Florbo the Wizard

@lil-florbo

Twitter is gone, so I'm here now

i went to a tiny counterserve diner once and accidentally poured sugar instead of salt all over my hashbrowns and was eating them sadly anyways. the waitress took them away and started making me another one and I tried to protest, but she just snorted and said "we're not catholic here". now every time i'm doing something painful out of obligation i think about how that is not repenting, this body is not a catholic establishment, there is no nobility in suffering.

When alone, Sonic the hedgehog tends to talk to himself, or will pretend someone else is there/talk to someone/something who can't hear/understand him or respond.

This was a huge aspect in the film series when Sonic lived on his own for ten years.

In Sonic Colors, when confronted about this, he's embarrassed.

being a fucking casual is a skill that takes years of honing

you need to have the kind of soul usually reserved for monks to be able to hop on a game you have hundreds of hours on that you've been playing for years, suck ass at it, and not want to jump into the sun or get mad in chat at some 13 year old who downloaded the game last night and is already better than you . there are many others who live like me. join us

A very obscure language

The responses of people so far have only pointed out how silly it is to call Spanish obscure. So people should also know that Swahili is one of the official languages of Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda and Uganda, and is widely spoken as a lingua franca in many other countries and places. It is spoken by at least 100 million people. If these were the only two dictionaries they singled out, then it is even more transparently racist. The biggest racialised language in the US and the most common African language (besides arabic).

Also, it is already hard for any book to pass the censors but I was a bit shocked to learn from that article that for a prisoner to get a book in any foreign language, there also has to be a published english edition available for the prison to evaluate. Even Spanish books, in a country where 13% of the population are native spanish speakers. So I don't imagine inmates with less common languages are getting many options.

Frankly some of you should be hornier over weirder shit. The fear of being too genuine is the enemy of art. Be a bit of a pervert. It's good for the health. Doesn't have to be a sexual thing just own up to being a bit obsessed in some cringe shit it's fine.

we need more representation in media for people who are just dogshit at improvising snappy one liners. too many characters these days can come up with the smartest funniest thing to say in any given situation with zero rehearsal or hesitation and it's just not realistic. we need more guys who say shit like "yeah, well, um, how about you, uh, suck my dick?"

we need more characters who get hit with a one liner and instead of responding smugly with one of their own they're just like "kill yourself"

The most horrifying aspect of parents saying "my kid could do that" about art is that they never ever ever mean "wow my kid is good enough to be in a museum" and they always always always mean "I want to disrespect you so much I'll do it by implying that this thing is just as worthless as the things my child makes with their hands" and right in front of them too. Your kids can hear you u know, and the things they make with their hands are the least worthless and most precious aspects of human life I'll kill u

in conversation about white people who go to Japan and expect their knowledge of anime to culturally carry them, I was once posed with “it’s like if there was a Japanese guy who was obsessed with spongebob and came over here and thought he could get by just communicating in spongebob quotes.” This is a false equivalence because if such a man existed we would crown him king. We’d love him. Americans would fucking love that. sometimes I get sad that this isn’t a real guy I can invite to a party.

I do think it’s unfortunate that people (europeans) automatically assume that “american” style versions of foods are immediately the most bastardized version done purposefully out of lack of culture, when the reality a lot of times it’s rooted in a response of millions of poor immigrants stepping foot in a foreign land attempting to recreate beloved recipes with what few ingredients were available and affordable

take something like soul food, which is often criticized for being “unhealthy” and “just fried food”. soul food stems from slavery in america. enslaved workers were given a very limited ration, they were given very specific parts of animals and vegetables, and they often didn’t have a lot of time to cook. but they also needed to consume as many calories as possible for the long days of work. hence frying / using anything available to create fast high calorie meals. while there was undoubtedly an african influence on the dishes, there was also a native american influence on soul food (use of maize). later, post slavery, impoverished southerners continued this type of cooking, though it would branch off into sub genres like cajun
