Until asexuality is not classified as a mental disorder (HSDD) in the DSM IV, we do not have the rights we deserve. Until legally there is a ban against conversion therapy for all of the LGBTQ community, including aces, we do not have the rights we deserve. You have asexual tags on many of your posts, which confuses me more. I don’t know who hurt you to the point that you think because you aren’t being beat up right now by someone who hates you for being ace you have all the rights you deserve, but you don’t. This youtuber got herself braids a few weeks ago and got so many comments on how and why it was wrong. She educated herself and even made a research on the history of braids, dreads and cornrows.

She posted a video where she removes her braids and explains to other Korean people the importance of these hairstyles. She’s a good example of how someone can learn from their mistakes and spread awareness.

y’all know that like… latino… isn’t a race… right? it’s an ethnicity, which has members of every race, culture, experience, and background you can think of. you guys really need to stop using latino as a catchall for us when you just mean mestizos, because when you say “latino,” do haitians, brazilians, indigenous latin americans, filipino-latinos, white argentinians or japanese-panamanians come to mind? or do you really just mean mexicans?

not all of us identify with the term “latino,” and it’s honestly not that much better than calling us hispanic. indigenous caribbeans exist as well and, due to not wanting to leave their own culture behind and embrace the colonization of spaniards, consider themselves taíno rather than mestizo or latino. not to mention, white people can be latino too, and that doesn’t make them mixed or brown, it makes them a white person from latin american descent. they don’t experience racism like we do. xenophobia, maybe, but they’re still white and have held power over us brown & black latinos from the very start.

ever wonder why any representation of black or brown latinos has almost always depicted us as dirty, uncivilized, lazy slobs? even in our own countries and our own telenovelas, a white or white passing latino is always represented as the “good one,” as the perfect standard that all of us who aren’t like them should be. and that’s not all, bc within our own communities there is rampant colorism and antiblackness that was first introduced by our colonizers, and with what little they left of the indigenous folk and culture, they applied their own standards of life, which has shaped us into who we are today.

sure, some mestizos are fine with using the terms latino or even hispanic for themselves, and there’s nothing wrong with that! i admittedly prefer (afro)latino for myself. and some mestizos are white passing as well, but the point is that latinos, as an ethnic group, are not inherently nonwhite, and if you’re a gringo you should seriously reconsider lumping all of us under the “latino” umbrella if you’re only talking about the ones who actually experience anti-mestizo racism.

please reconsider why and how these terms were introduced and applied to nearly all of us, lest you make nonwhite latinos feel uncomfortable and alienated. before you make that post for whatever little fame you gain from it, make sure your facts are straight and specify exactly who you’re speaking for. don’t ignore or erase those who have struggled differently than you.
