How the LGBTQ+ Community Conquered 2020 ⚔️🏳️‍🌈

2020 has not been the easiest of years for us. From wild bushfires and hurricanes, to a global pandemic and elections, this year has put a toll on all of us.

But we want to look at the positives that happened in the LGBTQ+ community in 2020 to remind us all that there has been light in all of this darkness and that we should look forward to the wins which will greet us in 2021.

The LGBTQ+ community has made a lot of progress in 2020 and that will only continue into 2021! As a community, let’s push forward and make the next year an amazing one! Stay proud! ⚔️🏳️‍🌈

Way way back I drew a comic explaining what we really mean by ‘The Autism Spectrum’ and posted it here back when Tumblr was Huge. Then the comic really blew up!! Last year I did a remake of the comic, with some updated language, and using Mia, a character from a graphic novel I made. Figured I’d share for Autism Acceptance Month!

How do you preserve the food from your garden so it doesn't go bad before you can eat it?

Avatar

You are wildly underestimating my ability to go fucking feral about fresh produce. I don't think I even brought snap peas into the house last year. Just ate them right off the vine.

Though I did end up freezing the strawberries/blue berries as they ripened, but even those were consumed within the week.

The only tough one was the potatoes, but that was resolved by just foisting potatoes on everyone I knew. Much more welcome than Zucchinis.

Oh this is why every gardening person I know keeps trying to give me the food they grow

That, and we love you. Homegrown produce is a love language.

Unless it's zucchini. Then it's a cry for help.

Tomato (June) - I think highly of you; treasured friend

Tomato (September) - you are a warm body that is nearby

Fresh new asparagus - romantic love

Artichoke - fondness

New rhubarb with leaves removed - flirtatious potential

Rhubarb with leaves left on - the bloom is gone

Swiss chard - I have made mistakes

Perpetual spinach - declaration of animosity between our houses

White-fleshed potato - you are a neighbor

Blue or red fleshed potato - as above, but with overtones of camaraderie/affection

Kale - you are a person who was nearby when I had kale

Raspberries - you are a person I admire

Strawberries - you are a treasure

Onion - I am confused

Young French beans or young peas - I thought of you especially

Runner beans - mild criticism; familial ties; gift from parent to child

Pumpkins - overt romantic, sexual or childhood-bestie interest; highest declaration of loyalty

Prettily coloured popping corn, I.e. glass gem - let this seal the breach between our houses

Zucchini/courgette - cry for help, resignation

Novelty pumpkins - marriage proposal

The thought that Brucie Wayne and Batman being two completely separate entities that Bruce can code switch between has consumed me especially with the idea that he mixes the two together on occasion to fuck with people

Okay so....I searched the database for one AI, for a single one of my fanarts, and there it was. Twice. Honestly I don't know what to say bc I'm feeling complex things but I'll take a stab at coherency. AI is not going to impact me personally the way it could potentially impact actual professional artists. But I still have worked my entire life to get to the level I'm at now, and it's a little demoralizing. But more importantly I'm concerned about how this AI art thing could go for artists, and don't want my art to help those potentials come about. My art has been reposted places and I suspect it was probably pulled from Pinterest or something, not my actual blog. But, for what it's worth, please don't put my art into AI databases. Please don't feed *anyone's* art to an AI database unless they explicitly are ok with it. Also, please don't repost my work without obvious credit and redirect to the source. As soon as an art seems to just be floating out in the internet without claim it tends to get used like public property or for profit with higher frequency.

If you want to make art there are so many avenues to learn, including plenty of amazing free resources. Will it be more frustrating than imputing someone else's labor into a machine? Yes. Unquestionably. But the arts are some of the most beautiful parts of being human, and you don't get that without the entire lexicon of human emotion. I still hate my own work sometimes (often?), not in an emotionally fraught way, but in a *great* way. Because it means art and I are not done with one another.

“1. This is how the story goes. A boy raised in captivity falls in love with a sun he sees for the first time, flies too close thinking he can possess it, doesn’t listen to a father’s warning and plummets into the sea. His father grieves, so everyone grieves. The story is immortalised in the boy’s blood, a tale passed down with silkdelicate care through eternity. 2. There is another story. In it a boy asks too many questions, lusts too much for more, dares to question his father’s authority. He is banished from the skies, sent falling from the heavens but he does not die. Instead he is named ruler of all that is cruel, painful and wretched with the world. No one grieves for this boy, as he is deemed the root of all evil. 3. It is the way of the universe for boys to disobey their fathers, for children to question what they know and want more, more from their lives. 4. The way a father chooses to love after this happens is how the story is told. 5. This is the reason everyone weeps for Icarus. 6. It is also the reason no tears were ever shed for Lucifer.”

Australian boulder opal!  This brown matrix is covered in cracks which have filled in with flashy precious opal.  She is beautiful, but it is hard to appreciate her colors because she is just such a Little Guy.  Let’s get closer.

Pretty good!  Under magnification, we can really see the fire of that opal filling in the tiny cracks.  This is about the level of magnification that my old microscope could manage.  Anyway, let’s get closer.

The fire is intensifying!  More colors are appearing!  Tiny fireworks invisible to the naked eye!  But we can get closer.

YES, that FIRE!!  But I want to be closer than that!!  I demand we get closer!!

YES!  GOOD!!  CLOSER!!  ALL UP IN THIS ROCK’S PERSONAL SPACE!!!

YES!! YES!! YEEEEES!!!!

Feel free to use this list to develop your own lore, but DO NOT claim it as your own or repost. It's pretty long, but I think it covers a lot of relevant topics for worldbuilding.

Hell, I'd be hype for this even if it weren't a true story!

For people who don't know who the Chevalier St George was:

- he was the son of a french aristocrat and an enslaved Senegalese woman called Nanon

- he actually had a relationship with his mother, which was pretty usual for children in his situation. I haven't been able to establish whether she was later freed or not, but I think she was because she left a will, suggesting she owned property

- his father legally wasn't allowed to make him his heir because of racist laws at the time, but he acknoledged him as his son and gave him a rich person's education and opportunities

- he was one of, if not the, greatest violinists of his generation, played first violin for the Paris opera and was violin teacher to the queen before the revolution

- he was in line to be composer and director of the opera but a famous dancer who was pissed off he didn't want a relationship with her started a petition to get his appointment blocked

- he knew Haydn and commissioned the Paris Symphonies from him

- Mozart's father tried to make him go and see St George perform because he thought it would be good for his musical education but Mozart was (it is speculated) jealous of there being another young music prodigy, and refused to go

- he was ridiculously handsome . Look at this, my guy is pulling off a powdered wig, do you know how hard it is to look good in a powdered wig?!

- he was considered one of the greatest duelists and swordsmen in france

- he fought a duel with the Chevalier D'eon, who at the time was living as a woman (we have no idea if D'eon was afab or amab but they made their reputation as a man and then later switched to presenting as a woman)

- he wrote incredible concertos and unbelievably terrible operas. The longest any of his opera's ever ran before being shut down was a couple of weeks. Some one lasted 1 night. He kept writing them.

- he joined the revolutionaries to otherthrow the king because they (falsely) promised to abolish slavery and emancipate all enslaved people

- he was a fantastically successful soldier and lead the first all black regiment in europe, which came to be known as the regiment st George in his honour

He's legitimately one of the most interesting figures in french history, and certainly one of the most romantic, and I'm so glad he might finally be getting the recognition he deserves!

Tonight I’m thinking about supra-batchmate connections. Like you have your batch (4-5 clones, depending) as the smallest group and your generation (all the clones your age, at least in my headcanon) as the largest, but what about these

Or these:

(I was thinking strand mates for the top one and ring mates for the bottom)

I would love to hear anyone’s thoughts on this!

I would actually move away from the -mates suffix for these ones, it's good, but it feels overused. But hmmm.

I've always called the top one a tower or stack and the bottom one a pod or a round.

For the top one you could add "-er" like Hevy does when he refers to Fives and Echo as his "batchers". That gives "stackers" which - ooooh I like that. Okay so, stackers for the top.

"Podders" feels Incorrect though. "Rounders" feels less incorrect but still off. You could play with circle terminology. Sector to "sect" maybe? I don't like it as much as stackers, but I do like it. Could also be "school" like school of fish, since Kamino is a water planet.

For equivalents to natborn relationships I would define the following as:

  • Decanting batchmates - siblings and first cousins
  • Training batchmates - childhood best friends
  • Sect/School - people who grew up in the same apartment building
  • Stackers - people who grew up in the same apartment complex
  • Squad (5 clones) - college roommates
  • Company (80 clones, 16 squads) - people who went to the same college but weren't roommates
  • other companies in the same unit (regiment to legion, 400-54k clones) - coworkers
  • other units in the same corps (162k clones) or system army (810k clones) - people who work for the same business but in a different city in the same state or territory
  • other units in a different corps or system army - people who work for different businesses across the country
  • Brothers/the Vode - people from the same country

The numbers are my own personal division of the GAR, which I'm happy to infodump about on a separate post.

If squadmates are college roommates, maybe company is people on the same dorm hallway, or people who shared your major and year (who would be in the same upper-level classes)? 🤔

Batches might be 4-5, but you'd probably have several batches decanted at once. If they've been going at the same rate and had "200,000 units ready" 10 years into the process, that's 200k clones (at least- more if a unit is a squad or more) that have finished training and reached adulthood, so we might assume at least 200k are decanted in a year. If they're staggering that, it would be more than 500 clones or 100 5-clone batches a day (using Earth years). The rings could represent clones that were started on the same day and are set to be decanted in the same day, which might make the level those decanted in a week, and the tower a month? If they do bigger groups less often, it might be a whole tower the first day of every month.

So maybe they'd use time-related works like agemates/daymates? Could be daters or timers if you wanted to move away from -mate words. The roughly 5000 decanted in 2 space-weeks as a group could simply be "your tenday".

Ooooh I like "your tenday". And maybe each tower is actually your decanting batch of [squints] however many that is - 1k minimum? - and it's just training batches that are still 4-5 clones? I like to think your training batch would be your original squad - Domino Squad would be a training batch, rather than the entire barrack we see in Clone Cadets. While, for example, maybe all the clones in the same age group whose last four numbers start with 5 are Fives' decanting batch? Also like. Gree (1004) and Fox (1010) would be from the same pod, and Bacara (1138) from the same tower, while Cody's (2224) one tower over from them. Having them decanted by age groups would also tie in neatly with the "their numbers are much longer, the four digits are just abbreviated versions", maybe Fives is clone trooper age group 27, tower 5, pod 5, embryo 55, while Cody is clone commander age group 0, tower 2, pod 2, embryo 24. If how you abbreviate your number on the field is up to you, Grey (CC-10/994) could be clone commander age group 10, tower 0, pod 9, embryo 94 OR clone commander tower 10, pod 9, embryo 94. Staggered age groups could also explain why some CCs are so much lower ranked. If Appo is age group, for example, 111, it makes sense for him to still be learning and gaining experience as a sergeant during Umbara while age group 0 has already graduated and gotten commander or marshal commander rank. Essentially doing something like running start/concurrent enrollment for grad and undergrad? Finishing classroom lessons from his datapad on the Resolute while taking practical exams in the form of... being in a war?

Company on the same dorm hallway is a better analogy, thank you. (And continuing the college metaphor probably recognizes the clones better as twenty somethings. As a twenty something who went straight into the workforce (after dropping out five times for financial or time reasons, but that's neither here nor there) and doesn't want children, I still catch myself thinking jobs are only for thirty somethings with a degree, a spouse, and at least one child.) In that vein, maybe superior officers are upperclassmen, other companies are on different floors, other units are in different dorms, and other corps and armies are at different colleges in the same city? while brothers/Vode refers to essentially everyone in that city? It would be interesting if the clone portions of Tipoca City were actually laid out similarly - just replacing "college" with "dome".

I like the numbers corresponding to cloning group and tube position! Maybe the barracks could be similar, with a tower in a bunkroom and a pod on the same level or same ladder.

I do wonder if they get rotated into different squads, though, especially give domino's different numbers. Maybe at some point they get reassigned based on some kind of aptitude test, either with others who share the same skills, or all with different strengths to balance out. It could even happen multiple times- you could have your decanting batch that you live with until maybe age 5(10), your training squad for most of your teen-ish years, and then your deployment squad for the last year when you learn more specialized skills depending on where you'll end up. They'd move to different barracks/sections of the city at the same time.

Superior officers as upperclassmen makes so much sense. The older ones who help train the younger ones would be TAs!

Yeah! That's what I was thinking too. Like your decanting batch or your pod is all raised in the same nursery for the first year or two for the most basic training and then you get separated I was thinking around 5 developmental years of age (2.5 chronologically) and put with your training batch based on aptitude and personality.

I have one OC, actually, Tali (ARC-7990), who I have as Rex' decanting batchmate but they were assigned to different training squads. So they're kind of aware the other exists and they do get along, but it's much more like my relationship with the siblings I still talk to now that we're all moved out. I'm much closer to my roommates and discord servers and other people I interact with almost every day than to the people I share DNA and an upbringing with and now rarely see.

Deployment squad/multiple training squads is an interesting concept, especially given the amount of accidents and decommissioning that happen in fanon. I remember in one fic, Rex and Kix were part of the same "scraps squad" where each member of their deployment squad was the last surviving member of their training squads for various reasons.

I really do like the idea of barracks being organized by specialization. Maybe Domino Squad's barracks and those around them were all for infantry while pilots were in another part of the city? Maybe somewhere closer to the landing pads? And it's likely the more specialized you were (slicer squads, arc pairs, etc) the smaller your barracks were and the closer you were with the people you shared it with. Where infantry makes up the bulk of the army and Domino Squad was also dealing with their own Issues, maybe Fives and Echo roomed with another one or two ARC pairs who they grew to be close friends with. Another 2-4 people as opposed to [gestures at Clone Cadets] that chaos lmao.

I don't doubt there are plenty of cobbled together squads and companies and more, especially as the war goes on. Maybe accounting for that is part of why they don't stay in their decanting batches- to make sure they can work within any group.

I'm curious why you picked 2.5(5) years as the time to shuffle squads around? I was thinking 5(10) as around the age of transition from elementary to middle school (when real kids might end up with a different set of classmates), and also an age where the clones might really move from "child" to "cadet" and start more intensive training.

(I also headcanon that, because there aren't enough trainers to keep up with all of them from decanting, part of moving to that more intensive training is starting to work with real trainers for the first time. The clones that are still in the "child" stage are taught with a combination of droids, learning modules, and "cadet" aged clones who've mastered the basics. (This is all for maximum angst value- the little ones don't have anything like a parent, only droids and brothers))

Of course, they could get shuffled multiple times- interest and aptitude can change a lot as a kid grows!

Definitely agree on the specialized barracks, both in location and size.

Part of why I was thinking of shuffling them into deployment squads after most of the training is finished is because those highly-specialized ones might be embedded in companies of more general soldiers. You'd have squads of fighter pilots who all work as a unit of course, but you'd also have transport pilots who are going to work more with the squad(s) they transport than with other pilots. Or you might have a squad of medics in a regiment, but in the field they're each attached to a company instead of always together.

[nodnod] it's definitely a balance between unit cohesion and individual versatility

I chose 2.5/5 because that's when kids start to really develop their social skills and individual personalities after meeting the basic milestones. It's why a lot of parents of autistic kids first notice around that age. At that point, the Kaminoans would have a pretty good idea of who works together how, and I can't really imagine them letting clones stay at one stage when they have enough data to move them to the next. Clone social structure wise, this is when I think they'd be considered to be child cadets/littles and to be no longer tubies. It's also important to keep in mind that the level of child abuse they go through means rushing them into age-inappropriate training as fast as possible. A developmentally 5 year old clone may have already logged enough range hours to be slotted for heavy gunner or sniper training, as much as we wish otherwise.

Ooooh I love that headcanon for training. Like the Alphas teach the first batch of CCs who teach both the second batch of CCs and the first batch of CTs and so on. It also reminds me of this one post I made about older clones adopting younger clones. (I definitely think Cody and Rex have the vibe of Cody being the parentified older brother in the face of Jango's deadbeat dad.)

I do think even though kids have rapidly changing interests and skills, the clones wouldn't be given that option to change based on them. The Kaminoans would choose for them at a specific point in their development (like how you can only be tested for gifted status at 1st and 3rd grade in my state) and then they would be expected to put up or shut up because that's where the Kaminoans decided they'd do best and if they don't like it then it sucks to suck.

[nodnod!] That makes a lot of sense! I suppose I just always figured that sort of thing happened after deployment, based on the unit's (regiment or higher's) needs. Specialist is also a military rank, on the same level (E-4) as Corporal in the US army. Maybe more specialized certifications, like medic, sniper, slicer, etc, ship out with the Specialist rank instead of Private (E-1 through E-3) and it's up to their new CO to shuffle them around when they arrive? As opposed to it happening right before or as they leave Kamino. In which case, I would call it first assignment squad rather than deployment squad, to distinguish between people you've trained with at least a little and are now stepping out into the galaxy and the war with vs people you've never met before who you're now expected to work with.

Since I recently saw a few people looking for BL dramas from GMMTV on illegal sites, I just wanna let you know they are OFFICIALLY FREE on youtube on GMMTVs youtube channel already provided with english subtitles for international fans.

I’ll send you right to the playlists of the (imo) best shows on there:

Honorable mentions that are not GMMTV but also on yt:

Ok, I decided to extend this list to BL / LGBTq dramas on streaming sites (still official, free no login needed):

Depending on your region you might need a vpn set to Thailand / Japan / South Korea / Philippines, but for me sitting in Germany it works without vpn. Earth VPN or Urban VPN are good addons for Chrome.

Sometimes the subs don’t show on we.tv just reload the page then.

Regarding Trigger Warnings pls check for yourself. MyDramaList works good for that with their tags on the shows pages (click on “Vote or add tags” it will show all tags but also spoiler tags).

can someone please tell me what the fuck I just saw

this guy is just keeping a shit ton of eels in a storm drain? There's a water filtration system down there? the water is clear?? there's crawfish?? they possibly ate the other crawfish??? there's an aquarium above the pool???? he's just tossing animals in there to be eaten maybe???

what kind of pit is this? what happens when it rains, do the eels get washed away? what's with the aquarium?? Is this like a well on his property or city infrastructure???

It's a rain cistern on his property!! It was unused, and he realized it would be perfect for eels, so he made it into the eel pit!! It's all closed in!!

They're American eels so are used to colder water/colder temperatures!

Also the aquarium is just cause he likes fish/aquatic animals, and has worked with them for years!

Twine Sugarcube 101

AKA, all you need to make a Twine game (I swear to god)

I’ve seen a lot of people go “Twine is too complicated for me :(” and give up before they’ve even started. And that makes me sad, partly because they’re giving up on a really cool hobby, and also because that’s false! It’s absolutely not too complicated for you!

I think the problem is that people look up Twine, see the documentation, and go “There’s way too much there! I can’t learn all that!” Well guess what- you shouldn’t learn all that, at least not yet. As a beginner you can skip pretty much all of this:

(Ignore <<linkappend>> too, forgot to crop that one out)

That’s a lot more manageable, right? Below the cut, I’ll let you know how to use all those remaining important things to make your story! Warning- it’s quite long! You might want to read it in sections! And while I’ll try to keep it entertaining, it’s also a coding tutorial, so… y’know. Might not be the most exciting read if you aren’t trying to learn Twine.

I think the best part of KinnPorsche, and it really comes to mind with this latest episode, is that every character thinks they’re in a different genre and it’s the funniest thing watching it clash with the reality.

Kinn is just living his best rom-com life where he falls for his sassy but kind assistant bodyguard that he can no longer live with out.

Porsche is basically a YA novel where he falls for his sexy morally ambiguous love interest who’s secretly sweet but *gasp* his past has come to haunt him!

Pete thinks he’s in a dark psychological thriller where he must battle his inner demons and brooding but hot captor to maintain his humanity but it threatens to over take him at any moment as he is torn between his newly found dark desires and the reputation he prides himself on.

Vegas acts like he’s in gothic bodice ripper novel where his entire world becomes the kind, empathic heroine Pete and he will do anything to keep him to himself and Pete is going to help him overcome the truama of his past with his love.

Kim sees himself in this brooding noir style detective film where he must uncover the dark past of his family but oh no he finds himself falling for the pure and sweet ingénue Chay and must wrestle with the dangerous life he leads and the mission he’s devoted himself to and the love of his life

Porchay thought he’s living his Wattpad dream life where he meets his idol and gains his respect as he tutors him and they slowly develop a sweet friendship that turns into a heartfelt romance

They really demonstrate how all the characters are protagonists of their own story, and that’s how they make their decisions, based on the assumptions on the world around them. They think they know the story their in, and that’s the role they have taken, but the tragedy and the complications of these relationships is that they aren’t in a single genre story. They’re people, achingly human people, interacting with other complex people and what is salvation for one is a damnation for the other.

They aren’t in any specific genre (you know, beyond on the whole mafia thing) and that’s where the miscommunication happens, that’s how the drama unfolds, that’s how all these different romances keep missing each other, because they’re all operating on different wavelengths based on the story they think *THEY’RE* in and not stopping to really consider the other perspective.

It’s absolutely hilarious, it’s terribly tragic, it’s utterly beautiful and performed so well by the writers and the actors.
