One of these things is not like the others
While I know that the big outlier that people are focusing on here is Gaza, I just want to quickly point out how incredibly low the coverage ratio is for Congolese deaths, especially given that that genocide has been characterized by extensive cannibalism. The Congo region mines, processes, and exports huge amounts of tin, copper, gold, diamonds, lithium and, crucially, over 70% of the world’s cobalt. In all likelihood, spoils of that specific genocide are powering the very device that you are reading this post on. There are political reasons why people are making disproportionately more noise about Gaza, yes. But if we’re going to be making these comparisons, then we need to state this outright as well: that there are equally vile political reasons why people are making disproportionately less noise about the Mbuti genocide.
