truly my LEAST favorite form of advertisement these days is the faux-tiktoker/influencer who is here to Sell Me Something. the “omg unbox my Pureology (TM) skincare haul!!!” “doing the #NespressoChallenge!!!” “you guys will not BELIEVE what i got from shein-“ like its scary. its WEIRD. not only do i have no idea who these perfectly manicured, babytalking people are they feel less like real people than even an actual advertiser does. stop trying to make me believe you are my friend. you are something inhuman to me. you are a changeling. you are a brand wearing ill fitting human skin and i see its skeletal shape shift beneath the surface.
Mother cats pretending to be scared of their pouncing babies is something I never tire of.
boing!
hey writers if you want to make a metaphor for racism, please maybe remember that racism is literally based on nothing. Africans weren’t enslaved en masse because the Robo-Musa threatened to destroy the world, they were enslaved because it was economically rewarding and politically convenient. If at any point your allegory for racism includes “so <oppressed group> did this major catastrophe and” then you have not only missed the point but you are literally reinforcing the ideas that racism have let racism self-perpetuate (that e.g. black people are naturally dangerous and violent and must be contained or begrudgingly accepted by the Nice White People)
This meme was on a wall somewhere when I was out of town recently and I laughed

Boomer, fragile and ignorant: “My wife is a demon (derogatory)”
Me, powerful and wise: “My wife is a demon (affectionately) (lustful) (longingly)”
just sayin'
This should be taught in school.
Destroy the myth that libraries are no longer relevant. If you use your library, please reblog.
this year’s prom theme is… *opens envelope* Great Lakes Invasive Species And What Boaters Can Do To Stop Them
And the subject of tonight’s ecology panel is *turns on powerpoint* Enchantment Under the Sea
Concepts like sex magic and fertility deities in fantasy are actually really interesting to me as a person with a lot of interest in anthropology and mythology like Yes I am curious about the weird sex that elves have but its pretty much exclusively explored by authors who are Weird Horny Dudes and forget about putting that stuff into a d&d campaign
Oh we’re talking about sex in fantasy settings are we?
Oh, famed fantasy author Ed Greenwood! So good to see you, we're having our panel down here in my wine cellar,
WAIT I HAVEN’T FINISHED TELLING YOU HOW THE DROW MATRIARCHS DISCIPLINE THEIR UNRULY MALE CONSORTS
Today's aesthetic: people who are like "this anime could have been good if it weren't for one specific detail that totally ruins it", and then that one specific detail is, like, the thematic foundation of the show's core premise.
two of my favorite (non-anime) samples of this phenomenon from twitter

My nightmare: making a typo that people are still talking about over a century later
