I got two tattoos yesterday that were both inspired by Dan Howell.
I've been a fan of Dan and Phil for many years. Throughout the years of watching them, I have found the strength to be myself. I'm a queer trans guy who is pansexual. I have dealt with depression and anxiety for as long as I can remember. Hearing both Dan and Phil be open about their sexuality, and their struggles, let me know that I wasn't alone in how I was feeling.
"Have the courage to exist" gives me the bravery to be my authentic self. I got the semicolon in "exist" because semicolons are used when an author could have ended a sentence, but didn't. I am choosing not to let my life end, and am trying to be content with my life. A semicolon tattoo is seen as a sign of hope for people who have had struggles with their mental health.
The tattoo with the outline of a head with the clouds and sun, is an illustration used in Dan's book "You Will Get Through This Night." To me, it shows that no matter how dark it may get in your head, the sun will always find its way back! Reading "You Will Get Through This Night" comforted me. Knowing that someone who I have looked up to for many years has struggled with some of the things I've struggled with, really opened my eyes and showed me that I wasn't alone.
I am eternally grateful that I have Dan and Phil to look up to!
