This blog is a collection of health topics, personal stories and just a lot of different things I feel posting about!

My Plantar Fasciitis is killing me...

Most of you out there probably are not even familiar with that word. And that's ok, because it's just another term for "the nastiest heel pain in the whole wide world". I suffer from plantar fasciitis since about 3 months and it is bad, and with bad - I mean REAL bad.

I stopped running since those 3 months because it's just painful and not recommended anyways. They say it goes away by itself if you don't stress your feet too much and rest and ice and all of these plantar fasciitis treatments that are so important to do - every day.

For those of you who are now like - planter - what? Here's a video that explains it -

Treatments involve icing and massages and all these things. Wearing supportive shoes is also recommended.

Here's the medical definition of plantar fasciitis -

The plantar fascia is a thick band of tissue attached to the heel bone. It supports the arch of the foot. Plantar fasciitis is inflammation of this plantar fascia.
It causes pain in the heel of the foot. Treatment depends on the severity of the condition.

I found this blog about how to cure plantar fasciitis on wordpress which is really helpful. Lots of tips and more. Going to do more research very soon.

So far I've only done:

  • Stretches (calves, achilles etc.) & Exercises with a tennis ball
  • bought supportive running shoes (haven't used them yet)
  • did research - still don't know enough
  • complained a lot about my pain
  • visited a podiatrist who only told me to do massages and take anti-inflammatory meds (great...)

A lot of people sooner or later turn to surgery and just cut part of the plantar fascia (what???) to release the tension (apparently). I don't know it all seems pretty crazy to me (so far). I guess when it never goes away and the pain just gets worse, at one point I would be willing to do that too. Cortisone shots seem to be an option too. Not for me though, since I hate needles (who LIKES needles, anyways?).

Anyone knows of a fool proof way of getting rid of this? Without knives or needles?
