Radical feminists are neither radical nor feminist. Adhering to cis hetero patriarchy and white supremacist notions of sex and gender aren't radical positions. That's the status quo. If I'm talking about women, that will always include trans women and people who can relate to the struggles of being seen as a woman even though they may fall outside the gender binary.

Japan redefines rape and raises age of consent in landmark move - BBC News

The new laws were passed by the upper house of the Diet - Japan's parliament - on Friday. They explicitly outline eight scenarios where it is difficult for a victim to "form, express, or fulfil an intention not to consent" to sexual intercourse.

These include situations where the victim is intoxicated with alcohol or drugs; or subject to violence or threats; or is "frightened or astonished". Another scenario appears to describe an abuse of power, where the victim is "worried" of the consequences of refusal.

This is only the first time Japan has changed its age of consent since its enactment in 1907.

ok I take back what I’ve said about contemporary art. This is amazing.

THIS is what art is about. I bitch about modern art a lot but the problem I have is that most of it (and I've worked in a museum and been an art student) is bullshitting. It is only sometimes you get shit like this, that is 0% bullshit and 100% raw screaming emotion that is demanding you LISTEN and FEEL and CONFRONT. This is art. This is what art is about. Are you mad? Are you horrified? Are you uncomfortable? GOOD.

[Image description: a photo of the exhibit and the description.

The exhibit shows a plugged in white box fan enclosed in a clear box.

It is by John Boskovich (1956-2006) and titled “Electric Fan (Feel it Motherfuckers); Only Unclaimed Item from the Stephen Earabino Estate, 1997.” It is made from an electric fan encased in Plexiglas with vinyl faux etching and Plexiglas base with casters. It was a gift of the artist in memory of Stephen Earabino, 2000.12. The description says “Soon after the death of his lover Stephen Earabino from AIDS, Los Angeles conceptual artist Boskovich discovered that Earabino’s family had completely cleared out his apartment, including the artist’s possessions, save for the electric box fan in this work. An entire person, existence, and relationship had been erased, like so many were during the AIDS crisis. Boskovich encased the fan in Plexiglas as a kind of evidence and added cutouts to allow its circulated air to escape and be felt by the viewer, almost like an exhalation. In a sense restoring Earabino’s breath, at least as a facsimile in memoriam, Boskovich makes a tender and brokenhearted gesture toward some form of eternal life.”

the tendency for racists and white supremacists to go gaga over their idea of ancient Rome is so darkly hilarious because of how entirely wrong it is. It’s not a twisting of some kernels of truth, it’s not a misinterpretation, it’s just the exact opposite, and people in Western Europe has been doing it for so long. For centuries people in Britain and Germany would be like/have been like “ah yes, we are special and superior because we are the heirs of the superior Romans” while next to a giant pile of writings by respected Ancient Romans who went “god, Britain is a dump and Germany is full of idiot barbarians. I wish I lived somewhere cool and cultured like Syria or Tunisia.”

#the amount of letters i read about roman soldiers bemoaning the lack of olives in britain is astounding

Also “I wish modern men were manly like the Romans” when we have so so so so many Roman writers bemoaning how everyone’s a bottom these days and wearing makeup and curling their hair

been stuck with a terrible feeling that one of the episodes in the new black mirror season is gonna end with a title card like "the program you just watched was written by artificial intelligence" and they're going to be so smug about it and we'll all have to talk about it for weeks

oh hey apollo

lol

why is everyone in the tags going “hurr hurr idiot of course thats what AI is” like. he’s saying what you’re all saying. he’s maybe the first dude i’ve seen with a decent amount of mainstream sway come out and call AI what it is against a sea of corporate brained hucksters breathlessly exclaiming that it’s The Death Of All Artists. like he’s on your side, why are you mad at him for it

like i love how the hunger games trilogy's epilogue is about katniss and peeta living in the remains of district 12 with a toddler and a baby on the way because the entire point of the series is about ending the cycle of abuse and moving onward to a future where children won't be thrown into death matches to prove a point. katniss is fully against having children throughout the books bc she simply can't handle the idea of bringing anyone into the world she lives in and knows she wouldn't be able to bear the trauma of losing them to the games if it came to that. and then the capitol is overthrown. and she can have children. they're a sign of hope. that ending makes sense. what DOESN'T make sense is basically every other story of any genre ending in "the most obvious way to show that they've fulfilled their narrative duties is to all pair off, settle down, and make babies". what is the point. how does that support the themes of the story you're writing. you're baby trapping your own characters
