There should have been an episode of Supernatural where Chuck decided he didn't like what happened in the previous episode so he rewrites it. The episode starts almost identical to the previous - same monster of the week, same dialogue about how to fight it - but they're in different clothes and a different part of the bunker. We keep cutting to Chuck making decisions about what he didn't like last time and changing things up, all the while Cas is getting squinty and head tilty. You see him start to anticipate which Winchester will speak next and eventually he mouths one of their lines along with them, still visibly confused.

"We've done this before..." Cas eventually says out loud.

"Hunt a vamp?" Dean replies, "uh, yeah, man. Once or twice."

Cas, existing outside of the narrative, inventor of free will, angel with a crack in his chassis, can sense the rewriting. Can remember what was said before, the mistakes they made, the lives they lost, and manages to take down the vamp in record time. We cut to Chuck getting more and more frustrated, writing random lines for the Winchesters to throw him off, sending in different monsters to distract him. But Cas saves the day over and over just because Chuck screwed his kid over so much that he learnt to defy his very existence. I just think it would be neat.

“This reads like fanfiction (it feels like it was written by a preteen, and most of such things posted publicly are fanfic)” vs “This reads like fanfiction (it has a focus on character and relationships, like the style of a lot of modern fanfic)” vs “This reads like fanfiction (it keeps referencing people and events with the assumption that the audience is already familiar with them, like how fanfic doesn’t need to rehash the source material)”

Some further suggestions from the notes:

“This reads like fanfiction (it’s a love story for the ages as long as you can overlook that the author keeps misspelling ‘you're’)” vs “This reads like fanfiction (you can tell the author was having a blast writing this and now so do you reading it)” vs “This reads like fanfiction (the author is clearly info-dumping about a very niche hobby of theirs that they’re passionate about)” vs “This reads like fanfiction (the characters keep getting put in increasingly weirder situations which you’d normally only find in fanfic)” vs “This reads like fanfiction (the author felt the need to rehash the characters from when they were first introduced instead of after several years’ worth of character growth)” vs “This reads like fanfiction (it feels like it had no editor)”

As The Ballad of Snakes and Songbirds lingers in my head, I have grown to really understand that the 10th games are as much of a tipping point for the continuation of the games as 74/75 are the tipping point of their destruction. Highbottom, the creator of the games clearly does not want them to continue. No one even watches the games and tributes die before even entering the arena. Dr. Cual is the only one who seems to love that games but she’s too vicious to know how to expand the necessity of games “correctly”.

The tenth games are a mess and could have been framed as a mistake to continue with, as Highbottom seemed to be pushing for. Dr. Gual was pro- killing the 24 tributes in whatever way, not fully playing into the killing sport of it all. She was willing to have the snakes kill all of the tributes in one go, essentially ending the spectacle with all the blood on the capitals hands. Snow combines the essence of humanity, the notion of punishment and need for entertainment to build out the continuation of the games.

All the lessons Snow learns from District 12 are weaponized to full effect by the time we read about the 74th games. Adding tvs and holograms to every district, betting on the winner, having the districts route against each other, heroizing the winner and marching them around as a prop. The victors not being able to return to normal lives and being pimped out by the capital screams like a greater punishment for Lucy’s escape attempt. Snow knows how to add stakes and, in turn, flex the power the capital holds over its citizens.

Snow road the middle for so long that he could see the cracks in the foundation and smooth them over to continue the process for years to come. Without Snow’s experiences, the games would never be as brutal and brilliantly propagandized as we see in the future, and most likely would have ended far sooner.

everything i’ve ever said goodbye to has claw marks in it and she will too

called off the duel not because i'm a coward who's afraid to look death in the eye but because i spent hours on choosing my outfit and styling my hair and polishing my blade until it glittered in the sunlight, i even wore PERFUME for this because i wanted to make sure i looked and felt my best, and what does the guy who challenged me to a duel in the first place do? shows up LATE, wearing what i'm pretty sure were his work clothes, shirt untucked and collar unbuttoned and askew, his complete lack of effort or respect for the art of duelling evident in everything about him, and carrying this chipped and scratched old blade that looks like he didn't even bother to wipe the dust off after digging it out from behind the couch where it's spent the last decade. i'm sorry. i just couldn't stand it. i'm taking him back to my place to show him how a REAL gentleman prepares himself for a duel.

[sheepishly, avoiding everyone's eyes and tugging at my collar nervously, visibly sweating a little bit] so. um. something very lgbt happened last night.

one thing about orpheus and eurydice is you guys are all like “i’m different i wouldnt turn to look at her” because you are all familiar with the story of orpheus and eurydice. but orpheus wasnt familiar with the story because he was in it lol.

yeah you can bc he wasnt in the “if you follow instructions you’ll be okay” genre he was in the “the gods will fuck with you because they feel like it that day, the fates are sealed and this story is a metaphor for grief, she’s already dead and she will always always be dead, unless the gods feel like letting you have a win that day, in which case she’ll come back wrong and you’ll have lost her anyway” genre

part of the universe's inherent cruelty that all the parts of being a grownup that you idolized as a kid are both the best and worst parts of adulthood

balance in all things etc etc but this is mostly to say that whenever ur feeling rly down about how hard growing up and having responsibilities is, it's worth trying to remember that your 6 year old self would be so excited about this. you gotta let that optimistic little motherfucker have a voice in your head, even if that voice mostly tells you to buy gushers when you're in the middle of grocery shopping

I went out in the snow with my roommate from California and we had a snowball fight for the first time in her life

Then we went in and did our homework but we were happier
