In the US, rich people pretend like they’re just poor (and often live in squalor because they squander their wealth on class signifiers and inefficient bullshit), and they hide themselves if they’re out in the general public; dressing like their impression of blue-color working class people is the fad. Otherwise, most of them live isolated from the rest of society behind paywalls and walled gardens where you can only catch glimpses of them in their immaculate class signifiers and cardboard cutout sets that hide the squalor and abuse.

Aspirationally rich people who grow up poor often see wealth and sudden massive gains of wealth as something to be shameful about or something to hide because the other people in their lives supposedly would never stop asking them for money and things. Such aspirationally rich but culturally poor people fear the transactional relationship that would alienate them from the people that they want to be their friends and family and community. But they fantasize about what they think sudden tremendous wealth would give them.

In the US, few people have a decent concept of what the source of freedom and well being and satisfaction in life is. They mistake the idea of sudden influxes of giant quantities of wealth as being something that literally buys freedom, well being, and happiness, and they don’t even begin to know how to fantasize about things like the freedom and well being of all the people in their society or about things like universal social material support or the abolition of the capitalist police and carceral state that we live in.

And yeah, the lottery is a scam, but most of the US economy is a scam at this point, so a lot of people can’t or won’t tell the difference.

So the hypothetical is “what are your class signifiers that you’d waste huge amounts of resources on to have?” IE how would you squander your wealth and what kind of stupid shit would you end up purchasing?

Another way of thinking about it, they’re asking you what your richsona is.

idk. I’d buy an Xbox maybe
