astarion is kind of like sans i think he will turn out like sans

  • perfectly good character in a vacuum
  • source material gets explosively popular and people fawn over the character making him unavoidable in some circles
  • often the fanon version is wildly out of character/flanderized cause people think its sexier or something
  • other people start to hate the character just cause hes disproportionately popular compared to other characters of equal importance
  • character becomes a meme
  • time passes, people eventually calm down and become normal about character and the source material
  • character gets added to smash bros

i think the way tiktok and tumblr (yes i am unifying these two sites together for this, for shame!) talk about autism and adhd (n honestly ocd too) as this quirky party trick has really damaged The Youths, at least in america (n they enact that damage on the rest of us, per usual)

like you guys will CONTINUE as usual to mock n harass anyone who is slightly "weird" or "offputting" bc well YOURE autistic and YOU dont do that, so it must be a them problem. well, YOU live on your own and YOU have a job and YOU have tons of friends and YOU go to uni and YOU go to the club and YOU arent weird. its not an "autism thing", this persons just weird. weird for being a picky eater, for using scripts in conversations, for avoiding crowded places n having meltdowns while in them, for living w their parents or in assisted living, for going on about their special interests, for missing social ques, for speaking "weird", for stimming, for having little or no friends, for being unemployed, for having motor issues, for being nonverbal, for not being able to handle the school/academy system, for being autistic.

THEYRE clearly just weird, THEYRE wrong for exhibiting signs and symptoms of autism. their autism is WRONG and WEIRD and OFFPUTTING. YOURE autistic and YOU dont do that, so its clearly "not about autism".

OF COURSE youre gonna detach autism/adhd from behaviors that are deemed socially unacceptable and failure to be contained within social structures. autism acceptance isnt about challenging the way we see the world - the way we see our social structures and those who cant be contained within them, what independence looks like, what is socially acceptable to look like, to act like, to do, to challenge our idea of intelligence and wisdom, of social connections, of society. autism acceptance isnt about all that. its about making cutesy tumblr post about how much you love a tv show. of course.

ok psa about eclipse safety cause people love misinformation

  • unless youre in the totality zone youre only going to see the bright laser that is the sun normally when you look up during the partial. you need the eclipse glasses to look DIRECTLY at the sun during the partial
  • if youre in the totality zone it will be very obvious when it enters totality. it is safe to look at the total eclipse without glasses, you cant even see it through the glasses
  • when totality ends the sudden shine can be a bit more dangerous cause your eyes adjusted to the darkness, just trust your instincts and look away. (i think this is where the fearmongering comes from)
  • the sun does not become a death laser during the eclipse.

I've been watching this develop for the past several days, and apart from being terrified most people will not take this seriously (I've seen a handful of people already shout conspiracy on social media and it's alarming to see, as always). What I wanted to point out is that pandemics are going to continue to be our 'normal.' I watched a great video on YouTube a while ago (I believe it was by Vice?) that touched base on how this is going to become our new reality because of multiple factors (such as our proximity to animals, and environments/etc). It was when Covid hit and they did a piece debunking some of the misinformation floating on the internet. If I can find it I will post it here because it was informative and relevant to pretty much any world crisis we will see around any virus that spreads among a human population.

This post isn't trying to fear monger anyone, I just hope more people are aware of what is happening because this is important to talk about. There are already cases (of cows getting this bird flu) in the US, and I won't be surprised if there will be instances in more countries around the world. As usual, keep washing your hands/keeping good hygiene practices, masking up (and if you aren't I hope you consider it), and taking precautions if you do happen to visit/work or go near a pig or poultry farm too:

^ official CDC advisory on H5N1, from april 5th this year. it describes the risk for human infection as low, but doesn't rule it out, and says to take special measures to protect yourself if you work with birds or livestock.

^ npr article from april 4th of this year that describes the cdc advisory's information in layman's terms. it also says the current spread between humans is extremely rare if at all, and the mutations in the virus don't currently affect its ability to infect humans.

i am not trying to disprove or invalidate op's concern—they've actually handled this very well, in my opinion—but a title like "100 times worse than COVID" is quite reactionary. H5N1 isn't at a stage where it can infect humans at the moment outside of a few cases, but it is something to look out for.
