Welcome to the Minecraft Block Tournament!

What is the Minecraft block tournament you may ask?

Well, I’m going to be pitting Minecraft blocks against each other in a tournament to decide once and for all what the best block is.

My name is Mod Ada, and I use she/they pronouns. My main is @mysticotta

Submissions open on June 25th. May the best block win!

Tagging for reach under the cut:

Main Brackets!

There are four brackets [Fave, Pretty, True, Four] comprising of 32 birds, for a total of 128 birds in this poll! I will reblog a version of this post with every bird listed via text within their bracket, so it is easier to find for those with image issues. It's gonna take a while to actually put the posts together for the first round, seeing as there are 64 battles happening, so expect the polls to go up around July 12th.

Below is a link for submitting any cool facts or info about the birds you want to win. It's not necessary to send info here, but I like to give the option to infodump about birds, and it helps with keeping things organized. As a heads up, the submission box is capped at one response only (with up to three birds in said response) just to keep things from getting cluttered.

As per tumblr etiquette, you are totally free to reblog the polls themselves with as much propoganda as you want. These submissions are just to help me fill the poll post with some cool facts.

happy disability pride month, can this website stop acting like autism and adhd are the only disabilities ever please

physically disabled people exist and we see the shit people say about us on this website - we're pushed out and ignored by our own community, disability positivity here always focuses on able bodied nd people and any posts about physical disabilities or chronic illnesses are immediately hijacked to talk about neurodivergence and mental health, and some of y'all will really act like physically disabled people are never hurt by ableism or that we're "privileged" somehow

autism and adhd positivity and acceptance are super important but please stop talking over physically disabled people or using neurodivergence as an excuse to be ableist. it's exhausting

I want to make this absolutely clear to kids: children didn't used to be stuck inside the house like you are today. There used to be public places you could hang out. It used to be fairly safe to walk around because trucks weren't designed to kill children. You didn't need a car to go anywhere so kids without a license weren't trapped. There weren't 24/7 cable news networks constantly scaring parents with anecdotes even as crime was at all time lows and the biggest danger comes from adults kids know not strangers.

It's easy to ignore old people talking about "the good ol' days" because a lot of the people saying that shit are racist assholes, but the way society treats kids today really is objectively worse than how kids used to be treated. You deserve better, and you should know that better things are possible. We just need to kill the suburbs and for-profit news.

As a kid I was playing Hide and Seek in the forest at night and it was SO much fun. Or I’d walk around and look for critters.  You could still do that now where I grew up tbh, but not where I live now. These kids here have nothing to do.

Steller's Jay (Cyanocitta stelleri)

"the crest is fun and they're cute" "They are my favourite birds. Pretty and clever. I don't know if they're going to make it though."

The Western equivalent of the Blue Jay, Steller's Jay is the only crested jay species on the West coast. They interbreed with Blue Jay sometimes in the patch of Rocky Mountains where the two overlap, mainly Colorado. Because of this some people debate if they are even separate species. Regardless, Steller's Jay ranges from Alaska to Nicaragua, having 18 subspecies in total. Some show just a hint of blue in the black section of their crest, while others have white "eyebrows". The Central American morph even lacks a crest.

"The Steller's jay is also a noted mimic: it can imitate the vocalizations of many species of birds, other animals, and sounds of non-animal origin. It often will imitate the calls from birds of prey such as the red-tailed hawk, red-shouldered hawk, and osprey as a warning of danger to others or territorial behavior, causing other birds to seek cover and flee feeding areas."

Eurasian Jay (Garrulus glandarius)

"They're super pretty and hop around very adorably" "I fear they may be too common to make it, but I love them! They're the only larger colourful bird i usually get to see here, so when I do it always makes me happy. Cool fact I just learned: they (like other jays) bury acorns in the ground to retrieve them later, but they don't actually dig all of them up again and so they have played an important role in the spreading of oak trees."

Every time I research a new bird with a large range map I'm blown away by the amount of subspecies I find. 33! 33 for Eurasian Jay! Split into 8 different groupings- thats So Many! I cant find a good map to show the split amongst them but I'll drop as many pics of their differences as I can find below. They're mostly different in face plumage.

Despite still all being labeled under Eurasian Jay on eBird, the species has been split into three separate species as of 2017. "The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Birdlife International split the Eurasian jay into three species. The subspecies G. g. leucotis becomes the white-face jay (Garrulus leucotis) and the bispecularis group containing six subspecies becomes the plain-crowned jay (Garrulus bispecularis)."

Eurasian Jay were responsible for planting most European oak trees before humans began doing so, as they transport and cache hundreds of acorns on a yearly basis. Some jays have been reported to fly up to 20km to cache!

I liked this post, scrolled for like another minute before I went “SHIT FUCK SHIT” and scrolled back to reblog it

I always reblog this one when I see it on my dash. When someone posts their own art, writing, or music here they are really hoping you will share it.

read this absolutely amazing paragraph explaining why some birds have blue feathers. me too ladies.

Bowerbirds create displays to attract girls.

They are not functional, they are just pretty. And they are quite varied and artful.

Besides, what is a sense of beauty but looking at something and thinking "nice"? I think people would be wrong to monopolise it.

Crows and other corvids are very known for collecting trinkets. I think birds have a sense of beauty.
