I know Scylla has manipulated Raelle, but this scene has convinced me that she genuinely cares for her.
Just look at how she reacts when Raelle is telling her she’ll be there for her. The way her chin wobbles, how the lips tighten, the desperate laugh and how she looks at Raelle. She demonstrates so much genuine emotion here.
Scylla is not that good of a actor (although Amalia certainly is). She is being completely honest here.
Why you should watch Motherland: Fort Salem.
It has significant LGBTQ+ characters. Raelle Collar is the central character, and she is a queer girl. She immediately falls for Scylla Ramshorn, a flirty, mysterious girl with a dark secret, and the two start a relationship.
Raelle and Scylla are both main characters, and their relationship is the most important romantic one on the show. It looks like it’s going to have it’s ups and downs, but it already has the potential to be a great love story.
The show is heavily female focused. All of the main characters are female. The show follows three female army cadets, Raelle Collar, Abigail Bellweather and Tally Craven, who happen to be witches. Fort Salem, where they train, is exclusively for women. Their drill sergeant is a woman, the head of the military is a woman, the president is a woman. All of the roles you’d traditionally associate with men, are given to women.
It isn’t anti-men though. Male witches are going to show up in episode three and the Fort Salem witches are happy to see them. So far men haven’t had much screen time because the story has focused on the training at Fort Salem.
The first season is ten episodes long, so it’s going to be a focused story and not full of filler episodes like most shows.
