@larlinthedragon

Hello, I am Kari and I want to share with the world, my favorite anime “Black Lagoon”and many of my other interests. Welcome followers and enjoy your time on my blog! Age-27 Bisexual
Genderfluid she/her/him/his

The whole "breasts shouldn't be politicized because the primary purpose of breasts is to feed babies!" can be a fine jumping-off point, but I really wish people thought deeper than that when we talk about the ways in which bodies are politicized and restricted.

Like, why's it that when we talk about breasts, they must have some Higher Purpose? It's true that breasts aren't inherently sexual, but they aren't valuable solely because they can potentially feed a baby. A human body doesn't have to serve a Higher Purpose in order for it to not be legislated against or policed, and I just wish people would remember it isn't always about babies, about other people, about anything else other than the people who have that body.

It's midnight here, so happy disability pride month to my fellow disableds, the chronically ill, and also to the temporarily abled.

If your activism doesn't include disability, you're sure as fuck going to wish it did.

Nothing about us without us ♿👊

As we are, so you will be. All health and ability is temporary.

Hooray! Yay! Dykes!

I'm not seeing any naked adults in that screenshot...

...There's something deeply messed up about how breasts, which are used by our species to feed babies, are considered to be so perverse and obscene that a child should never see them.

There aren't any naked people in the entire video clip. There's some people that you'd probably see less of their skin on a beach, but only because on a beach they'd probably be wearing a bikini top as well as whatever else they have on. And this is New York City, where toplessness is legal regardless of gender or assigned sex.

Avatar

Toplessness for breasts is legal in most places in the US, unlegislated in almost all that remain, and only illegal in two states: Ohio and Tennessee.

This is because topless equality has been a basic push from feminists for literally decades, until Radfems and NeoCons bonded over wanting a trans genocide less than a decade ago.

It's literally why the "no tits on tumblr" and other lesser SESTA/FOSTA consequences* like it were so jarring. It set back FORTY. YEARS. OF PROGRESS in the rights of people with breasts or perceived as women to wear the same clothes as people without.

Do not let conservatives lie to you about this. The majority of people in the us and the VAST majority of States recognize the right of people to not wear a damn shirt. It isn't obscenity, it isn't even nudity, it's just something pericis men are allowed that everyone else isn't.

Y'know.

Basic sexual discrimination.

*Y'all aren't still on that "it was the Apple app store that caused the tit ban" shit, right? It was the literal US federal government. To be fucking clear.

Damn it Ohio! I wanna be topless when its hot outside, and not get arrested for public indecency.

If sexual activity between same-gender people became illegal, the police would be the ones enforcing those laws.

That's why police are not welcome at Pride. Pride is for unconditional supporters, not for those who would become enemies as soon as they're ordered to.

I feel it's important to amend this with "if sexual activity between same-gender people became illegal AGAIN, the police would be the ones enforcing those laws AGAIN."

They did it before and they'll do it again. Gay sex was only made legal in Texas in 2003. I was at a sleepover at my best friend's house when it happened. We could hear the celebrations from the bar district down the block. We were 14 and both knew we were queer.

So yes, they're not welcome at pride because they'll turn on us in an instant. But also because cops who have been cops for a while full-on were against us only NINETEEN years ago.

And yes I know that's just in Texas and other states have different histories but I'm not even that old and I remember when being gay was illegal. When any relationship I dreamed of having was illegal. And THAT is my bigger reason that cops aren't welcome at pride. Yes they will turn on us, but they already were against us and not-so-secretly still are.

Cops used to raid gay bars round up drag queens and butch lesbians and gay men dressed too femininely, beat them and s*xually assault them in the jails.

And there was no legal recourse. Because it was illegal to be gay. It was illegal to wear clothes that didn’t correspond with your biological sex. Police were well within their rights to arrest them and once they got them behind closed doors they could do whatever they wanted. Who were they going to believe? The heroic police or the weird queer criminals?

That is why cops aren’t welcome at pride.

it’s horrific. awful way to die. either you’re trapped with no chance of being found, air running out, everyone around you suffocating, or the hull is broken and you get turned to jelly by the crushing ocean depths. ik they’re billionaires so it’s very contentious for me. generally i prefer no one dies horrifically. like just as a fellow human being on earth. but i dont think the ultra rich ever extend that mindset to others. climate refugees. and just everything. it feels like something a greek god would do to punish them. it has a certain swagful je ne sais quoi if removed from the human suffering which billionaires have to do philosophically to maintain their positions. very haunting. the hubris of it all. old jalopy metal tube steered by a mad catz controller. to go look at the titanic. which is nothing but a rusted out metal wreck full of fish and silt. btw. the grandiosity of it is completely unrecognizable. one has to wonder what compels ppl to even look at it in the first place. like the prestige of seeing some filthy grown over shell? crazy thing to die for. very textually rich… bad way to die as a human being. great way to die as a narrative about human greed and folly i guess. good job. mission accomplished?

and here i was, thinking tumblr became the new twitter

i know there is this common mindset, that all rich people are assholes, but for gods sake, they are still human. so thank you person who reblogged this with the tags. you restored my faith in humanity at least a little bit on this hell site.

I'm really enjoying the memes we're getting, like I hope you reddit refugees enjoy your time here. It absolutely sucks that you're going through this. I will miss the questions for niche subjects that reddit has but hopefully the CEO eats shit and falls down 20 flights of stairs and reddit becomes reddit again.

But until then I hope you guys enjoy your time here and celebrate our weird little holidays on this hellsite (affectionate)

Friendly reminder that the leather flag predates almost every other flag. We owe this community to leather daddies and kinksters

In the era of corporate sanitization never forget it was leather daddies and S&M folks who protected some of the earliest pride parades.

The leather flag is the 2nd oldest Pride flag.

Anonymous asked:

How do you think people should mark Juneteenth?

As a white person, I think that the best way to mark Juneteenth is to 1) educate ourselves, and 2) to uplift Black voices.

Education Resources:

13th is an award winning documentary about the 13th Amendment and the history of modern American slavery. I think that it should be required viewing for everyone living in this country. You can watch it on Netflix.

Slavery by Another Name is a book that covers essentially the same material as 13th, in case documentaries aren't your thing. It also has a film adaptation that is available for free online.

Redemption: The Last Battle of the Civil War is a book about the exact way in which the process of Reconstruction and racial equality failed following the Civil War. I think it's an incredibly valuable tool for understanding how the foundation for events detailed in 13th and Slavery by Another Name was laid.

I am Not Your Negro is a documentary based on the works of James Baldwin, centered around his experiences of being a Black gay man in the US during the 1950s through the 1980s.

Uplifting/Supporting Black Voices Resources:

The Innocence Project recognizes that Black people are incarcerated at a higher rate than white people, and that many of these are wrongful convictions. They are also working to reform the criminal justice system. You can donate and/or get involved here.

The Prisoner Correspondence Project works to connect incarcerated LGBTQ+ people in the US and Canada with with pen pals outside of prison. I personally have a pen pal that I met through them, and we've been writing to each other for almost 3 years. It's one of the single most meaningful things I've ever done with my life. You can make a donation here and apply for a pen pal here.

The Southern Poverty Law Center works to be a catalyst for racial justice in the American South (as well as the rest of the country). They fight systems of white supremacy and promote intersectionality. You can find ways to support them here.

***

Finally, perhaps the single most important thing you can do is listen to the Black people in your life. No group is a monolith, and everyone will have different viewpoints and experiences. Keep your heart and your ears open, especially when it's difficult.

reblog if your name isn't Amanda.

2,121,566 people are not Amanda and counting!

We’ll find you Amanda.

this has almost 11 million notes what is this

I’ve never seen this post once in 10 years on this site

I’ve never even heard of this before tho??? Wtf??????????

oh my god, I didn’t think there were any surviving versions of this post left

For those who weren’t around in the Deep Lore times, this is one of the relics of the editable post era. This post has THE SINGLE HIGHEST NOTES of ANY post on this site, bar none, but with more than a dozen variations. Every single post you’ve ever seen with more than 3 million notes has been a different version of this one.

This is the “Dean’s Gym Shorts” post. This is the Flubber post. This is the original “Reblog if you support gay people” post. it was ALL of them. before half the site got nuked, it had even more notes than it has now - at one point, well over 15 million, and that was years ago.

This, with no exaggeration, is the ONE TRUE heritage post

This website truly is bizarre

I'm gonna lay all of this out right now so it is on the record, and I probably should have done this last week when I actually saw that Ch115 of Black Lagoon was out (and that apparently all of the previously untranslated ones had been translated officially on Viz in like March??? Is the series ending or are they just doing this for everything?) but hear me out:

Can I watch a great film knowing the actresses in it were terrorized and mistreated the entire time? Can I watch a football game knowing that the players are getting brain injuries right before my eyes? Can I listen to my favorite albums anymore knowing that the singers were all beating their wives in between studio sessions? Can I eat at the new fancy taco place knowing when the building that used to be there got bulldozed eight families got kicked out of their homes so they could be replaced with condos and a chain restaurant? Can I wear the affordable clothes I bought downtown that were probably assembled in a sweatshop with child labor? Can I eat quinoa? Can I eat this burger? Can I drink this bottled water? Can I buy a car and drive to work because I’m sick of taking an hour each way on the subway? Whose bones do I stand on? Whose bones am I standing on right now?

On one hand, it’s a privilege to be able to choose to acknowledge these horrors or not–we’re going to acknowledge that privilege. On the other hand, I once attended a lecture by the explorerer-conservationist Jacques-Yves Cousteau’s daughter and son and they had a lot of opinions about what we could do to help the environment and the ocean and I talked about how in my country, we have to drink bottled water, because it’s a desert and there’s only salt water all around, but we’re contributing to pollution and all of these things…

And she looked at me and told me not to fall into the trap of “activist guilt.” I couldn’t remember the exact words, but, it was the first time I’d heard the term and it took a weight off my shoulders.

We do what we can. It’s so much better than giving up entirely or not doing anything at all because we can’t do it perfectly. It doesn’t benefit anyone in the end if we just sit around feeling guilty about every little thing in life. I’d just joined tumblr back then (haha, so like, eight or nine years ago at this point?), I was being exposed to way more than I’d ever been before (I was previously just into feminism and animal rights/wildlife conservation/environmentalism since I was a kid), and it was weighing on me.

As long as humans are humans and living flawed lives, many consumed by greed, there will not be anything in this world untouched by evil.

I usually avoid stuff that says it was made in China or other cheap looking knockoffs, out of fear of them being made in sweatshops (now, I know even a lot of big brands use those…), it’s exhausting. Then, I read something about how people who actually lived and worked in those would still buy this cheap stuff and how this shocked the foreigner reporting on it, but they just looked confused like, it’s what they can afford and them avoiding consuming it isn’t going to change the whole system from the ground-up.

… it went on about how “money talks” and choosing where to put your money still feeds the whole capitalist system and is nearly a way of comforting yourself, but you not buying doesn’t mean everyone else isn’t. What needs to be tackled is at a much higher level than any of us can reach.

Of course, I’d still, given the choice, give my money to companies I agree with and I’ll boycott what I know to support awful stuff, but I also feel no superiority over this and know now it’s not as black and white or easy as I thought it was.

This is the same reason that moral purity “you can’t enjoy [x] because it’s Problematic ™” is such nonsense, because nothing is pure. There’s something bad about everything if you dig deep enough. As long as we lived in flawed human societies we’ve got to make the best of what they offer us. If you have the choice and means, please, do support those who do good, but also, don’t beat yourself up over not living up to an unattainable ideal.

No one can. You’ll just make yourself so miserable, you either burn up and stop fighting entirely or you’ll make yourself a non-productive, depressed heap just out of a bleeding heart left unchecked. You can’t make a change to this world if you refuse to engage in it.

Purity is one of the worst, most harmful myths humans ever invented.

Rebloging for this amazing reply telling us how to actually handle this, because yeah, sometimes I’ll simply shut down trying to find something that doesn’t cause harm to anyone

I think that we should stop criminalizing pirating and I wish the government would give everyone $50,000 every month no matter what and I think that people should stop treating sex workers like they're scum of the earth and I wish that we all cared a little more about artists and musicians and dancers and writers and I think we should stop acting like gender and sexuality is the same for everybody and I think we should all steal a little more

in conversation about white people who go to Japan and expect their knowledge of anime to culturally carry them, I was once posed with “it’s like if there was a Japanese guy who was obsessed with spongebob and came over here and thought he could get by just communicating in spongebob quotes.” This is a false equivalence because if such a man existed we would crown him king. We’d love him. Americans would fucking love that. sometimes I get sad that this isn’t a real guy I can invite to a party.

As a bisexual person I'm keenly aware of how such stereotypes are inevitably harmful to us, but unfortunately when I see bisexuals in fiction who are Evil and stylish and fuck like champions I can't help but go "oh work" for a sec. It's a difficult conundrum

This is why ppl taking meds need to check the ingredients on tea.

Willow bark has similar (albeit milder) effects as Aspirin. Willow bark has salicylates which reduce inflammation and related pain, but also act as blood thinners. If you're taking blood thinners, other NSAIDs and other meds that would normally interact with aspirin, you shouldn't be taking Willow bark.

Nettle is a great nerve tonic and while often used in later pregnancy, has been known to have the potential to cause miscarriage in the first trimester. It also has the potential to interact with some medications such as diabetes medications, blood thinners, and antihypertensives.

It bothers me that teas like this are just in the regular tea section with no other warning on them despite having the potential to cause issues for people. I've also seen teas with St. John's Wort; Valerian is common; and NO warnings on them.

Please always check med interactions. It could be nothing, but it could be something. I had a crazy interaction affecting my heart when I drank half a bottle of coke on Wellbutrin because of the caffeine. PLEASE BE CAREFUL

Vervain (aka verbena) also has some drug interactions with medications that are broken down by the liver.

today my wisdom is: the ecological crisis of our planet is not a thing that will Suddenly destroy us sometime in the next century—it has taken decades of continuous work for our biosphere to be preserved thus far, and it will take decades more of continuous work to continue preserving it.

The apocalypse is not a single event hovering in the future bearing down on us while we sit helplessly. We are at least 150 years into an ongoing "apocalypse."

Things will continue to steadily get worse without steady action, but "augh! it's already too late to stop climate change and mass extinctions!" is specifically the worst response

what I mean is, there is a persistent fallacy that the present situation of a thing is always worse than the past, even if there have been fluctuations in badness.

This is not true. There is a great wealth of specific cases where ecosystems/species/a specific anthropogenic impact on the environment is CURRENTLY, RIGHT NOW, better than it has been at any point in the past 100 years

I've been researching the history of conservation in the USA...and I think current doomers would benefit from knowing just how bad things got throughout the 20th century.

The eastern USA's natural environments were fucking razed. We went scorched earth on everything.

In the 1930's, DEER and WILD TURKEYS were almost eliminated from my state. Deer. Wild turkeys. Common animals that you can see all the time.

I've seen animals close to my home that a person in the 1970's would not have been able to see. I saw river otters and a bald eagle a couple months ago! Farmer family friend remembers when a bald eagle sighting here made the news. There is a thriving population of elk (16,000 animals) in the Appalachian Mountains, for the first time since before 1850!

We actively tried to exterminate so many species. Bison. Wolves. Mountain lions. The US GOVERNMENT PAID PEOPLE TO KILL CARNIVORES. They're still here. They're reclaiming their old territories. All is not lost
