Now that it’s pride month I’m going to say something controversial. 

Destiel is not gay. Dean loves Cas beyond his vessel, whether Cas is female or male. Cas loves Dean as who he is. No matter how they change over the years, they still love each other.

That said, Cas shouldn’t have to change his vessel to be accepted as someone Dean can romantically love. They are LGBT+ but saying “gay” does not cut to the truth of the relationship, especially as Dean has meaningful romantic relationships with women and Cas does not have a constant gender identity.
