A painting I created for my artbook that felt appropriate to post now, because hot weather has finally come to my area of the world and now all I think about is being near cool, clear water 🌊
Lately I've felt super dependent on reference, so I've been enjoying drawing sessions from memory to break away from that a little.
Here’s a preview of my latest tutorial! It’s about making stylized portraits in procreate, and talks you through which brushes I use, how I choose colors, and how I stylize the shapes to transform the reference image into my own interpretation.

A mermaid and her buddies ~
For last month’s patreon challenge, I made some studies of underwater scenes. And everyone knows that underwater is the natural habitat of mermaids, so I had to add a mermaid to this study. You know, for accuracy!!
If you want to join this month’s challenge, I just posted it over on Patreon! You’ll get reference images, inspiration, and resources to help you on your way. Head on over to my patreon page and sign up to the flame tier to participate: https://www.patreon.com/loish
blue people ~ the end result of a chaotic sketch session.
Trees for last month’s patreon drawing challenge, which was on drawing trees ✨

I redid the pose from a painting I made two years ago (left). I usually don’t remake newer paintings, but this one bothered me from the moment I finished it, since the original pose felt too restrained and uncomfortable. I wanted it to feel more confident and free! I feel a lot better about the painting now.
I made a tutorial about painting street scenes! As a character artist, I found these kind of things so hard to paint at first - I just didn’t know where to start and felt overwhelmed by all of the details. But I found an easy and efficient workflow that consists of 4 main steps! My latest tutorial runs you through each step and gives tips and advice for creating urban speedpaintings. You can get it for just $5 - head on over to my patreon to get access ✨
Cat sketches! These were drawn for last month’s patreon drawing challenge, which was to create dynamic animal sketches!

Some loose sketches from my sketchbook. Did I finally draw a vehicle? Yes. Did I also discover that I cannot draw circles? Also yes.
A drawing about the special kind of anxiety that bathroom mirrors can provoke.
An ode to the lovely things that grow off of stalks!🍃
I made a tutorial about faces! More specifically, three common mistakes artists make when drawing them. When we get lost in the details and aren’t sure what’s wrong with our art, we can get stuck. Knowing how to identify problems and how to fix them can be a game changer for improvement! This 45 minute tutorial will help you troubleshoot the issue and gives tips and advice to manage them. I demonstrate my process and do a few paint-overs as well, which was so much fun to do ✨

Some loose sketches from my sketchbook! My advice: don’t mess with her unless you want a pickaxe in your face 💀 (jk she’s probably a sweetheart who likes to act tough but is a total softie on the inside)
