why not print in bangladesh? why not print in india and ship from there? there are dozens of on demand printing services in india. because this is how capitalist production under imperial relations works. poor countries in the global south are only good for providing raw material for dirt cheap. the real value add, the finishing touch has to happen in the western world, which will pocket the largest share because its perceived as the "sophisticated" part of production. imperial profits then get distributed to the western world, so even the working class in europe now is complicit in the exploitation of the global south.

I yearn for a solarpunk degrowthed eco-socialist future where ads as a concept are just gone – gone from the landscape and gone from our collective psyche.
And just to clarify, in case I get bad faith interpretation: I don't have a problem with a world where there are bulletin board "advertisements" letting people know about events, new stuff, general social announcements, etc; and that also applies to maybe even magazines and websites and the like where the "ads" are relevant. What I object to is an economic infrastructure where capitalists are required to endlessly accumulate capital and thus endlessly market their products to the point that escape becomes impossible. So much labor, time, and energy is wasted on ads; they are literal noise pollution and make our lives more hollow, monetized, and spiritually-impoverished. For fuck's sake, marketers are even trying to extend ads into the night sky with actual drone-based light shows.
This needs to end.
To reiterate, we might always need something analogous to ads so long as we live in a complex global society. But their function needs to change to be about actual information dissemination, divorced from capitalist profit accumulation. They shouldn't be bombarding us wherever we go. So much space we currently use for ads should instead be used for art and things which actually improve our lives.

LAPD detonated 5000 lbs of fireworks in the middle of a residential area, injuring at least 17 people and causing $900 million in various damages in a low-income, majority-POC neighborhood.
They then continue to pursue caging the person whose fireworks they stole while news media misreports to cover for police incompetency and destruction.
