@staff reposted a "bi-lesbian" flag, a term which, if you don't know, indulges the idea that lesbians can and should be into men, as well as it collaborates to the culture that rapes us daily. I will be deleting tumblr and, if you're a lesbian, I suggest the same.
The nature of this site is that every few years there's some kind of "misandry is totally real guys" discourse that pops up from men (both cis and trans) who are either just misogynists or they have forgotten what the world outside of tumblr is like.
Every time people keep having to explain that no, actually misandry isn't a thing (and neither is androphobia which is just misandry but rebranded to sound more progressive) but this time apparently when you explain that misandry isn't real people will call you terfy even if you're transfem.
Like I get that this shit is mostly started by weird dickheads online but I've seen like actually otherwise cool people fall for it and like have you guys never been outside? Do you genuinely think that a few people in progressive spaces not liking men means men are oppressed or whatever? Do you not see how you're parroting right wing talking points? Hey remember the lesbian TikToker whose personality was very cheerful, sweet and colorful and because of that people were telling her "You're actually pansexual" because she was "too nice" to be a lesbian? Even after she kept saying she's a fucking lesbian over and over again, and people were literally just like "Um, no you're wrong, you have to like men to not be a complete cunt as a woman"?
Not to mention all the instances I personally know of of lesbians who were bullied so badly by bi and pan people that they ended up traumatized and trying to force themselves to be straight or to at least like men. a little bit of help if you will? I'm having conflicting thoughts about two perspectives that both seem right to me yet don't match up. one would be your which is "words mean things and a lesbian is a women who likes women and not man end of discussion and we will gatekeep to defend our community because we already deal with to much shit" and "we only have one life too live and people are way to diverse to categorize them and we should just let them use what they want because at the end of the day the group of people that want us dead don't care how we label ourselves because they want us dead" i would appreciate your help in this problem.

I do agree that everyone should live their lives to the fullest without feeling the need to categorize themselves — that is, in an utopic world where queerphobia was never a thing in the first place. but it is. and, historically speaking, these apparently "restrictive" terms were hardly fought for by queer people from the past, because we needed to stand pridefully against the oppression thrown at us. and so these specific words have gained power and relevance inside lgbtq+ spaces over time. of course, however, some people don't feel embraced by any of these terms, which is fine: just don't label yourself! it's not an obligation! it is weird however to "mix" two deeply rooted terms into a bigger one that... well, already exists. specially if, in doing so, you are erasing the meaning of one of those labels completely, one that is already so marginalized and invisibilized. so no, I don't think, upon facing the extensiveness of queer history, that we should be free to make up new concepts that completely contradict others.
