Hollow Books

Just a few things I like ❤

“Crazy Dion” Diamond at one of his sit-ins as a teenager in Arlington, VA. June 10, 1960

via reddit

All of those people around him are demons

hey guys! here’s some fun things i learned from this article about Dion Diamond:

  • he did these sit-ins by himself. like idk about you, but i always thought of sit-ins as organized by groups, what kind of bravery does it take, man
  • he didn’t tell anyone about it, like he was no glory-seeker about this. his parents didn’t even know until reporters started calling them up like “hey, did you know your son is in jail?
  • when someone called the cops he’d skedaddle out the back door although he was sent to prison multiple times
  • the last time he got arrested was in Baton Rouge, and the cops were so sick of him that they told inmates they’d put in a good word for anyone who gave Diamond a hard time. (the inmates didn’t take the bait.)
  • he’s still alive!

hark, a hero of our times!

Tell me about your most anticipated sequels!

This year has SO MANY sequels I’m dying to get my hands on, it’s hard to pick just one!

Disney Books was kind enough to send a sequel my way in the form of THE EVERLASTING ROSE by Dhonielle Clayton! The finished copy is GORGEOUS, by the way, and y'all are going to love it!

Do you consider yourself a fast or slow reader?

I’d say I’m a fast reader if you go by the actual speed of my reading. On average, I can finish 100 pages in an hour, depending on the book, format, and genre. Most books I start and finish in one sitting, not necessarily because they’re that good, but because I read them quickly.

But if you look at how long it actually takes me to finish a book, the answer starts to vary. Especially when I’m reading 7-8 books simultaneously like I am right now 😂 The bouncing around means it takes several days to weeks before I’m done with a title.

How about you? Are you a fast or slow reader?

Recently I received a copy of DEVIL’S DAUGHTER from Avon Books and after reading the synopsis (and realizing it was book 5 in the series), I decided to try out the first 4 which I read these past couple weeks! I’d recommend them to historical romance fans, but I’d also say read them in order as they’re closely tied together. One of my several current reads is book 5, DEVIL’S DAUGHTER, out next Tuesday, Feb. 19!

What do all the things in this photo have in common?

The FairyLoot anniversary edition, of course! March’s theme is FAVORITES!

Okay, so the journal won’t be in the box (as far as I know… ) but it’s purple! And the box for the anniversary edition of FairyLoot is purple! Yes, it’s a stretch, but just work with me here 😅

I’m SO excited for this box! We’re getting 2 books, the fandoms are going to be ON POINT (I mean YA fantasy anything is gold for me so no complaints here), AND WE’RE GETTING A PURPLE BOX 😱

Yes, I think that’s cool. Also I don’t have my past anniversary boxes because #nospace. I already have a guess for the main book and am REALLY excited for it, plus we’re getting a collector enamel pin and a wearable item and… and… I AM SO EXCITED!

So. Yes, I rep for FairyLoot and have magical code for you. Yes, I also would be getting this box whether I repped or not, in case you think I’m just pretending to be excited (I freaked out when the March theme dropped, y'all. This is legit)

Boxes will be available on February 2nd (this Saturday!) at 1pm UK time. Make sure to snag one and you can use my code KNIGHT5 to save!

Are you excited for any upcoming boxes/themes? Have a theme/book you’re hoping to see in a box this year?

The most magical thing arrived on my doorstep yesterday courtesy of @fiercereadsya… WE HUNT THE FLAME by the fabulous @hafsahfaizal!

There are so many amazing YA fantasies coming out this year that it’s hard to keep track of them all, but this one has been on my radar since it was announced and I am SO READY to dive in! Added bonus that I can call my pre-order an early birthday present since it releases a few days before 😅

But seriously. This book. I AM NOT READY (but also totally read to start reading since I know it’s going to wreck me in all the best ways)

Don’t forget to check out the brand new cover (the one on the Kindle screen, not the ARC cover). This book deserves ALL the beautiful designs and I’m living for the new one!

(Gifted) The Blue Salt Road by Joanne M. Harris . I loooved this book! I read it in one day yesterday. I started off telling myself I would just read the first few pages and then I would get back to work, but after 50 pages I abandoned all responsibilities and just kept reading 😂 I was already pretty excited for it because I read A Pocketful of Crows earlier in 2018, and I loved that one as well, so when I heard Joanne was publishing another fairytale I knew already it was going to be great, and it didn’t disappoint! This one was inspired by the sea and selkies, Scottish mythical creatures that look like seals but can transform into humans! The writing is so beautiful I could almost smell the ocean while I was reading it! I hope this won’t be the last fairytale Joanne Harris writes, because this is shaping up to a beautiful collection of fairytales. . The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss . I tried this book a few years ago when I bought it, but for some reason I put it down and never picked it up again. It didn’t really stick with me? But I’ve only heard great things about it here on bookstagram, so I might try it one more time before I decide to donate it! . . . #thenameofthewind #patrickrothfuss #bookcover #booksinthewild #booksandnature #fantasyfiction #fantasybooks #fantasybooklover #bookphoto #bookphotography #bookphotograph #bookphotographer #bookstagram #bookobsessed #bookhoarder #bookaholic https://www.instagram.com/p/Bs8ny75nW7l/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1u5e5jcb252eu

Okay so this shit is in my likes and it’s come across my dash a few times since but this is the first time I’ve seen it since the following happened to me:

One time I was in Manhattan and I had a lot of walking to do and I was bored and was thinking about this gifset and I thought, huh, lets try it. So I did and I was thinking queenly, murderous thoughts and trying to see if people were more willing to get out of my way when I walked like this and then, I watch a guy pass me, do a double take, then a triple take.

Then he engages me in polite conversation for a block or two, tells me I have beautiful hair, then asks me out of drinks.

The soccer gender pay gap is ridiculous

Assume I’m dead and rotting when this isn’t reblogged from my dash.

When my parents ask me why I haven’t got a boyfriend yet

My response: You know they’re all idiots in my year and I’m focusing on my school work

What I actually mean: I’m gay as fuck
