  Have you seen that people in this country who work are literally going hungry because they cannot afford high rent and high food cost and high health care costs? Children in our country are being punished for not having lunch money. For fuck’s sake.  We don’t get to brag about being “better” until we stop fucking going to war over oil we could NOT NEED and take care of our people. We don’t get to brag about being “better” than countries we’ve been stepping on for almost 70 years. Like, fuck that.  Take the fucking beam out of your eye before you go yelling about what other countries look like.  I’m so fucking tired in living in an oligarchy. This shit is awful on every level and there are going to be dead children, AGAIN, and it may not be my personal fault but as an American it’s my fucking responsibility to speak up and say that what is going on right now is criminal bullshit that needs to stop. It’s a transparent attempt to bolster ONE person during an election year, and distract from his IMPEACHMENT. Whether or not the guy did anything wrong is irrelevant, this is NOT how we are supposed to do things. PERIOD. And it needs to stop. Human beings are human beings, no matter where they live, or who is in charge of their government. Some human beings are kind of shitty and most people just try really hard to get through the day, but you will find remarkable, loving, kind people literally everywhere you go, without fail, and this bullshit is going to lead to some good people dying. I’m really not okay with that. And “lol” jesus fucking christ, we’re not to a point where we get to laugh about any of this monstrosity.

hi. i grew up in the bible belt of the midwest. as a young queer slowly coming to terms with being Super Not Straight, I grew up a town where there was one grocery store and eleven churches. on nice sunny days, before real summer heat set in, the chances of well-dressed smiling proselytizing boys with free copies of their holy books showing up at your door approached 100 percent. in my high school, there were to my knowledge about four queer kids, myself included in that number, and one of them was terrified to come out or even be seen with other boys because he grew up in the kind of household where you would absofuckinglutely be thrown out for being gay.

i did not have a queer childhood. this was just as the proliferation of the internet was starting to become a thing, but your best bet to get on a computer would be to go to the local library. the librarian, btw, was a devout christian and was part of the baptist church across the street. so the idea of using free resources to reach out or research what the fuck it meant to be queer was literally not an option.

i did not get queer literature. i did not get queer media. i subsisted on fandom, because it was the only type of content i knew that talked about being queer, that was positive about it, and was often created by adults who would point you to resources to help. this was before scarleteen and teen vogue and other sites.

fandom was my queer community, because i had zero alternatives. society gave me no alternatives.

I did not get a fucking queer childhood. And if I want to sit down and write or read a story about queer teens who get a better shot, who do find love and feel comfortable experimenting with their sexuality instead of treating it like a potential death sentence,

I was a fucking kid too, and these are my stories too. they, in fact, are the stories fucking owed to me by a world that taught me to be afraid. and that part of my history as a human did not get erased when i passed some arbitrary milestone of time.

Rain (any pronouns) is a genderfluid model & posts a lot about how their ability to “pass” as either a man or a woman influences them, and shows off the absurdity of double standards such as mens vs womens olympic uniforms and societal treatment based on perceived gender

They’re also incredibly patient with transphobes and other bigots, and much more so than most of us can manage and I think it’s amazing that they put up with what people say & do

This may feel triggery at first but is worth reading through. Trans folx are under no obligation to be this patient, but some of us choose to dive into it and the rewards can be great.  I’ve got a ton of friends with teens and have been modeling and explaining to my community the science for YEARS and lo and behold a significant number of people I’ve known since their teenagers were infants are having their teens come out to them and just… supporting them. I’m far from the only one. There are whole places that parents new to this can go, and they start out where he is and see, very quickly, the science and the support modeled from other parents (including trans parents of trans kids) and suddenly they’re diving in wholeheartedly.

One of the interestingly complex issues around families is that a lot of teenagers, due to rapid brain development during puberty, have a very hard time “taking the emotional temperature” of the people around them. Even without trans issues in the mix, it takes a lot of work for teens to hear through the static that their brains are throwing up, and it takes a lot of work for parents to not take it personally when their teens are not able to modulate their emotional responses to unclear data. 

This is one of the reasons why I think it’s super, super helpful when parents can jump on board and get educated before puberty, because it’s a lot easier when you’ve got an extremely thoughtful 4 year old or six year old explaining their gender and a doctor explaining what it means, at a time when the parent is in “learning” mode instead of in “react mode.

Unfortunately bodies and brains don’t always cooperate, because there’s yeah, the “I always knew” kids who came out at age 2, but there’s also a large chunk of kids who don’t figure things out until puberty strikes, and another whack of people who figure it out during or after puberty, and that’s when things get particularly hairy.

See, MOST parents, in theory, want “what is best” for their kids. But how they shape that image of “what is best” depends hugely on their own background, how they were parented, and the social expectations surrounding them. Small town religious families often have a hard time bending, for example, where there are many specific social expectations in the culture (you will go to church, you will marry within the faith or “adjacent”, you will get this kind of job, having a girl means this, having a boy means that.) But so do families in a lot of other places. The same force that makes a parent unhappy when their child doesn’t decide to be a doctor or doesn’t go to their alma mater, all of that… that stuff tends to be generational and difficult to change. 

HOWEVER… There’s this incredibly potent argument to be had around mental health and suicide, that makes most parents, even with those complicated social expectations, sit up and reassess.  And that’s what you see up there. It’s not phrased, “If you don’t do this your kid will die”… it’s phrased, “I know you want what’s best for your kid, and you wouldn’t be asking questions if you weren’t a good parent, and let me give you another angle to look at this from.” (And then the science is presented.)

It doesn’t always work. 

But it works often enough to be worth the effort.  And it almost always needs to come from an outside person.  Because asking a kid who is struggling through dysphoria and fear of parental alienation to coddle their parent through this is often too much when that kid is ALSO going through puberty and unsure whether their parents are truly assholes who care more about their own expectations than they do the person their child actually is or just misguided. 

I’ve seen so many parents make the leap, with varying levels of grace.  But I’ve also seen so many kids whose parents failed to make the leap, or worse, didn’t even try.  If your parents didn’t make this leap, I want you to know that it isn’t because you did anything wrong or failed to make the correct attempt. In most cases, it’s a failing of family culture, and has roots farther back than you could possibly have influenced. 

But if you’re a teen, and having a hard time figuring out whether your parent is really evil or just inept, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE reach out, when you can, to an adult who does already understand the issues, and specifically someone who is working for a hotline or is already a parent of a trans kid who is supportive.  I know parents around the country who would literally open their homes to kids and young adults in a heartbeat if necessary, to give them a soft space to land from parental rejection. I know multiple parents in the town I’m in. 

This is a hugely complex issue. But it’s an issue that is moving quickly in the right direction in a lot of places. We’re at about 70 metaphorical monkeys out of 100. 

One of the most important things you can teach your kids is when and how to say no to authority figures.

And now I feel gross because I don’t know what I’m looking for to take down, and I don’t want TERFs thinking I agree with them because of a random reblog.  Hey, TERFs!  Trans women are women!  Trans rights are human rights!  Go the fuck away, my books are not for you!
