This film is a tragicomedy about a Serbian crime boss who, in order to please his fiancee, reluctantly agrees to provide protection for a planned Pride parade.

I came across this film when I was looking to add some Eastern European films to the blog. It was the highest rated on the list I found and the premise sounded amusing. I didn't know until later that this film was actually quite important. Before this movie came out, the only two attempts at a Pride parade in Belgrade were met by violence from large groups of extremists, resulting in a lot of people being injured (footage from one of these appears in the film). When the film was released in 2011, it was a massive success in all of former Yugoslavia. In neighboring Croatia, it became the second highest attended film ever. Gay rights have a long way to go in Serbia, but the Belgrade Pride Parade is no longer halted by violence and has been held annually for the last ten years. This movie is mentioned in a number of articles as a turning point.

I tracked down this film and was able to watch it. I got the impression that you need to be from the Balkans in order to fully appreciate it, but I still thought it was pretty funny. Fair warning that the first scene involves a dog getting shot (he makes a full recovery).
