please be respectful of cultural boundaries when working with mermaids from various cultures and traditions, and be mindful not to intrude.

Reblog to save a writer's sanity.

This is really not okay.

I think some people fail to realize that men can be sexually assaulted, too, and not just by other men. This girl shoves him against the wall and slaps him three fucking times when he pushes her away. Heck, he has to push her away twice before she backs off for a moment. Then she goes right back to kissing him.

If the genders were reversed, everyone on this site would be flipping a shit. And if anyone dares to tell me that it’s different when a girl does it to a guy, I will personally write you a three-page essay on why it is still not okay.

I’m just going to REBLOG this all the fucking time

I SWEAR I WILL ALWAYS REBLOG THIS.

This is not okay. Gender does not matter. Forcing someone will never be okay. Never.

I’m looking at every single one of my 290+ followers right now, and I’m expecting you to reblog this.

Hey I hope you all reblog this AND DON’T IGNORE THIS.

Women can be just as abusive as men, despite what society tells you.

This is the post that brought my attention to the abuse of men. I hope it can help someone else.

Someone who follows me better reblog this.

SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK!!!

P REACH!!!

She hits him and still thinks she’ll get some? Abusive AND dumb!

If you see this post then you need to STOP SCROLLING because you can look at the cute cat pictures later. REBLOG and spread the word because this is VERY IMPORTANT. Everyone should be aware that forcing someone and making them do things without their consent is wrong regardless of their gender.

not only does she slap him but she kisses him?? that is sexual assault right there.

Reblog👏my👏children👏bc👏this👏shit👏is👏really👏fucking👏real!!👏

I will personally punch that bitch if I ever see her

Why is tumblr telling me I’ve already reblogged this, I swear I’ve never seen it before

Regardless, I’m reblogging it now bc it needs to be shared

This is super important. Anybody can be the abuser, and it can be more subtle that that. Always be careful.

This is so fucking important. It doesn’t matter what the gender is, anyone can be abused/sexually assaulted and anyone can be the abuser/assaulter. This girl is so fucking wrong for hitting and pushing him and just straight up continue kissing him when he’s clearly showing he doesn’t want to.

Never not friggin reblog

Anyone can be a victim. Took me until high school to learn that so time to spread the word

Y'all better fucking reblog this

Im-

Alwats gonna reblog this

Its so important

Say it with me!

Sexual 👏assault👏 is👏 still sexual👏 assault👏 regardless👏 of 👏gender!👏

Just found out Auroraarchangel is sending death threats to minors and trying to be accepted in the twisted wonderland fandom. Honey you’re fucking sick for that.

She is now stooping as low as threatening minors. MINORS! Get out of here Aurora you are a sick and twisted bitch.

Like please fucking leave the kids alone! You’re a mother like wtf are you doing!

We all know by now that Night Raven College isn’t really a school of evil, just a prestigious learning institution with students on different levels of asshole, but what if Royal Sword Academy IS a school of good?

Let’s compare their uniforms. NRC’s standard clothing is pretty par for the course for a classy school: shirt, waistcoats and a neat black suit. It, perhaps surprisingly for a “school for villains”, doesn’t denote evil intentions or exudes a dark aura. In fact, similar counterparts to it exist in real life, in private schools.

eyes and candles and crystals, oh my!

every time i hear/see a guy saying something like “so many girls don’t have a personality and can’t hold a conversation” i can’t help but think: wow, what a sick self-burn. imagine the absolute lack of self-awareness that line of thought takes. if a woman ‘can’t hold a conversation’ it’s not because she’s vapid or boring; it’s because she doesn’t want to talk to you. i can’t even imagine the number of men who have left a CoNvErSaTiOn with me thinking: “wow, not a brain cell bouncing around in that head of hers”. meanwhile i’m just desperately trying to ignore them until they get the memo that i’m painstakingly uninterested. (which, by the way, they -n e v e r- do).

💜 💀Someone reposted my work on Pinterest, and I am NOT happy. 💀💜

So it has been brought to my attention by a dear fellow artist that someone uploaded my Lucifer piece on their Pinterest.  I wrote it on EVERY bio of EVERY social media I have : DO. NOT. REPOST. MY. ARTWORK. Anywhere. PERIOD.

The person who uploaded the artwork told me they got that image from a different source than my social media (not an excuse, btw, and again, my watermark says ‘do not repost”) but funny enough, they do not remember where. (°◡°♡) And it was in good quality meaning someone either took it for Tumblr, or Twitter in the first place.

SO.

I already explained it in great length why it is extremely damaging to repost someone else’s artwork when I reblogged this very important post from @otonymous.

But I guess it wasn’t enough. So here are a few lines and doodles, in attempt to explain why it is damaging for content creators to get our work stolen (and I very much insist on this word) and then reposted without our consent and knowledge, especially when some of us are relying on it as a direct or indirect source of income.

Shady argument #1 : “it’s free to use”

This argument is often used and actually comes from a conversation I had with a (former) follower of mine on Instagram that reposted (and unfortunately, still repost) artwork found on Google and Pinterest (this is another case, and it wasn’t my own work, but sadly enough, it proves my point).

I won’t enter too much into details regarding copyright infringement laws (since every part of the globe has a different way to protect content creators: in the US you have the DMCA, in France and most european countries we have basically le “droit d’auteur” or “author’s rights”) but basically finding a content on the internet DOES NOT give you permission to reuse / repost this content elsewhere. NEVER HAD. Usually if you find artwork on Google Image or Pinterest that’s because other people stole them from social media / websites and put them on another platform.

Shady argument #2 : “the watermark”

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA no. It doesn’t work like that. (plus what type of monster would remover a watermark, uh ?)

This amazing tweet from GraphicFighter explains in very simple and educational words why reposting never benefits the artist (they even gives statistics), and why it is overall very bad for illustrators, watermark or not.

Not only because watermarks can be hard to read (especially if an alphabet / symbol system you don’t know), but also because almost no one bothers to click on our social media links when they exists – that’s basic web user behaviour.

So do you really thing they’ll have a look at the watermark and bother looking for the artist ? Nah.

Shady argument #3 : “hey artist, it’s your fault”

This one also comes from a conversation I had with someone who kept reposting artworks, and I quote their words :

the fact that the photos are freely available on Google means that they are open for use. If this is not the case, then the artists themselves have to limit it in some way, so this is the problem with them.

Needless to say, I nearly choked when I read this last sentence. It is 2020, aren’t we past always blaming the victims ?

In this day and age, Internet is the most efficient way for us to gain visibility and have a chance to get hired for jobs, so of course we post on the net. That doesn’t justify ANYONE reposting our content.

As of today, I have seen ONCE (and only ONCE) an artist put a Pinterest pin creator on their website (a tool that helps you create a pin from whatever content from their website). That is their PERSONAL CHOICE, and one that enables them to have control and redirect directly to their website once someone see their work on Pinterest. I can with confidence say that this is an exception that proves the rules and that shouldn’t justify reposting other’s artists content without at least their consent.

So again, we artists, in the vast majority, DO NOT choose to have our content put OUTSIDE of our social media. We cannot track it to see if it wasn’t linked to something shady, we cannot make sure people see our websites, we basically DO NOT HAVE CONTROL OF OUR CONTENT ANYMORE. If you found it on the net, it is probably because some other people TOOK IT, and put them “in the open” on the internet without a care in the world so no, it is NOT and will never be an artist’s fault.

YOU REALLY WANT TO REPOST ?

Don’t just assume every content creator is ok with reposts because a few content creators allow it with credit (and they do as they please, I am not here to judge them for that).

If you really, really wish to ASK if you can repost someone’s artwork and want to contact the artist but don’t know how, you can google their name (if the watermark hasn’t been cropped), make the effort to look for them on social media, or even use Reverse image Search on Google Image.

If we, content creators, spend hours and hours on a piece that you enjoy, the very least you can do is spend a few minutes to look for our name.

And if you don’t manage to find the source of a specific content despite your efforts ? Do. NOT. Repost it. Anyway. Is it frustrating for you ? Yes, it might. But not as frustrating and devastating as it will be for the person from who you steal their work and often, their livelihoods from.

💜 WHAT REALLY HELPS 💜

Reblog, retweet (without comments), reshare in your Instagram stories : show your favorite creators your love THE RIGHT WAY - a way for them to keep creating content and getting rewarded / paid for it.

Thank you.

Azul Ashengrotto Thoughts

I am too deep in the rot so here are some thoughts I’ve had about Azul. Warning: they’re long.

• Azul’s unique magic, It’s a Deal, has the ability to take anyone’s magic and skills. But we see that some abilities have many drawbacks, like Jade’s unique magic, or still a little weak, like the magic of some first years. So here’s a question I am thinking of: say Jade’s unique magic has the limitations of not being able to use his magic on someone more than once and being resisted by people with strong magical resistance or overly calculated minds, if Azul would take Jade’s unique magic, due to the magical power difference between the two of them, would Azul be able to bypass some of the limitations (he can use Shock the Heart on the same person more than once, he can make people with strong magic say the truth) that was imposed on the original user or is he forced to follow the limitations set? Because if Azul can bypass the limitations that one had to experience, that makes his unique magic very dangerous. It’s enough that he can take it so easily, but to also be able to wield it so much better because he has so much magic power? That’s powerful.

• Speaking of unique magic, there is a theory that the unique magic of a user is based on one’s personality or one’s particular experience in their life. And I am bringing this up for the next bullet point:

• Has anyone realized that Azul’s unique magic rewrites the genetic code of a person? Think about it. Azul can take away not only one’s magic but also one’s physical traits, such as changing someone’s tail (as seen in his flashback) or taking someone’s voice. Magic also seems to be something one is born with in this universe (or else we’d be hearing about people going to some place to get magic wheeze). So if Azul can take away and give back such abilities and traits, he is essentially rewriting one’s genes so they can accommodate with the loss of a trait or ability, and the same may go for giving it back. If one’s unique magic is truly based on one’s personality or experiences, there are two details about Azul that his UM gives:

Azul wants power over his peers. This one is already kind of a given, but I’m throwing this in anyway. When Azul was a child, he was bad at academics, he was (and still is) a slow swimmer, he continuously spat out ink, and he was picked on for those things. As a way of getting back on his bullies, Azul wants them to feel the same way he felt: to have nothing, to be left with nothing. By stealing their most precious ability, they can somehow feel what he felt when he was bullied.
Azul wants to change his species. By having a unique magic that rewrites someone’s genetic code, this can imply Azul’s desire to rewrite his own genes so he may change his species. He’s insecure about his true form, after all, having been bullied for it. This desire for a change in species is also seen in his flashback, when Jade and Floyd first found his octopus pot and Jade points out some of the magic spells written on the pot, one of which is a spell that can change one’s species.

• I find it bemusing whenever I see people depict Azul not wanting to eat anything healthy and it would need the reader or twins to get him to eat something healthy, when we see Azul willingly order a salad for lunch in chapter 3-7. If anything, he can eat healthy, but it’s mainly for dietary purposes. I think you would need to struggle more to get him to eat unhealthy foods since he’s so insistent on maintaining a moderate calorie intake so he doesn’t get fat 😂 (ngl though, that hard work paid off, Azul has such a sexy waist 😳😳😳).

• Lots of female Azul artworks depict her having quite the chest, and I understand that given Ursula’s voluptuous body. Personally, though, I kinda see her having a chest binder if she has a huge bust size because I think she might feel that a large chest makes her look a little fatter. On a side note, ma’am Azul is hot af no matter what and knows how to get me weak on the knees. 😳

• In the Octavinelle CM, in the beginning where the trio are in the VIP room, it’s noted that Azul has his coat and hat removed. His coat is the main thing that signifies his position as dorm head, as we don’t see any of the other Octavinelle students walking around and about with a coat on their shoulders. In one of Azul’s dorm SSR lines, he states that whenever he puts on his dorm uniform, people show him more respect. But alone in the room with Floyd and Jade, he shrugs off the coat and the hat. I like to think that Azul can remove his coat because around the twins, he doesn’t have to act as a leader around them. We know how much Azul wants power, and wearing that coat gives him that power over his peers, but around the twins, he can somehow be himself, no need for any power differences between them.

• I think some people have pointed it out, but the same CM seems to suggest that Azul’s overblot was not due to the loss of contracts, but due to the loss of Floyd and Jade, and this could be seen in the actual story. Yes, losing the contracts has deeply affected his mental state, but what exactly happened right before his OB? It’s Floyd remarking how lame Azul looks and Jade chiding him that this is not how the procedure of taking magic should go. Jade and Floyd are the two people who have stuck with Azul for the longest time, and while they will say they would leave him if he gets boring, it’s clear that the trio have a lot of trust in each other. When they came back to him going crazy, Azul begs them to hand to him their unique abilities, hoping that they side with him. But they don’t, and Floyd even calls him lame which is something you should never call anybody as when they are having a mental breakdown. And in that moment, Azul feels truly alone. His weaknesses are exposed and not even his closest friends are going to help him. It’s a nod to the original movie, in which Ursula accidentally kills her beloved eels and laments about them. But instead of losing the twins through death, Azul loses them, or rather, he fears losing them, if they were to leave him.

• Azul does not like relying on luck, and I’ve been contemplating on a reason why. But right now, I like to think his dislike on reliance of luck is stemmed from the fact he was born a mer octopus, someone who looks different from everyone else. He never wanted to be an octopus, and he wasn’t born gifted in anything either. He wasn’t born lucky, he was just lucky to be born. He had no control over what species he will be upon birth, nor did he choose his parents. And it’s because he had no choice but to be an octopus that he hates having to rely on some invisible force since said invisible force decided “hey let’s make him an octopus and make him suffer uwu”. And once he finally has control over his bullies, he finds that the newfound power and control he possessed is really awesome and wants to keep it that way, and if he’s going to rely on luck to keep his power, he fears that luck will remove that power quickly like how it removed his chance of having a decent childhood and so would rather take matters into his own hands.

• Among the four overblots we’ve gotten so far, only three of them have spoken before the actual OB battle. Riddle yells off about a world where everyone follows his rule, Leona roars and threatens to kill everyone, and Jamil is soaking up on everyone calling him ‘Jamil-sama’. But Azul? Azul is silent. He said nothing before his battle. Okay, he says some lines during the battle, but they are not stated by a voice at all. It’s a neat little reference to Ariel losing her voice and being unable to make her feelings heard. But I think more than that, there is a much more emotional impact in Azul’s silence. One key trait of his is how talkative he is. In ghost marriage, Leona points out that Azul got slapped due to how talkative he is. Azul always has something to say. He knows how to persuade you, he knows what words to use to prod all your weaknesses, he knows how to sweet talk anybody. And we know how good he is at keeping up appearances, like how he makes his contracts seem invincible for example when they are only made up of paper. But in his overblot, he has nothing to say. His contracts are gone, the one thing that made him powerful, and now he is scared that he will become a weak stupid octopus again. And what is worse? His weaknesses are exposed. And his overblot being his octopus form is a physical manifestation of his inner fragility. And Azul can’t say anything because it’s true, he is not as strong as we would assume, and that truth is out for everyone to see, and he can no longer give any lie to prove otherwise

AKA a tutorial on color theory and skin tone that you shouldn’t have had to hear from a pasty white guy.

I’m not here to talk about what brought me to do this tutorial. I’m just giving my thoughts on color theory, basically, because most of these examples, WHILE TOTALLY VALID, use other pictures as reference points to pick out color. That’s not even necessary all the time, so I’m showing how I choose skin color from the wheel itself.

We’ll be using this sneak preview of Mammon from Obey Me! with piercings, which will be appearing on my Patreon soon. I am literally willing to give you guys exclusive preview content to make this point.

For simplicity’s sake, I went ahead and gave Mammon a base coloring just to give us an area to paint in. Look at that sad, gray skin. He’s so sad. Why would you do this?

I’ll start with what I think the biggest problem is. Here’s a selection of skin tones I use for white or asian-coded characters. Some of these are color-picks from Belphie and Beel, as they’re in my palette currently, along with the tones I use for Matteo. We can see that those colors tend to be clustered towards the white corner and the top of the color scale.

I theorize that when people want to make a skin tone darker, what they’re doing is either using black and gray as their shaders, or simply dragging the color selection down towards the bottom, the black side of the color picker. But that side is also where colors are their least saturated.

Skin tone is determined by melanin concentration. Melanin isn’t a different color for different people - it’s simply more concentrated in some tones than in others. So when we’re choosing a darker skin tone, what we have to do is move down into more concentrated and saturated colors.

Here I’ve selected a few shades of “pale” skin and concentrated them to show a variety of shades and colors that can appear in normal skin tone. You may want to compare shades with the ethnicity you’re portraying before you select your midtone for that character.

The purple tones I’ve selected at the bottom are uncommon, but can often appear in the skin tones of people with extremely dark coloration, which can sometimes suggest an almost violet hue. I think that’s awesome and I implore people to explore reference pictures and models of all backgrounds to literally broaden your spectrum.

As an aside, I personally don’t even like the tones that are often used in official art of Mammon because he does still appear de-saturated in some, so I knew from the start I was going to be selecting my own color.

First point to consider: Never choose your highlight or lightest color as the base for your midtone!

What we want to do is play around with the base color for our model, and then select our highlight and lowlight tones from there. Once you’ve selected your midtone, it’s okay to slide a little vertically to get your highs and lows, but make sure you don’t lose the concentration of your pigment or you’ll end up shading your model with an entirely different color.

Below I played around with gold and copper tones for Mammon to determine the best complement to the color of his hair, eyes, and piercings. As he’s a fallen angel and technically has no ethnicity, I had the freedom to do that, but I’ve been trying to lean more towards latinx/hispanic for his overall aesthetic. (I am relying HEAVILY on other tutorials and friends who know better than me to get THAT part right. Once again, this is only about color theory.)

As a side note, #2 is probably the closest to Mammon’s canon coloration among these.

I personally use linear/color burn and color/glow dodge with concentrated colors to achieve my high and low tones. I used mainly a marigold color for this round, but I usually only end up saving the midtone color and using my background to determine the color cast of my highs and lows, so the highlights and shadows might look totally different if Mammon were standing in, say, a dark blue room with a pale light source… but that would not change his base hue.

Here’s the color palette I ended up getting after toying around a bunch. Just from a color perspective, I think this makes his hair and the gold jewelry pop a bit more while also making sure that they don’t drown out his color.

I hope this tutorial was useful, and if my BIPOC followers and friends have issue with anything I’ve said above, please feel free to correct me and add to this post as you see fit! Once again, this is only from the perspective of someone using color theory to determine these factors, and I am not an ethnic or racial minority in any way, shape or form. My opinions and views on this matter are probably flawed and subject to guidance. I suggested doing this tutorial as a passing thing and someone said that I should, so I did.

Look out for the upcoming “Demon Boys with Piercings” post available publicly on my Patreon for patrons AND non-patrons!

“You know, you guys are all so unnecessarily cut throat.” She leaned against the desk. “Like, if you guys all worked together and helped each other out then all of your projects would be actually good instead of mediocre.”

update

im not going to be online much for the next few days. maybe longer.

i got my love of storytelling from my dad. when my sister and I were kids, he wrote a book for us about our dogs. in the story, our dogs doubled as masked superheroes who would fight villains every night while we slept. when he read that story to us, that was the first actual moment when I realized that I could write too, and because of it, I found my voice.

I’ll never forget how excited and proud he was when i told him that I was writing my first story. he gave me my first laptop—an old, used, clunky thing—because of it lol

and when I told him that I made this blog to share my writing—god, I wish I had a picture of how big he smiled. I told him about whenever someone complimented my writing and he was always just so excited and happy to hear it. he was always one of my biggest supporters in every endeavor I took on.

my dad was diagnosed with liver cancer in march. on august 4th, right before I had surgery, the diagnosis changed to stage 4. he fought so hard for so long, and I’ll never forget how strong he was.

We really, really hoped he was going to pull through, that a miracle would happen, but the cancer was a rare, aggressive kind, and as I’m writing this, his battle is coming to an end.

I’m just going to miss him so much.

My mom & my sister & I aren’t really sure what we’re going to do now. On top of normal life stuff, we have a lot of medical bills too, and we could really use help.

If you can, my paypal link is paypal.me/sofiasalmeron11 and my venmo is @SofiaSalmeron

any help at all would be really, really appreciated. and i’ll come back—this isn’t a forever goodbye. it’s just for a little bit. just until everything doesn’t hurt so much.

Any tips on how to blend or find a good colour palate? I’m sure this would be helpful for beginners such as me and others who look up to you! Thanks 😌

For a lot of my color pallet challenges I’ll look up pictures of the sky and use that color pallet :D

And for blending I like to have a base color and a darker shadow color, then when I shade I do almost cell shading first with laying down very dark shadows. After that I take a very blendy brush (the oil paint brush in clip) and select the base color again and run that color through the sections of shadow, leaving the edges dark ^^
