Wait, How Does This Work?

on one hand, I get why circumstances would change his behavior, but I really miss Clone Wars Hunter's characterization. In Bad Batch he's so straight man all the time, no bad words for anyone, and then you rewatch the Batch's arc in season 7 and you get hit with Mr. Don't-Worry-Wrecker (🤡)-I'll-Hooold-Your-Haaaaand

Or the, “Relax wrecker, you'll Top him next time” and Crosshair, “ No, he WoOon't”

I’m looking forward to all five brothers & Omega living on Pabu after freeing the regs from Mount Tantiss, and Crosshair ragging on Hunter for being Such A Dad.

Idk I just think that “I have empathy for the friends and family of those that were lost” and “based on everything we’ve learned, going down in that death-trap was an incredibly stupid decision and anyone could see that” and “it is ridiculous anyone would pay 250k to go see a mass grave, the wealth gap has gotten out of hand so I can’t find it in myself to shed tears for the men involved” and “it is heartbreaking a teenage boy was lost because he wanted to impress his father” are statements that can coexist.

Human emotions are grey.

More Evidence to Support Omega being Force sensitive

  1. The Kaminoans only want her, not Boba. If it was just about getting a steady supply of unaltered Jango Fett DNA, they’d have an easier time going after Boba than Omega. They could pay him for his DNA, or pay any of Boba’s fellow bounty hunters (Bossk, Aurra Singh, Cad Bane, Asajj Ventress, etc.) to bring him in. He wouldn’t even be that hard to find if he’s still in jail on Coruscant. But Tech says the Kaminoan records claim Boba is “lost.” There could also have been a special stipulation in Jango’s original cloning deal saying his son wouldn’t be poked & prodded like a lab rat, but I don’t think the Kaminoans would have any qualms about violating a deal made with a dead man.
  2. We don’t get any details, but between her conversation with Echo in the med bay & her terrified reaction to returning to Nala Se’s private lab, we can assume Omega was subjected to a lot of tests & procedures. Which makes no sense if she’s just a normal clone.
  3. Omega has crazy good Spidey senses. They led her to the treasure map, Gungi the Wookie Jedi Padawan, sticking up for the crimelord’s son who tried to take over Sid’s smuggling ring.
  4. Omega’s a master of Dejarik, despite presumably never playing it on Kamino & only seeing it a few times in Sid’s parlor before trying it out herself. The Force could be giving her subtle vibes (impressions of the future, hints from the minds of her opponents) guiding her to victory. Or she’s a fast learner.
  5. It was pointed out in my last post on the subject that Omega landed a one-in-a-million shot on Crosshair during the big escape in “Aftermath.” First time using a blaster, and she successfully disarmed a seasoned sharpshooter without causing permanent injury to his hand? And there was no “I was aiming for his head” quip after to downplay Omega’s hit. But Omega’s also become quite the sharpshooter with her Nightsister crossbow. Granted, it could just be after months of practice, since she did miss p times when she originally got the crossbow. But Omega’s best shots were the ones she didn’t overthink.

Reasons why Technically Technology Technician Bad Batch the Third Isn’t Dead

  1. Maintenance Clone 99 didn’t sacrifice himself when he died. He was shot while trying to get more ammo for Echo & Fives during the Battle of Tipoca City. It was tragic, unfair, and heartwrenching, but not a sacrifice. So naming a sacrifice plan after him makes no sense.
  2. No corpse, no proof of death. Goggles with an intact strap are not a corpse. And isn’t it weird that the goggles were on Tech’s face under his helmet, but Hemlocke just found them at the crash site with the band intact? They couldn’t just fall off his head, which means either Hemlocke removed them from Tech’s head or Tech left them as proof of death as part of his plan.
  3. No one at Disney or Star Wars will say “Tech is dead.” They’ll talk about his sacrifice, or say “he doesn’t come back this episode,” but they won’t outright say he’s dead. They keep saying “it’s complicated,” which makes no sense if he’s really dead. It’s only complicated if he’s alive.
  4. Tech would definitely sacrifice himself to save his family, and he knew his odds of surviving were slim, but he would still do everything in his power to increase his own odds of survival once he knew the others wouldn’t fall with him. It’s easier to save one than five.
  5. No clone death has ever gotten this much social media focus from the official platforms. Not Gregor, not Mayday, not even Jesse.
  6. Tech’s death is getting more “we sure miss hims” and “relive his adventures” than the deaths of Han Solo, Leia Organa, and LUKE F*CKING SKYWALKER!!!! No way Disney would spend more social media time mourning a clone from one of the spin-off animated series than the OG hero trio unless the death wasn’t real.
  7. Star Wars has always been the antithesis of nihilism & grimdark. I’m not saying it’s all sunshine & rainbows, but the core of Star Wars has always been the power of hope. Even in stories where everything goes to shit, Star Wars will always try to end on a hopeful note. And if the Bad Batch loses a member for good, there is no hope.
  8. Tech has a lot of unresolved plot threads. His relationship with Phee, finding something to do besides nerf nugget deliveries or hiding from the Empire, reconciling with Crosshair. We need closure.
  9. Disney loves the theme they composed for the Bad Batch. They love playing it when the brothers fight together. And they ONLY play it for the brothers & the end credits (sorry, Omega) We haven’t heard it in-show since the last time all five brothers were together on Kamino, and I have no doubt they’ll bring it back once more in the last season. But to do that, they need all five brothers.
  10. Tech didn’t have an “Uh Oh” arc before the season 2 finale. Echo’s rescue in Season 7 of The Clone Wars was his “Uh Oh” arc, Wrecker kept taking head trauma that led to migraines & his chip activating, Hunter got yeeted out a ship, fell into a mountain, and got shot by Cad Bane, and Crosshair has been nothing but “Uh Oh” arcs ever since Order 66. Now it’s Tech’s turn.
  11. Star Wars loves repeating patterns, and with The Bad Batch getting only three seasons it’s the perfect setup to mirror the original trilogy. Not necessarily in actions, but in emotional beats. Tech in Season 2 follows similar emotional beats as Han (complicated relationship with a smuggler, struggling with emotions, betrayed by a shifty ally, etc.), culminating with both men being cut off from their found family in a dramatic confrontation with the Empire. Leia got Han back, and I knew Omega will get Tech back.
  12. Saw’s insurgents mucked up the plan to track Hemlock’s personal ship back to Mount Tantiss to find & rescue Crosshair and the other clones. The team needed a new way to track Hemlocke, and a new infiltration plan. What better way to get behind enemy lines than to fake your death, steal a proto-Stormtrooper uniform, and pretend to be a normal soldier? Especially since Tech looks the least like a Fett clone, so if he does take off the helmet no one will recognize him.
  13. Omega coined “The Tech Turn” as the name of a certain flying technique that only Tech uses. It’s something only the two of them know. And it feels like a plant, like in Season 3 there will be a scene where Omega sees a Stormtrooper pull off The Tech Turn in a shuttle, or Omega will hijack a shuttle & someone will tell her to do The Tech Turn to get rid of some proto TIE fighters on her tail.
  14. There are a ton of Star Wars characters who have died onscreen just to show up several installments later. Maul, Ventress, Gregor, Echo, Palpatine, Boba Fett, Fennec Shand. Heck, Artoo’s died onscreen TWICE and been fixed up good as new before the end credits, and Chewie was totally blown up by the First Order until he suddenly wasn’t. So Tech returning isn’t unprecedented.
  15. Star Wars doesn’t tease. They don’t leverage the possibility of seeing certain characters to get more seasons or new movies. Young Justice does that will Wally West - they “killed” him in Season 2, and use the promise of his return to get fans coming back only to say “Whoops, no Wally this season. Guess we’ll have to be greenlit for another season in order to see if he comes back.” Star Wars doesn’t play dirty like that. Star Wars always delivers. If all of this attention is suggesting Tech is alive, then Tech will be back in season 3.
  16. Tech is the first canonically autistic Star Wars character. Star Wars won’t invoke the “bury your neurodivergents” trope. They’ve been getting better at inclusivity in recent years (mostly in writing, but there are baby steps being made in the TV shows).

Bad Batch Theory - is Omega Force-Sensitive?

I saw this theory pop up when the show debuted, but I dismissed it because it seemed silly. But on my rewatch, I can’t help wondering if Season 3 will reveal Omega has Force sensitivity.

Evidence to support Omega having Force sensitivity:

  1. The Kaminoans really want her back. It’d be one thing if Nala Se was the only one who wanted Omega because they were kind-of mother & daughter, but even the Prime Minister keeps hinting there’s something special about Omega & how she’s the key to a new generation of Clone troopers.
  2. The Force doesn’t manifest the same way in everyone. Anakin had superhuman reflexes, Ahsoka tamed a tiger with a touch & could sense when a fake Jedi was untrustworthy. Ahsoka meets a Force sensitive little girl who can move some stuff without touching it & sense when a Dark Side user is nearby. Omega is crazy good at reading people & animals (knowing Crosshair was going to betray them, feeding the dragon thing to get back the power cell, knowing who Sid was, freeing Moochi, etc.). Maybe Omega’s just naturally that perceptive, or maybe the Force is helping her. Who knows.
  3. Omega’s really good at sneaking around & getting away from Echo & Tech. Could it be the Force, years of practice sneaking away from Nala Se, or Echo & Tech being bad babysitters?
  4. Omega has similar “too good for this sinful world” vibes as baby Luke, making it easier for strangers to like her & not want to kill her. It doesn’t work on everyone, but it has helped with some situations that could’ve gone worse (Gungi, Sid, Fennec, etc.). Is it the Force, or her inherent goodness?

Evidence to disprove Omega having Force sensitivity:

  1. She’s a pure, unaltered clone of Jango Fett. With Boba MIA, she’s the only source of Fett DNA the Kaminoans can use to make more clone troopers.
  2. Jango Fett didn’t have the Force. So why would any of his clones be Force sensitive?
  3. Adding Force sensitivity to beings is tricky, to put it lightly. Cloning a Force wielder with their Force powers causes all sorts of issues in the Force, especially if the original host is still alive.
  4. In most stories where a hero has a latent power, a life threatening situation is usually enough to bring that power to life. Omega’s been in plenty of situations where being able to float or keep someone else from plummeting to their death would’ve been SUPER helpful, but there have been no surprise power-ups.

He’s going to steal everyone’s left shoe

Lmfao, I have had a Bad Batch/Lilo & Stitch AU on my mind for a month! I could totally see Echo as the Nani in this setup (due to his having the least experience looking after Omega), which I suppose slots Senator Chuchi into the role of David. Not sure how I feel about the ship, but I love the idea of Omega saying “Don’t worry. He likes your butt & fancy hair. I know. I’ve read his reports.”

Headcanon/theory time:

What if Ninety-Nine was meant to be a member of Clone Force 99??

The Kaminoans definitely played around with the accelerated aging rate of the clones, seeing as Omega was created before the Bad Batch, likely just after or around the time generation 1 and Boba were created for her to be old enough to remember the Bad Batch’s creation. This would also mean that the Bad Batch were likely created along with generation 2 for them to be mature enough for combat. Additionally, if Emerie is a Jango clone and Omega’s sister, the Kaminoans clearly gave her a dose of whatever accelerated her aging.

We know from TCW episode 03:01 “Clone Cadets” that training squads consisted of five troopers, but the Bad Batch only originally had four. There’s no real reason the Kaminoans would have deviated from Clone Force 99 having five members… unless something went wrong.

The Bad Batch still would have been functional as a squad of four if their training had been adapted to that of the commandos. I’m hesitant to say they were originally intended to train and operate as commandos, because their designations are CT-9901, 9902, 9903, and 9904 respectively, not CCs.

So, if there were supposed to be five Bad Batchers, who would CT-9905 have been?

My theory is that Ninety-Nine was originally created as part of the Bad Batch and was designated 9905, but something went wrong with the “desirable” mutation in his DNA that caused him to age far too rapidly. Upon seeing this, the Kaminoans removed him from the Bad Batch, but kept him around to see the results of their twisted experimentation. That means the rest of Clone Force 99 could still have been aware he existed, and maybe Ninety-Nine even looked out for them as he continued to rapidly age. It would also add to his desire to be a soldier like the rest of his brothers, and his strong sense of camaraderie. That would account for the Bad Batch knowing of his sacrifice when the droids attacked Kamino, and likely formulating Plan 99 in his honor.

Finally, it would make the situation even more poetic that Echo, who knew and befriended Ninety-Nine, would come to be the fifth member of the Bad Batch.

I just had a revelation about this. Obviously, the Doyleist reason why Clone Force 99 has four members when normal Clone squadrons have a minimum of 5 members is because Echo was always destined to be the 5th member. But I just figured out the Watsonian reason.

In honor of the 40th anniversary of every movie in the OG Trilogy, Disney has been publishing compilations of 40 short stories from 40 different authors who focus on the background characters in each movie, and even some people we may not even meet in the movies but were around in the galaxy during the events. In “The Empire Strikes Back: From A Certain Point of View,” we get some important lore about Rogue Squadron. Between the Battle of Yavin 4 & the Battle of Hoth, Luke was given a squad of his own & told the story of Rogue One. Luke was inspired by the many sacrifices of Jyn Erso, Cassian Andor, and the rest of the gang, and chose to name his squad Rogue Squadron in their honor. Luke was given the designation Rogue Leader, but everyone agreed that the designation Rogue One wouldn’t be used, to honor the first Rogue One, so their designations are Rogue Leader, Rogue Two, Rogue Three, etc.

I think the same thing happened with Clone Force 99. Cody & Rex had some input about the idea of making a squad of genetically altered Clones who don’t fit with the rest of the Republic Army, but they suggested having only 4 clones on the squad and leaving that fifth space open to honor Clone 99, who never even got a chance to train & fight with his brothers because of his genetic anomalies. And when Echo was saved, it felt appropriate to offer 99’s open position to the last member of Domino Squad.

Here is my idea for you, Lucasfilm: Clone Stories. A clone-centric miniseries, similar to Tales of the Jedi. There are so many good storylines to choose from!

How Wolffe got his scar. How Cut and Suu fell in love. The Delta Squad. The tattoo shop that all these clones seem to be hitting up. Boil and Numa reuniting (she wears what appears to be a sleeve of his armor in Rebels!). A day in the life of Commander Fox, helmetless Fox included of course.

After The Bad Batch ends, fans obviously still want more clone content. If they end up not doing a "Lost Commanders" series (Rex, Wolffe, & Gregor between TBB and Rebels) - which I think might be LF's next move depending on how TBB season 3 wraps up - a clone miniseries is where it's at!

Seriously, this is a GOLD MINE!!! Still pissed we can’t yet own DVDs/BLU-Rays of TCW Season 7 or The Bad Batch. We’d still stream it, and own copies for collecting, the bonus content, watching on days with WiFi, autographs, and the end of the streaming era.

I mean clearly if y'all are worried about your favourite shows getting delayed or cancelled y'all should help the Writers Guild in their strike and make life worse for all the CEOs and force them to concede to the Unions' terms. Get them fair pay faster, get your shows back faster.

And if you think otherwise, consider this:

How much milk do you think you can get if you kill the cow because the farmer wouldn't feed it?
