I cannot put into words how much I Fucking Loathe the fact that when you search something on youtube now it will randomly intersperse blocks of "people also watched" and "for you" into the results. That's not what I searched for, youtube. I typed in a search query because I wanted to see search results, not random unrelated garbage you have placed in my way apparently to either inconvenience me or force me to scroll further for actual results. I despise your wretched little games and every time I see it I can only instantly close the tab as I am overcome with the urge to burn something down.

"I despise your wretched little games" perfectly conveys how I feel about the entire algorithm/attention economy

They also refuse to actually show the parameters you searched for. If you sort by โ€œupload date,โ€ the first few videos might be more recent ones by upload date, but anything past that youโ€™ll find a video that was uploaded five years ago, then five months ago, then three years ago, etc, whichโ€”NO! Thatโ€™s NOT WHAT I ASKED FOR!! PUT THEM IN ORDER!!!

Also sometimes the โ€œpeople also watchedโ€ bullcrap will not only be entirely unrelated, it will also be videos with violent, sometimes outright triggering thumbnails. Iโ€™ve gotten some AWFUL unrelated video thumbnails just when searching for video game music videos.

Firefox once again cleaning up after the whole corporate internet

I think one of the most profound forms of love is "I'll try that, for you. I may not like it, but I'll try it."

It's a confused middle-aged man in a pottery class, whose daughter is helping him with his clay's plasticity. It's a kid scrunching up their brow while listening to their mom's favorite music, trying to figure out why she likes it. It's a girlfriend who says "Yes, I'll go with you" and her girlfriend cheering and buying a second ticket for a con. It's a friend half dragging another friend through an aquarium, the one being dragged laughing and calling out "Wait, wait, I know we're here for the exhibit, but I haven't been here! Slow down!"

It's being willing to spend some of your time trying something new because it makes someone you love happy.

Y'all can keep at it with that โ€œRomeo and Juliet fell in love in five days how immatureโ€ shiz but Macbeth went from no murder to yes murder in like one afternoon and I feel like one of those is a significantly bigger problem than the other

The same guy who wrote Fireflies. This is the same guy

After being a fan for decade I can confirm that this is just what his social media is. Dude made a song for a rabbit he saw outside. Dude posted about a set of metal measuring cups that sound good when he clanks them together. You donโ€™t want to know what he tweeted when he was on ambien

no actually I do want to know about his ambienposting

Transcript: It reminds me of the โ€œbike to workโ€ movement. That is also portrayed as white, but in my city more than half of the people on bike are not white. I was once talking to a white activist who was photographic โ€œbike commutersโ€ and had only pictures of white people with the occasional โ€œBlack professionalโ€ I asked her why she didnโ€™t photograph the delivery people, construction workers etcโ€ฆ id. the Black and [Latine] and Asian peopleโ€ฆ and she mumbled something about trying to โ€œimprove the image of bikingโ€ then admitted that she didnโ€™t really see them as part of the โ€œgreen movementโ€ since they โ€œprobably have no choiceโ€ - I was so mad I wanted to quit working on the project she and I were collaborating on. So, in the same way when people in a poor neighborhood grow food in their yardsโ€ฆ itโ€™s just being poor- but when white people do it they are saving the earth or something.โ€œ -comment left on the Racialious blog post โ€œSustainable Food and Privilege: Why is Green always White (and Male and Upper-Class) (via meggannn). This is like the best admission I've ever heard that prison sentences are about fucked up torture rather than keeping dangerous people out of society.

iโ€™ve been thinking about this video nonstop since the first time i saw it

the jaunty walk perfectly in time with the music. the tip of the hat the unaware or uncaring bystanders. the shaky camera with random zooming. the fact that this is seemingly happening in a park. this is peak media i canโ€™t get over it

thinking about that kakapo egg that got crushed but the conservation team patched it up and it survived

For those who donโ€™t follow kakapo conservation, they are critically endangered parrots who only breed on years where the rimu tree they rely on meet a certain threshold of fruit production. One breeding season in 4 years can be typical, and about half of all eggs laid by kakapo are infertile (they still arenโ€™t completely certain why, it could be a recent population bottleneck) so each fertile egg is worth its weight in gold.

This was one of only 5 fertile eggs laid on the Whenua Hou island population in the 2014 breeding season and it got crushed by its mother on accident. It was mended with glue and tape and incubated by the rangers until hatching.

At 150 days old kakapo chicks are officially added to the population total and given a unique name, until then they are given their motherโ€™s name and a number for birth order laid in the clutch. This chick was known as Lisa-one before officially being given the name Ruapuke by local indigenous Ngai Tahu people. Here he is grown up:

Itโ€™s sad when a species is so rare we know them all individually but at the same time I love that you can point at this one bird and say oh thatโ€™s Ruapuke, his mom sat on him too hard

if Candice has a picture phone why did she never just take a photo of what phineas and ferb were doing and text it to her mom

if she did this doofenshmirtz would just be like you see perry the platypus i sold my old computer at the pawn shop but i forgot to delete all those embarrassing photos from the christmas party, which is why iโ€™ve invented the pixel-replacinator! and then as candace is going to text her mom the photo the phone gets hit with the beam and she looks down and sheโ€™s just texted her mom a photo of doofenshmirtz in a sexy elf costume or smth. candace can never fucking win the universe bends to facilitate her psychological torment

I was at the coffeeshop in the village and someone asked me how my llamas are doing, and a woman overheard and told me that when she was a kid, her parents used to have a couple of llamas in their sheep farm, and every single sheep in their flock imprinted on one of the two llamas. Each sheep chose the best most charismatic llama according to mysterious sheep criteria, and never wavered in their ovine loyalty. Each of the two llamas was worshiped by a small sub-flock of devoted sheep who followed him everywhere like Jesusโ€™s apostles and only left their field for transhumance when led byย โ€œtheirโ€ llama. The funniest thing is the way this woman overheard the wordย โ€œllamaโ€ and immediately came to sit next to me to tell me this, like she had waited since childhood to share her bewilderment about the two religious congregations of sheep led by rival llama prophets in her family farm.

Iโ€™d have trouble keeping that in myself.
