Please keep your cats inside; some of us are bummed we never got to see a flightless passerine species before literally all of them got exterminated by cats
Let them out ta fuck. There's enough predators out there to be killing birds, domesticated cats don't do half as much as people commonly believe. Let them OUT
I don’t know if you are actually willing to engage on this topic but you should know that the conservation science is very conclusively not on your side here. If you are like me and love our native fauna, it’s really important to understand the threat posed to them by domestic cats. We have the data and now it’s our responsibility to do better for our threatened birds, reptiles, and mammals! I used to let my cat out before I understood the threat to the ecosystem; when we are armed with knowledge we can always grow and improve! Please take a look at this study (from a branch of the journal Nature, no less) for some evidence as to how our native animals are really counting on us to minimize the threat of cats!
“Our findings suggest that free-ranging cats cause substantially greater wildlife mortality than previously thought and are likely the single greatest source of anthropogenic mortality for US birds and mammals. Scientifically sound conservation and policy intervention is needed to reduce this impact”
