i wish i could upload faster/more often but i have been busy & tired. i did make a number of small updates today though! including links to VPN leak checks, where to find roms and emulators, more torrenting sites, and a small dictionary section that has VERY SIMPLE definitions of some words that i used.

yep. those people all went to school to study medicine and have doctorates in their field. they all meet my state's licensing guidelines and some of them have been given awards for their treatment of patients

i used to want to be a doctor because i wanted to help people. and then i read about how state licensing boards ask invasive questions about doctors' mental health during the licensing process and how that leads to a lot of very depressed and suicidal doctors who can't get mental health help without jeopardizing their license and their income. and then i took a good long look at myself in the mirror and realized i probably wouldn't make it through all the education i'd need to be a doctor without getting mental health help. i'm not going to attempt to pursue this dream because i'd never be able to practice medicine, so i might as well choose a different field to go into instead

my parents (well, mainly my mother, who doubles as my main abuser) still want me to become a doctor. i keep trying to nudge them into accepting that that's not a reasonable career path for me without disclosing my mental health struggles because i know that that would go over really badly and my mother would probably take away the very few hard-won freedoms she's granted me as a result. my mother didn't even take the "hypothetically, i might not apply for med school after i finish university" very well. she flipped out and said that was a matter to be discussed at one of her family meetings. what i do post-undergraduate is my personal choice, i was never expecting my parents to pay for whatever graduate school programs i end up doing because i was only ever going to apply for programs that i wouldn't have to pay for

but yeah, the healthcare system is super broken here, and the process to become a doctor is highly exclusive due to the amount of money it takes to get all that education and how few scholarships are awarded, and that's even without accounting for how it's also rather ableist, and i can't get the care i need from most of my doctors, who have gone through almost a decade of education to even get licensed to treat people

It's starting to look like every time some system a rule about "people who are X must have no mental illness, every mentally ill person trying to do X must be eliminated" is just going to result in "every mentally ill X person must be undiagnosed, unmedicated and untreated."

The New Guy in the group home talks about how to get a transgender diagnosis in Finland, you'd have to have no other mental illness than gender identity disorder. Like not even depression or anxiety or anything, about having your future held hostage like that. You're supposed to be perfectly fine save for wanting to transition and not at all distressed about not being allowed that.

Here, you also have to have a perfectly clear mental health and criminal record in order to get a lisence for a gun. The BPD viking likes guns, and he's severely bitter that he'll never be allowed to get one. He actively tried to avoid any kind of mental health professionals to be allowed to get a gun once he's 18, but physically could not contain having symptoms for long enough. He would've rather had an undiagnosed and untreated borderline personality disorder and a gun, than therapy and treatment and no gun.

Wild to think that people become doctors with the exact same logic.

yeah sorry we put an algorithm on ur boyfriend, he's not gonna be fed to you in chronological order anymore. deal with it

Instead of experiencing every moment of his life one after another you'll get whatever we think will help us sell you whatever we're getting paid to sell you at the moment. Yeah you're gonna be seeing him drinking Coca-Cola and watching Disney movies a lot.

Oh also no NSFW, sorry.

AI isn't a threat to creative professions because it can actually make passable art that humans enjoy (it can't). It's a threat because in a capitalist system, employers would do literally anything to not have to pay humans living wages (or any wages, let's be real).

We've been in a productivity boom for the past 60 years, but the one area where production cannot become more efficient is the arts. It takes the same amount of time to write a novel or compose a symphony now as it did a hundred years ago. That's just the creative process.

AI represents a shortcut to making art that has had executives salivating since LLMs and AI art generators hit the internet. It means more content faster with the benefit of not having to provide salaries, sick days, parental leave, time off, or healthcare. It means not having to deal with unions and labour laws. It means cutting humans out of the most fundamentally human activity we do – making art.

All those headlines and clickbait articles about AI annihilating the human race are a hyperbolic distraction from the actual problem we may soon be facing where people won't have the possibility of supporting themselves making art (not that it's particularly easy to do as it stands).

If making art becomes a luxury only for the affluent, we will stop hearing the voices, stories, and perspectives of marginalized people. And our cultural tapestry will stop being so vibrant, diverse, and vital.

Remember to wash your sheets. I am begging you to wash your bedding

And in general, clean your furniture and upholstery. Dust, dirt, odors, sweat, and animal dander all build up. It is terrible for your skin. And it gets worse over time. Particularly dirty furniture's smell gets on everyone and everything it makes contact with. I recently overcame a rash i am positive was from sleeping on grimey furniture.

"But girlstink" NO. there is a very clearly defined line between "stinks good" and "fucking reeks."

Spritzes of Vinegar and water kill bacteria. Sprinkling baking soda on things, letting it sit for an hour or so, and vacuuming it up kills odors and further cleans. Throws, blankets, and fabric covers allow you to decorate while also having a layer of protection that is machine washable for convenience.

I hope this helps someone who needed to hear this or never learned this.

we literally need more and better feminism

we need ugly gross disgusting feminism again without conforming to aesthetics and advertisement companies i want pit hair i want leg hair i want weird haircuts i want to get rid of diet culture and ads for pink razors and make-up i want women to reject biological determinism and push away from the overwhelming tradwife narratives that social media feeds everyone ('natural hormone cycles' and 'divine feminine' and all of that shit) etc. i want more women working i want heterosexual relationships to get more balanced i also want it to be a norm for heterosexual couples to assess role assignments in the relationships and think critically about why they want children i want having children not to be something people just do because it is expected of them. I want a dyke for president. Etcetera
