Used a walking cane for the first time today and the lovely thing is that I couldn't tell if people looked at me because of that or because I have neon green hair or because I was wearing just a t-shirt when everyone was still in winter coats. Love being eccentric and disabled.
Disabled person: These plans for walkable cities are literally impossible for people who can't travel long distances without motorized transport or who require large mobility aids to live in, we should probably work on that
Able bodied self-proclaimed "leftists": Ugh disabled people are so petty! I can't believe you're this angry about the word "walkable!" You just want to make an issue out of everything!
If you know a disabled person who wears a prosthetic, they might not necessarily want said prosthetic to be an inextricable part of the commentary on every single picture of them that is ever taken. Like, if clearly the only thing you ever, ever notice in any picture of them is that prosthetic, even if the nature of the attention paid is positive... maybe don't?
Disabled people are allowed to be attractive or have positive attributes without having to go to extreme lengths to hide their disabilities/prosthetics. If the only positive thing you ever notice about them is that you think their prosthetic looks nice, then the message that sends is that you notice or remember nothing else about them.
