Re: writers' and actors' strikes
I'll say it here rather than burying it in various tags again:
Always remember that the people hoarding the money can make the strike stop at any time.
And they, the studios and streaming services, want you to forget that their profit hoarding is the problem. They're the reason this is happening, not the writers and actors.
You can't see that movie you wanted because a studio is clutching a fistful of nickels. They can afford to pay writers and actors--large collectives of not-famous workers--something even a little bit closer to fairly. But they are determined not to, with the cruelest resolve. An unnamed executive said, and I quote exactly this time, "The endgame is to allow things to drag on until [writers'] union members start losing their apartments and losing their houses."
Get mad that you won't get your movies and shows.
Get mad at the right people.
Obsessed with going "No... i shan't say..." when it's very clear what I shan't say
richie: if you live to be 70 years old, you’ll live TEN YEARS of your life on monday
eddie: its literally 3 am, richie, please go to sleep
eddie:
eddie: wait-
if you’re like. 14 and trans on tumblr rn and getting ur first anon hate from terfs. word of advice. stop responding to that shit. theyre only gonna send more, it’s only gonna make you spiral even if you put on a strong face. report + block messages as soon as they come in, don’t let them sit in your inbox it’s gonna make you feel like shit. turn off anon for a few days, block anyone suspicious in your notes liberally for a little while. repeat as needed. don’t give them the time of day. it sucks, but like. i dont know any trans person on the internet with any following who hasn’t gotten some disgusting messages. just. be safe yknow
so many young teens feel the need to have a snappy comeback, to explain you could never be cishet bc you’re actually t4t!! or whatever but like. just. don’t say any of that. they love that shit, they eat it up. do what u can to bore them into stopping. and sometimes they dont stop, and that sucks too but like. you do not want to get in public arguments with people who can hurt you more than you think they can, its not cowardly to delete discourse posts and shit if you feel like you can’t handle the notifications anymore. like just. you may not be able to completly prevent this stuff but take a few steps if you can, it will at least lower your chances
Now that Ao3 is back. Is anyone having issues with getting to the donation page?
The page just won’t load, on wifi or data.
Read the options carefully and if you want plz rb for bigger results
For real this time!! Ao3 is (again) officially back up, huge thank you to all the volunteers who worked so hard for the past couple of days
July 11th, 5:15pm UTC
when ao3 is back up i want all of you to leave comments on the fics you were interrupted from reading, the fics you were looking to find, the fics you were thinking about re-reading, and the fics left open in your tabs for months now.
when ao3 is back up, i want you all to show some love to your favourite writers, favourite fics, or even just the 600 word one-shot that brought a smile to your face that tuesday three weeks ago.
when ao3 is back up i want you all to remember that comments and explicitly voiced appreciation are what keep writers going.
eddie changing his last name to tozier after getting married to richie because from that point on he wants to let go of his past and anything that tied him to the trauma and abuse of his mother
Literally me rn
Remember to stay of Ao3 while they are sorting the issue. Be apart if the solution!
If any Ao3 team members see this just know we’re cheering y’all on so much right now and you have all our love and support ❤️❤️❤️
Ao3 being down for the second time is the equivalent of my husband returning from war just to be hit by a car
With ao3 being ddosed, it's a great reminder why it exists in the first place.
To allow people to write or read whatever they want without fear of deletion.
After the horrors of strikethrough and boldthrough we're lucky to have such a robust site.
Ao3 is actually massively culturally important and very very good at being what it is. I’m so serious when I say that ao3 needs to be protected as the anti censorship, by fans for fans, nonprofit, volunteer run, expertly designed archival site that it is. You don’t have to read or like fanfiction to understand that on principle, ao3 is a site that should be defended.
Let's be cautious about spreading possible misinformation.
[ID: A tweet by AO3 Status @AO3_Status that says: "A group presenting themselves as a collective of religiously and politically motivated hackers has claimed responsibility for the attack. Experts do not believe they are honest about their motivation, so we urge caution in believing any reasoning they provide for targeting AO3." End ID]
if you want to help, stay off of ao3 for the time being. The attackers are ddos-ing the website and the fewer server pings we add, the easier it will be for ao3 to fix.
UPDATE: While the organization claiming responsibility for the attack claims it is for "LGBTQ and NSFW content", ao3 has said that this is likely not the actual reason.
Shout-out to Ao3 for not only being transparent in the work they're doing to try to get the site running, but for IMMEDIATELY calling out any islamophobia. They're doing fucking WORK rn, all on a volunteer basis, and while most of the comments I've seen are far and away supportive I just know whoever is in charge of their socials is watching the comments section unfold with a migraine.
Anyway this is all to say I love Ao3 and the people working on it rn are dealing with absolute chaos, so the next time someone throws out a line about "why do they need a fundraiser every year" please remember today.
