I’m not on Twitter anymore, but I see John Rogers is still there bringing the fire. As I think I mentioned here a while back, I’m not in the WGA yet -- applied, after writing the script for the Fifth Season film, but obviously everything’s on hold given this. (The script was being revised, but since the strike’s been called it’s “pencils down.”)

And the stakes are exactly as high as what John lays out here. I’ve already seen any number of absolute garbage takes on this -- dismissing screenwriters as rich hacks who just want to get richer, stupidly suggesting that only some workers should matter (as if that won’t get weaponized against all of us), and worse. But whether y’all want to believe it or not, creative workers are workers, and the WGA is fighting for all of us right now.

kind of wanna reinforce this here. because i’ve seen ai writing become so popular on tik tok.

ai writing is not okay.

it’s literally theft. just like how ai art steals, ai writing steals. it’s using authors’ very real work to generate whatever you type in. and this also needs to be said as well.

writing is a form of art. fanfiction is a form of literature.

seeing this all over my fyp is REALLY discouraging. fanfic itself is already a labor of love and we love it when you interact. but please do not use ai writing for your fanfic needs when this writing literally steals from fanfic authors.

genuinely don’t know if this post will go around because my interactions outside of hcs are shit, but i hope it does.

It really does also highlight a huge core of what makes AI so insidiously tempting: Impatience.

This kind of thinking has warped us all into viewing things as only worth existing if they are done fast, that the end result is all that matters, that everything is only a product to be consumed and churned out rapidly. And this is making us constantly looking for shortcuts, even if it means completely destroying our own integrity as artists/workers/writers/etc.

AI ideally should be about ENHANCING what we do (like upscaling), not become a substitute or a replacement.

There’s a freshman kid in my college marching band this year and his name is, i kid you not, Danny Fenton.

This is him on Halloween:

The best part is, although his hair is spraydyed for this picture, he’s actually almost fully gray at the age of 18.

He is actually going ghost

omfg it took me like two minutes to realize it wasn’t the guy in the sheet

fun fact: person in the sheet was the “holey ghost”

Fuck dude this is still circulating?? Dan is a gottdamnd senior now

Meanwhile, on Twitter...

Elon's terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad week continues, as things not only fail to completely fire, but backfire...

In your youth you helped a group of horsemen in trouble. When the apocalypse came many years later, four vaguely familiar faces knocked on your door. They are the horsemen of the apocalypse and they offer you a place among them as the fifth horseman in thanks for your help all these years ago.

The story goes that there were to be four horsemen who would ride across the Earth, bringing with them the End of Days, the apocalypse. The great Seals would be undone, and one by one four great calamities would ravage the world, coming in the wake of the Horsemen as they crossed the planet.

First would come Conquest, riding on a white horse and decorated like a king of old, firing a great bow as he crossed the land. Wherever this bow’s arrows struck, the generals and presidents and kings and ministers were struck with lust for glory earned on blood soaked mud, or bitter rage that swelled to bursting over grievances old and new, or zealous fury born of ideologues that bayed for enemies within and without to be crushed by the weight of crumbling empires. And so the great nations and empires and powers of the Earth sought to subdue one another and their own people. Each sought to one-up the others, to make as many bow to their sovereignty as possible and conquer the hearts and minds of their fellows by whatever means, be they bullet or ballot or bill, through means stained red or glittering gold.

Second would come War, great horn baying and sword held high as his blood red horse crossed the nations and lands of the Earth. Wherever it was heard, the fragile peace enforced by threats and bribes and the competing interests of the mighty broke. In the wake of the second horseman, War bloomed in fields of mud watered by blood of the poor and desperate, the blind and deluded, led by the true believers and the greedy. A million different banners waved in the burning winds, those of empires and those of the conquered, those of rebels and the oppressors, and those of every nation and people of every land. The whole Earth knew the warm embrace of War, and there was not a day where the guns fell silent, until the last round had been fired and the last generals no longer gave orders that were followed.

Third to ride would be Famine, riding a black horse and wearing a dark suit. He carried with him scales and ledgers and tablets of glass and lithium and steel, with which to tally the crops and medicines and fuel and water and shelters and to set the prices accordingly. Wherever the jealous and greedy and hoarders kept the necessities of life locked away from those who needed them, the third Horseman’s tread could be heard. In the wake of the dark horse came the hoarding of the world, the people left to freeze and starve and die so the great treasures of the kings in all but name would appreciate in value and could be speculated upon, great gambling games with the assurance of golden parachutes while the rest lacked even the barest of safety nets.

Fourth to ride would be Death, upon his pale horse, bringing the end with him. Most of the last horseman’s work was to be done by his fellow riders. Disease, violence and bloodshed and starvation wracking the Earth in the wake of the other riders. Last would be the Reaper, come to take his harvest and close the curtains, or so many believed. For was it not the end of days, the end of the world? How could any go on after all the misery inflicted on the world these many long years? But Death did not ride out to claim the lives of humanity in one final cleaning of the slate. There were deaths, but the great ringing of bells that tolled across the Earth were not for the people of the world, nor were they for the Earth itself. Death came for an era, for a system, for a way of thinking, for the world-that-was.

For the fifth horseman to ride, one not planned for in the endless anticipation of one final cataclysmic end to all things, was Kinship. As Death brought about a final sunset upon a world of kings and presidents and generals and ministers, Kinship would bring a new dawn, the start of a new day, a new era. The world-that-will-be brought about as the final rider ushered in solidarity and kinship in the hearts of all, that they may work together as equals to build the better world they had been waiting for.  The many peoples of the world, unique and equitable and free to do as they wished. No longer would they wait for the better world to be built around them, as Kinship rings out in their hearts they will bring that world into being themselves.

Oh. My. Fucking. God. This is amazing.

An old Italian man lived alone in New Jersey. He wanted to plant his annual tomato garden; but it was very difficult work as the ground was hard. His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament:

Dear Vincent,

I am feeling pretty sad, because it looks like wont be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. know if you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me, like in the old days. Love, Papa

A few days later he received this letter from his son:

Dear Pop, Don't dig up that garden. That's where the bodies are buried. Love, Vinnie

At 6 am the next morning, FBl agents and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son:

Dear Pop, Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That's the best could do under the circumstances. Love, Vinnie

Hey trans friends in the US, has your state made it difficult or next to impossible to get the healthcare you need? Can't afford to leave home and/or want to stay and fight? Yah me too.

Well I know of many, many sky friends spread throughout the us who would like to go on a free little weekend sky adventure. :]

Check em out and chat about em with even more friends.

Dr Doolittle-style show about a detective who can talk to animals, except instead of talking like people the animals still talk like animals, just translated into English sentences, so the plot of most episodes centres around trying to figure out what the star witness testimony actually means.

Victim's murder was witnessed by her pet snake, whose tank was in the room. Unfortunately pet snake is incapable of describing the world around them except in terms of 'rocks' and 'meat', with their descriptions of individual forms of 'meat' focusing almost entirely on body temperature and smell.

(Solved when it turns out that their description of 'warm-cold meat with rock' was actually an attempt to describe a suspect with a prosthetic limb, which is pretty unnoticeable to a human, but looks dramatically different in infrared.)

Murder at a honey farm. Each witness managed to see about ~0.06% of the full crime, in order to get the full picture, you have to get them to swarm.

Victim was found several days after death, already crawling with maggots. Days into the investigation, protag begins a frantic search to find any surviving maggots/flies that were on the corpse, after realising that how the victim tasted would give vital information about the poison used.

Also there's at least one or two animals who actually do talk in full sentences and in terms humans can understand, and the reason behind this is never fully explained.

All cats in this universe talk in terms of 'mine/not-mine' and mainly focus on territory, mates and food, with the one exception of the main character's cat who is named Watson and knows how to use sarcasm.

All insects speak in one word sentences where everything is 'food', 'enemy' or (for hive insects) 'friend' and 'queen', with the exception of seven-spotted ladybirds specifically, who for some reason speak in full English sentences and are up to date and knowledgeable about world events. The protagonists is as concerned by the full implications of this as you are.

They also voted to block to student debt relief, cut tax breaks and subsidies for renewable energy, added work requirements for financial assistance, take back COVID relief money from states, and boost fossil fuel production.

And a very insidious cap on government spending that only grows 1% every year (less than the rate of inflation). Meaning that every year would necessarily require even more cuts.

The worst part is that they made it all a condition for the federal government to pay its debt. Their plan being that if Biden doesn't capitulate to their demands, the US government goes into default, which would cause a global financial crisis.

Oh, and don't think that the 4 Republicans who voted Nay are reasonable. They're voted against it because this bill didn't go far enough for them.

The good news is that the Democrats control the Senate and White House, so this bill won't get enacted.

TL;DR: House Republicans passed an extorsion bill that threatens to blow up the world economy if Biden doesn't capitulate to their demands to hurt poor Americans and make climate change worse.

Abolish the Republican Party!

Where you can sign up for your share of the money if you’re in the USA. Would have been nice to mention that anywhere in the post
