This is so fascinating to me. This is a homeless encampment on private property, and usually the argument is that βwell they donβt have a right to be there, so we have to remove themβ. But apparently the property owner actually resists attempts to remove the homeless presence on their propertyβ¦ so the narrative shifts to βwell, itβs dangerous for the community and for the homeless for this encampment to existβ.
Note that they do not offer alternative places to go for the homeless people currently living on - let me state again - a private property that the property owner seems entirely happy for them to live in and resists attempts to remove them. They just shouldnβt be there, according to the mayor.
How are they dangerous to the community again? Lack of sanitation, mental health concerns, drug abuse? Are you planning to do anything to address those problems or just get rid of the human evidence of those problems? Certainly itβs dangerous for the people living in tents and makeshift structures in an encampmentβ¦ but itβs a lot more dangerous for them to live alone on the street without any kind of community, and no one is concerned about that when they break up a homeless encampment.
People will do anything to fix the homelessness problem in their cities except for actually helping the people affected by it.
Sanctuary Supply Depot is a Minneapolis mutual aid org dedicated to supporting the unhoused, they've got a drive on right now for the people affected in this incident.

Reminder they want to increase the budget for ICE from 3.5 to 45 billion dollars.
Reminder the majority of that will be for building new detention centers.
Reminder ICE are *currently* detaining tourists who can pay for a plane ticket home and people with visa issues that were already resolved, because they have to make quota so Trump can brag about the numbers going up.
Reminder most of these people were already in the immigration system - that's why they were easy to detain.
Reminder this is all at taxpayer expense.

Pet RFID chips are so small that there's really only room on them for a serial number. When your lost pet is brought to a shelter or a vet's office, they can scan the chip, read that number, and then type it into a program that draws from a series of linked databases to find your name and phone number. That's how they find you, and tell you that Silly Lilly von Wigglesbottom has gone wandering, and she's safe and sound, and would you come get her, please?
Texas-based Save This Life, which provided chips to vets and shelters all across the US, has all at once and abruptly gone dark; their database is just gone. Their customers were not given warning and so did not know to change their registration to another company. A lot of animals have basically become anonymous now.
If you don't know what company you've been using, call your vet's office and ask what pet chip number they have on file. If the chip number starts with 991 or 900164, it's probably a Safe This Life chip.
If it turns out yours is one of the affected cases, the chip itself will still be fine! There's no need to add another, or anything like that. You'll just need to transfer the number to another company, and your vet should be able to recommend the one that they like the best.

no getting up. no looking at the flag.
everyone will be looking at you. you'll be sweating like a fucking hippopotamus. your teacher will sternly tell you to get up. you'll feel stupid and that maybe its not worth it because you're just a kid in a classroom. but I'm here to remind you that there are no real life consequences to detention. there are however real life consequences to resisting a thoughtless performance of nationalism.
not to talk tough but i have sat through every pledge of allegiance in my life, and that includes the bush administration's hyper-patriotic war on terror.
you can NOT be compelled to say the pledge, and that also means you can't be given the 'choice' of doing it or taking a punishment. being sent into the hall is a grey area.
if you are punishing for refusing, parents or a more sympathetic teacher (like say a history or english teacher) can step in to intercede with the principal. do not be afraid to escalate.
it is critical now of all times that you PRACTICE civil disobedience, starting small, sticking to it, and working up, this will help you learn how very much disobedience you can actually get away with in this life, which is actually a hell of a lot.
