health tips for ppl with periods

okay so I know I’ve been advertising health tips for students but this one is specifically motivation for ppl who menstruate!! I honestly had no idea how MUCH making a few simple changes to my lifestyle made my load not only lighter but I have yet to experience period cramps and I’m three days in.

advice:

  1.  have one meal a day be a MASSIVE salad!! In mine I include mixed leafy greens, usually ethically caught tuna, tomatoes, carrots, avocado or a healthy source of fat and here’s what truly helped my gut DRIZZLING IT WITH A SQUEEZE OF LEMON AND SOME APPLE CIDER VINEGAR!! (honestly it’s crazy how much this has helped my skin, bloating and really everything)
  2. Drink ya damn water!!! Since I started drinking warm water with every meal and heaps in between! My cramps! HAVE PRACTICALLY GONE!!!!!
  3. Vitamin C girl! I actually started making ‘juice’ with a third of a grapefruit, half an orange, one kiwi fruit and half a lemon all in a food processor or blender with some ice and water and this has helped my energy levels, fought off a cold, protected me from legit all my sick friends AND HELPED WITH MY PERIOD!
  4. NO PROCESSED SUGAR IN THE LEAD UP TO YOUR PERIOD!!! I see you with your mars bar!! put the mars bar down and get some fruit! I get the temptation but honestly, your body will be thanking you for this one. Avoid processed foods as well and keep it simple, trust me, you won’t regret it.
  5. EXERCISE WHILE ON YOUR PERIOD honestly helps so much, I know you don’t feel like it, I know you just want to stay curled up with a heat pack but this will help. Try it out, doesn’t have to be anything intense, just get yourself moving for a little bit!

and that’s all i’ve been doing but I’ve gone from having really heavy loads and doubled over in pain for a week a month do being able to function somewhat normally! (p.s. I am not a medical practitioner or an expert and this is just the stuff I’ve figured out works for me. No guarantees it will work for everyone but, i mean, it’s worth a shot!)

This isn’t just advice for uni students, but for anybody, I’ve just decided to tackle us uni students in general, because our days are not as structured anymore and with our lectures here at 11AM on one day and at 3PM on the other, it’s very hard to keep each and every day the same. Generally, though, this can be used for anybody who’s looking for some structure in their life.

 Why?

Because it gives you an idea of what you are spending your time on. With a solid and good schedule, there should be less time for procrastination. Besides that, a sense of control gives many people comfort, especially people who struggle mentally.

Where to start:

  1. Write down your schedule. Work, weekly appointments, lectures, classes. All those things that are ‘set in stone’ and that you cannot control. This is going to be the base you build around. I suggest making a table, preferably on a piece of paper (you can transfer it into a digital version when you’re done and have everything figured out) with all days of the week and hours. I personally used 7AM – 11PM.
  2. Set your wake up and bed times. The most important ones. You should make these all the same. Maybe give yourself an extra hour of a lie in on Saturday and Sunday, but you should try and not confuse your biological clock too much. Soon, it will become easier to get up early. Also make sure you are getting enough hours of sleep. As a young adult of around 20, you should be getting 6-9 hours of sleep. If you are younger, it should be more than that.
  3. Write up your daily tasks that you would like to perform every day. Make sure you include all those things you keep forgetting, self-care items, daily reading, journal writing, studying, etc. Be realistic, however. Start out small with just a few things, don’t overwhelm yourself and later, you can start adding more items.
  4. Then do the same for weekly tasks. These include doing readings for particular classes, clean ups, exercise, meet-ups, etc.
  5. Don’t forget meals! Especially if you are busy, make sure there is room for food in your plan! Make sure that if you have an especially full day the next day, think of some time to prepare the food the night before. Planning out your meals may also make you think about what you eat more. (Also, I can write something about nutrition on request!)
  6. Don’t forget free time either. Free time is important and a free day is something you could benefit from. Whether it is resting or catching up on your studies or time for arts and crafts.
  7. Now play a nice game of Tetris and assign a time slot to each of those activities. Don’t forget to just leave some time off. Whether that’s for finishing a task, being lazy or just anything. Use your routine to give your life a structure, not govern  it completely.

How to implement these and make sure they work?

There are for sure going to be some you struggle with. Set phone alarms. Set them for every five minutes. Set them until they annoy you. Until it’s so annoying it makes you do the task you don’t want to do.

I followed these steps to make my own routine for my new semester and I had something similar, but not as elaborate last semester. The one for this semester isn’t done yet since I still need one additional module and my fixed working times. But after that, I may post my routine on here and then some follow ups as well, just to see how well it’s going. Same goes for you, tag me (ravenclawhard) if you are going to use these tips. I’d love to know!

The houses as things my sister has muttered to herself at work

Gryffindor: *hears distant crash* shit. Now I have to do stuff.
Slytherin: *taking deep breaths* people would be more polite if they knew I had a 5 step plan to dispose of their corpse.
Ravenclaw: *in a moment of stress* flying spaghetti monster, give me strength.
Hufflepuff: *inspecting a task she has just completed* Nice Job! *high fives self*

Stiles: You have no idea what I’m capable of!!
Derek: Don’t take it personally, but I feel like I’m being threatened by a cupcake

Picture this:

It is the day of your graduation. Finally, all those years of studying, reading, writing and staying up late preparing for tests and exams are over. Soon, you’ll be heading out into the real world- maybe you have a job lined up, or plan to look for one. Maybe an internship, or more study, or some other unexpected but equally wonderful path. You have done well academically, even if you lost motivation at times or messed up a few papers. As you get called onto the stage you stand in your shiny robe and look out into the audience to see the proud faces of your loved ones. You smile. All that time and effort had paid off, it was all worth it.

Still want to give up?

Ravenclaw: I’m cold.
Gryffindor: Here, have my jacket.
Hufflepuff: Hey, I’m cold too.
Slytherin: What?! *takes off jacket* I fucking told you to bring more fucking layers but of course you didn’t listen and now *piles scarves on Hufflepuff* I fucking have to makes sure you don’t fucking FREEZE TO DEATH, but you’re allergic to sweaters, so what the fuck did I expect, and *takes somebody else’s hat* how fucking long have you been cold? You should’ve said something sooner.

Your Life is Happening Now

So about a year ago my philosophy teacher said something that has really stuck with me.

“When I was your age I couldn’t wait to grow up,” he said. “All throughout high school I was waiting for my life to start. I used to tell myself once I got a car then my life would begin. And then I did, and it didn’t. ‘Okay,’ I thought, 'When I get to university then my life will really start.’ But then I got there and it wasn’t much different, until a few years later it hit me: oh shit, my life is happening now.”’

That’s something I’ve tried to keep with me, because it’s so easy to forget. I’m sure many of us do. I am guilty of thinking in a few years, once I’m settled down and can afford things, my life will begin. Or when I get my license, or a move out. I’m guilty of cancelling time with the people that matter to me because I’m planning for that day in the future when 'I can do stuff’. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with working towards a goal and being disciplined but it’s so important to remember that you shouldn’t fantasize about the ideal you and a time when your life can finally begin without working towards it. Your life is happening now.

Hey quick question do people actually wear jeans indoors at home? Like, as a casual thing to wear? As in you don’t plan on going out or anything you just put jeans on.

Hufflepuff: Fake ones. It’s going to be awesome
Slytherin: Dead people that We just murdered
