Improving the amount of sleep and the quality of sleep you get helps with your heart health, mood, memory retention, blood sugar, and it even helps with boosting your immune system. Below are some tips on how to improve your sleep hygiene to help with your quality of sleep.
- Drink a warm cup of tea before bed
- Create a sleep schedule (set a time you sleep and a time you wake up)
- Avoid caffeinated drinks after 4pm
- Exercise 2 hours before bed
- Take a warm and relaxing shower or bath
- Journal about your day to calm your mind
- Listen to classical relaxation or calming music while getting ready for bed
- Stay off of social media 2 hours before bed
- Read a book to help you fall asleep
- Dim the lights in your room or turn on a lamp
- Avoid drinking a lot of water before bed
- Create a bed time routine and stick to it
- Do a 10-30 min. meditation
- Avoid drinking alcohol before bed (it is known to negatively affect your sleep and hormones)
