So much of this worldly experience is out of our hands but we can choose to be generous w our love and curious abt life and find pleasure and amusement and refuge in the patterns of our every day and support each other and care for our world and meet even those we don’t know w grace and patience and consideration and that these little qualities are in our control is not to be forgotten

This young lady is turning 18 years old! 😾 This makes Naia the oldest living black-footed cat in the U.S. population, and possibly the oldest in the world! She is, however, shy of being the oldest recorded BFC by 6 months. So here is to good health Naia!

i think we should talk about degendering more as a very real form of transphobia. you should not be calling a trans woman "they" when she's explained her pronouns to you. you should not be calling her a "person" instead of a woman. she's not too gnc, she's not too androgynous, you're not "confused" about her identity, you're degendering her. I fear we've gotten to a point we've forgotten the very basics of this movement is "trans women are women" and "trans men are men", and not just "trans people are someone who's pronouns you have to memorize so you don't offend them." you see her as a man in a dress and it pisses me off

found this on reddit thought id post it here too 👍

I think this explains a lot of trans discourse on here, too. Well, a lot of queer culture generally. Realizing you’re personally trans doesn’t mean all the dumb gender stuff you were raised with goes “poof” and vanishes from your mind. Until you put in the work, you’ve still got all the old crap in there, it just has a big “but trans!” sticker slapped on it.

my "I'm with the boomers on this one" take is that I should not need an app to park my fucking car. increasingly when I'm out and about and need to use public parking, the only option is an app. no. no. give me a meter I can plug the loose change from the bottom of my purse into. worst comes to absolute worst give me a machine to insert my credit card which prints a receipt for the dashboard of my car (I don't like those either but at least they are on site). "to pay for parking, download our app!" why don't you download my ass

I live in Chicagoland and have family friends who are brown and undocumented. It’s not good here.

I want to specify that the US government ICE agents rapelled from Blackhawk helicopters to take over an apartment building, breaking open apartment doors in the middle of the night to drag barely-clad residents from their homes and detain everyone in UHaul trucks with the children zip-tied to each other. Regardless of citizenship.

There was too much traffic today, and an ICE agent deployed a tear gas canister in traffic in response.

This is not normal.

From the very bottom of my heart: what the ACTUAL FUCK

It’s not even near me yet, but where I live there’s lots of brown folks so they’ll come.

This is surreal. We’re being attacked by the United States.

Most mainstream media is barely covering it.

I genuinely wish I were surprised by that.

‘F--- them kids’: ICE agents drag children out of bed, ransack Chicago building.

From the various accounts I've read/viewed, ICE and the FBI dragged residents out of their homes at 2am whether citizens or not and detained them for hours in vans. They even dragged out children, some naked, and zip tied them together. They ransacked and vandalised apartments, stole belongings, and may have urinated in some areas.

Many residents have now abandoned the building.

And the so-called excuse for this is the targetting of Venezuelan gang members, but the reality is that this is nothing but the ongoing racist terrorism by so-called law enforcement.

South Shore is a predominantly Black neighborhood: 92.6% Black, with Latinos making up just 2.6%.

Why would a Venezuelan gang that is apparently virtually unknown in all of Chicago be there?

And some people are still trying to normalise this.

And shouldn't Budget and U-Haul be held to account for their role?

A residents account (mostly from the video):

Residents describe a scene that looked more like a war zone than a law enforcement operation. Flash bangs echoed through the streets. “They [community] was terrified. The kids was crying. People were screaming. They looked very distressed. I was out there crying when I seen the little girl come around the corner, because they was bringing the kids out too, had them zip tied to each other,” Ebony Watson told a local reporter. “That’s all I kept asking. Where’s the morality? Where’s the human[ity]? One of them literally laughed. He was standing right here. He said: F–k them kids,” Watson added. When residents returned after the chaos, they found apartments ransacked—walls damaged, furniture smashed, and windows broken. The damage wasn’t just physical. Families say the terror of being treated like enemy combatants in their own homes will linger far longer. “They just treated us like we were nothing,” Patricia Fisher said. “It was scary, because I’ve never had a gun put in my face. They asked my name and my date of birth and asked me, did I have any warrants. And I told them, No, I didn’t.” Fisher, an elderly Black woman, recalled being handcuffed and detained despite having committed no crime. She said she wasn’t released until 3 a.m. “Like they had it planned out for weeks. It was like a movie. I got it recorded on my phone and everything. It was like a movie. It was, it was really scary. They had my boyfriend locked up,” Marlee Sanders told CBS news.“He’s black. Yeah, he’s a citizen,” Sanders added. ICE later confirmed 37 arrests. But when pressed on who was actually targeted and why, the Department of Homeland Security pointed to the ongoing government shutdown as an excuse for withholding details.

honestly i have huge amounts of respect for greta thunberg for refusing to settle in for the lucrative career that was obviously being prepared for her as a toothless liberal icon

reading this as someone who does cross stitch but is scared of the other kinds of embroidery is like overhearing an incredibly tall and buff person say they have beef with Mr. Tom, the kitten that chills at the bookstore

FUCK Mr. Tom and his stupid little fluffy tail ok. And his little charted designs.

Okay, but this neglects the true villain of embroidery stitches: the French knot

Don't you dare malign my girl again

Ok the french knot is very useful but it is a BITCH to do it consistently

We talk about how this website’s hate mail game is insane, but this might just be a new level

This is my friend, Jas! She is beloved on the island I have called home for years now, as a compassionate, outspoken, kind, and indomitable member of our community. Tonight her ship carrying humanitiarian aid to Gaza was intercepted, and she and her crew have been detained by the IOF. Watching this, listening to these words in her voice, does not feel real.

If you are in the U.S. please contact your representatives now and demand the safe release of Jasmine Sau Mun Ikeda, the release of her crew and all humanitarian aid workers, the release of aid to the people of Gaza, and a ceasefire NOW!

Closed captions added by me. Video Transcript is under the cut:

Jas was on the vessel Sirius. Do you see your nation among its crew? Contact your government and demand their safe release and the release of humanitarian aid to Gaza.

All vessels in this flotilla attempting to deliver humanitarian aid were intercepted as of yesterday. The Sirius is not the only one.

Many people of many countries are currently being detained. Find out if yours is among them! Contact your governments!

The calls are making a difference! Leaders have begun to make public statements against the genocide and demanding the release of humanitarian workers! Keep going! Do not stop!

music is dying because every song has to be about the songwriter now. songwriters used to write about a book they read or a person they saw or a piece of history they know. you think you're interesting enough for all them songs?
