damn
actually the most significant difference between fanfiction and Serious Literature is by and large the latter is written by people whose life circumstances aligned such that they had at least the bare minimum of time and energy needed to write a novel, whereas fic authors will upload an equivalent amount of words in a single chapter update between the ceremony and reception on their wedding day because an earthquake hit and they “had some free time” while the search and rescue team was digging them out of the collapsed church

The "Don't make me tap the sign" meme, edited to include the following extended caption: "Our capacity for love increases with each person we cross paths with throughout our lives, and which each moment we spend with those people. But, too often we neglect that part of ourselves in favor of others. And by the time we realize just how important that is, we find ourselves with fewer folks around to practice with. But the seven of you have something that nobody else ever had: time. All the time in the world. Time enough to grow indescribably close. Time enough to- to learn how to care for each other, how to allow yourselves to be cared for. And in the case of Barry and Lup, time enough to fall deeply and truly in love." End ID
The line between binary and nonbinary trans people is nowhere near as clean as some of yall think it is

i think the weirdest form of fandom discourse has to be when people are so deep in their insular little fanspace bubbles they forget that the bad things the characters they're blorbofying do can in fact reflect real life things that harm real marginalized people and get like. mad when someone points that out bc you were ignoring that wider real world context to make cutesy posts about your ship
like if you think two nazis being in machismo-driven gay love together makes for an interesting story, that's fine! i agree tbh, i think you could make a really interesting avant garde piece about ernst röhm, the high-ranking gay nazi who was a nazi because of the way his gayness and white supremacist beliefs overlapped and who got killed in the light of the long knives because he was so gay. it's not wrong to find a tragedy like that compelling or to feel drawn toward that sort of character. i think it's fascinating. in fact i'd kill to see a story like that taken head-on. i think having a fictional space where it's safe to sympathize with someone horrible is really, really important if you want to inoculate yourself against radicalization and understand how it happens. playing my jew card here, that's a cool story
however, and this is a BIG however, when you get invested in a story like that you can't just treat it like you would any other fandom. marginalized people aren't wrong to be uncomfortable when communities form around characters who are modeled directly after real life people who've done them real life harm—especially when on a pretty consistent basis fandoms around those sorts of characters tend to react to valid criticisms with "UGH it's the PURITEENS again fiction isn't real life!!"
like no bestie fiction isn't real life, but it's not puritanical for people to point out that trivializing and normalizing fascist ideology through fiction is dangerous and on a more direct level makes fandom less safe for a lot of us?? like instead of getting mad that people are uncomfortable with your lovingly-written, highly emotional nazi erotica maybe step back and think whether you're being a little irresponsible with your subject matter
just. idk how to tell you this but you can't expect the benefit of the doubt when you're smashing fascists together like barbie dolls and never discussing the actual implications of their fascism. like if someone brings up how weird you're being about the nazis and you respond by insulting that person or saying "ok so block me" or "ship and let ship" instead of addressing that person's legitimate fucking concerns, that's just racism. you're doing a racism. log off.
