Fire and Blood (George R. R. Martin)
It's refreshing to read about a man, who remained faithful to a woman and married her as soon as he could, even if it took over a decade.
iced over, out of the sun
Your heart is very lonely, isn’t it? Is your fortress of ice self-made? Are others afraid of you, or are you afraid of them? Are you afraid of hurting them, or of being hurt? Vulnerability and connection can be frightening, but that’s no reason to shy away from their light, to tuck yourself small into corners, to build up frigid walls to keep yourself from feeling. You will heal when you allow yourself to draw closer to the flames and thaw.

i dont care to consult Fire and Blood on this but my hc is that the hightowers are like the opposite of every other house. the lannisters have their golden hair and the tullys their auburn hair and the targaryens their silver hair and the starks their dark hair and the baratheons their black hair but the hightowers have NOTHING. no single distinguishing feature nothing to keep them the same through the ages. sure during the Dance they have brown hair but whose to say it was the same five hundred years ago. they are the cockroaches (affectionate) of westeros they are more ancient than any other house because they know how to survive in some name or form, long after the oily black stone civilization and the first men and the pre-conquest times. they are the ship of theseus of noble families
ADDAM VELARYON by iris-pinrong
The accused turncloak Addam Velaryon, born Addam of Hull, had saved King’s Landing from the queen’s foes…at the cost of his own life.
Alone of the four dragons on the field that day, Seasmoke had a rider. Ser Addam Velaryon had come to prove his loyalty by destroying the Two Betrayers and their dragons, and here was one beneath him, attacking the men who had joined him for this fight. He must have felt duty bound to protect them, though surely he knew in his heart that his Seasmoke could not match the older dragon.
This was no dance, but a fight to the death.
— Fire & Blood, The Dying of the Dragons
Addam went to Tumbleton knowing that the enemy had 3 dragons compared to his 1 dragon. I don’t think he ever expected to survive that battle. But for him, clearing his name from the false accusations was more important than his own life.

Ser Addam Velaryon was determined to prove that not all bastards need be turncloaks. How better to do that than by retaking Tumbleton from the Two Betrayers, whose treason had stained him? Artist: Enife
I am again thinking about Alyn going from having short hair to longer hair…and how that might have been influenced by Addam. 🫣
It’s nothing but a headcanon, since obviously even official art is subject to artistic interpretation, but I really do like the idea that Alyn only started growing out his hair in memory of his older brother who kept his hair long.

Tbh I do wonder about Alyn’s specific reaction to Addam’s death.
His sudden hostile behaviour towards Aegon II does seem like he was partly overcompensating. Addam died trying to clear his name from the false accusations against him. So Alyn doubling down on his own show of loyalty, towards the faction his older brother died for, seems perfectly in character.
He was incapacitated for most of the war, from the burns he had over half his body, after attempting to tame Sheepstealer. By the time he recovered enough to move around, Addam was already dead. Did Alyn ever think to himself that if he had managed to tame a dragon, then maybe he could have helped Addam who had to go into a battle with his one dragon against the enemy army who had three dragons.
The way Alicent actually has Amara’s back is so wonderful to see. Like, she genuinely cares for her and will side with her and I already see it backfiring with Aegon getting jealous but still it’s so wonderful
Aaah see this is so interesting. You know how millennial parents are often accused of being too lenient with their kids and giving them everything they themselves wanted as kids (and accidentally spoiling them)? The kids don't necessarily want all those things and their needs may not be met through them. But the parents think I wanted this, so it has to be wanted by my child.
Alicent is operating on that policy and it's a bit of a delusion. But what Otto Hightower does in the next chapter is definitely going to break said delusion and highlight how Amara still doesn't have the solidity of support, just the illusion of it. The Hightowers are a team whether they like each other or not. And she isn't a Hightower by blood. That will always be a factor for the longest time.
RHYS IFANS as OTTO HIGHTOWER — 09/?
The poison drips through or whatever
I - did Otto just ask Viserys to wed both his CHILDREN when Aegon was only TWO FUCKING YEARS OLD?????? Jail, literal jail, this man is spineless.
RHYS IFANS as OTTO HIGHTOWER — 09/?
Daemon does love his brother, but his hate for Otto is stronger than his love, cause why accepting Nyra, and rejecting Aegon Aemond and Helaena? They're Viserys's children too. In their veins there's his blood, but the problem with Daemon is that he can't stand his blood is mixed with the Hightowers. This is why he sided with Nyra. The shippers speaking about loyalty, well it's easy to be loyal when you hate your opponent's guts. He proves that when he betrays Nyra to save Nettles, why he saves her? Cause he loves her, it's always about his own preferences, not loyalty. If he was loyal he would have agreed with the orders of his queen, no matter the request, no matter if right or wrong either, but he doesn't. If Daemon and Otto wouldn't be enemies, i think Daemon defenitely would have sided with the Greens when Aegon has been crowned King of the Seven Kingdoms, cause he's a man seeking power and Nyra wouldn't have stand a chance.
Yep, he hated Otto's guts, and that hate transferred onto his nephews and younger niece. People ignore the fact that Otto was also actively trying to ice him out whereas Rhaenyra was young and impressionable. She was the lesser of two evils. She was a way for him to be closer to the throne and his brother. It wasn’t true love(Nettles does show us that).
If they could’ve put aside their differences Otto and Daemon could’ve been a force to be reckoned with. At the end of the day they wanted basically the same thing and they both could’ve had what they wanted(their blood on the throne through Aegon and Baela’s union) without bloodshed, but a thirst for power/wanting to be the only one on top is a hell of a drug🤷🏽♀️
Ngl Daemon x Rhaena have disturbingly delicious potential 🤭. I feel like Baela and Daemon are a little two similar to get along in that way but either way I’m intrigued especially about how Rhaenys would react.
No, I really do see the vision with this one(and I won't lie I like it a smidge more than Baela and Daemon just because of how Daemon is not close to Rhaena at all😬). It’s a really really interesting dynamic.
Rhaenys would lose her mind. This is really unheard of even for Targaryens, but I don’t think anyone really can object 🤣Imagine if he still sent Baela off to Driftmark and had himself and Rhaena living in kings landing or wherever🤐 The mess😈
