I’m starting up Baldur’s Gate 3 today, so I’m going to start posting about it here. I’ll be tagging with “bg3 spoilers” if you want to blacklist!
I’ve started keeping most of my video game talk on this side blog but in case I post about it here too, I’ll be using the same tag for blacklist purposes.
I spent a full eight hours just double checking tickets for a large project to see if they were complete or not. Gotta make sure the next one is set up differently so we don’t lose track of things.
I’m a little beat with how hot it’s been and needing to walk to my chiro appointment. So I think I’m gonna chill and watch other people play BG3, then play all day tomorrow. Seems like you can get a pretty smooth experience with a controller so I might try that.
I’m finally off work and BG3 is downloading! I started getting a migraine towards the end and it’s pretty intense so I’m probably not going to do any playing tonight. I might order out for dinner too.
I got some bigger projects at work today, but the data’s a mess for one of them so I’m trying to clean that up. I like that I have something a little more complex to work on.
Still not feeling great, but improved enough that I can sit upright and watch Twitch. I’m trying to get the BG3 items you get for watching two hours of BG3 streams. They’re very cute and purple.
the actual reason I consume mediocre media is because I have bad taste. the deeper secret pretentious reason is because I think there’s something very revealing about bad media that you don’t get with good media. when you watch a poorly executed plot point unfold, you see the machinery behind it. you see the gap between what’s actually on screen and the true goal the author is striving for. if it’s particularly awful, you can even measure just how poorly mismatched the author’s skills are with the story they’re trying to tell you. watching a poorly executed narrative play out feels like you’re discovering something, because you see all the wiring and guts underneath that better authors hide from you, in the same way that movies hide boom mics and books make you forget you’re turning the pages. if a story is good and executed well you just see the story. but I want to see the guts and wires!

I found out from my coworker that it’s the Blue Angels and it’s for an event that is going on all weekend. 🙃 Definitely going to be making use of my over ear headphones this weekend.

In case people weren’t aware, there seems to have been a massive issue throughout Patreon. People have had their subscriptions cancelled and many had their payments flagged as fraud with their bank. 150$ of my patronage disappeared, that’s 150$ a month as a disabled artist that took months to build that I’m unsure I’ll ever get back..Gone. It won’t allow me to message anyone whose payments were declined.I also had around 10 people’s payments flagged as fraud, some have had to re-patron. If you’re supporting Patreon creators I advise you look to see if at least the people you remember supporting are still there / that your payments aren’t marked as fraud, especially if you’re supporting for physical rewards you’re expecting.

Ask for the itemized list, you will be surprised how fast they come back with a "huh, that's weird, I can't seem to find where these damages are coming from" and let that shit go.

I just nearly had a panic attack when I was having problems booting up my pc, but it turns out the GPU sagging I noticed? More than just sagging; it actually disconnected. I had to open it up and pop it back into place.
I got everything set to download BG3 tomorrow. Chances are I won't get the chance to actually play; I won't be able to start downloading until I'm off work and it's a huge file. I'm hoping that since it's way after the release time at 8am the servers won't be as taxed but who knows.
Work was pretty chill. I'm realizing that I still have a very start-up mindset of getting everything done as quickly and efficiently as possible. This is a very established healthcare company that deals with government programs so everything moves slow. It might actually be a nice change of pace, and leaning into that even as a manager wouldn't be too much for me.
I’m gonna become a computer expert by the end of this pc business. I’ve noticed that the gpu in my personal pc is sagging, and it wouldn’t be an immediate issue if I wasn’t transferring the hdmi cords for the monitors from there to my work computer often. Turns out it’s a common issue and I can get a support bracket for it. I also have to learn how game file storage works so I can wipe my one early access BG3 save; Larian recommends you wipe all early access stuff and uninstall the game so the full release doesn’t conflict with anything. Console gaming is so much simpler. Though I absolutely understand why people like PC; one day I’ll be brave enough to mess with mods.
I also did some digging and found that bills for first semester students at my university don’t go out until mid-August. So that gives me like 2-3 weeks to take care of the student loan situation. Lovely.
