to me big smiles are so synonymous with horror that fails to be scary that i think if you put me in a creepy room saw-style with a blood splattered smiley face on the wall i would calm down a bit. because it indicates a person trying too hard to be sickos and scary. it's a bit of a cutiepie trait. but if it was a blood splattered frowny face i'd get scared because then i know they mean business

hey instead of bullying or scaring you into switching to firefox, let me tell you why i LOVE firefox and how my online life has improved significantly since installing it

- the setup process is easy, and even fun! if you’re using tumblr rn, you can handle it, and if you’re the kind of tumblr user who likes customizing your blog or tinkering with xkit, you can have a lot of fun personalizing really granular settings and picking themes and extensions and everything, it’s very customizable and i happily spent like 2 hours getting everything perfect.

- you can use a command line entry tool to change specific settings right from the search bar! i did this to make firefox stop auto filling my email information since i use a different password locker (which you should too! try bitwarden!), and it was easier than digging through a bunch of submenus for a setting i wasn’t sure existed. you can just turn shit off!

- there’s a preset theme called aurora that’s purple and VERY pretty

- once you get ublock origin and as many other blockers as you’d like set up, no ads, anywhere, ever! streaming sites, youtube, all the basics, totally no stress and no compatibility issues for me

- in browser screenshot and picture in picture functions!! holy shit i use these every day, the PiP is especially helpful, it replaced an extension i used to use on chrome and it’s leagues better and works on all video content pretty much

- overall better downloads management imo, it’s a lot easier to get to your downloads and find them later

- better bookmark system, with the ability to organize your bookmarks with searchable tags and assign them a shortcut you can type into the search bar to go to

- containers! you can have two accounts to the same website open in two different tabs and switch between them without having to switch accounts. also gives firefox the ability to contain facebook and their trackers, so you can click that party invite link without feeling like you just let mark zuckerberg into your house

these were just off the top of my head, i love firefox a lot and actively enjoy using it, which i never felt with chrome! please download firefox!! you will not regret it!!! where’s your fucking rage!!!!!! go!!!!!!!!!

adding on my extensions starter pack! these are BASICS, there is a whole wide beautiful world of extensions that do useful and silly things. i can save a page im looking at to the wayback machine w a right click! (here)

  1. UBlock Origin - THE adblocker. should come preinstalled w firefox
  2. Privacy Badger, DontTrackMeGoogle, Decentraleyes, TrackMeNot - a healthy suite of track blockers and such, you can never have too many until it starts affecting your performance
  3. ClearURLs - removes all the tracking garbage pages add when you copy paste a url, also makes them shorter and less ugly
  4. Cookie Autodelete - deletes unused cookies whenever you leave a page
  5. I Don't Care About Cookies - according to voices i trust in the security community, this extension was sold to a data seller, remove if if you have it installed
  6. Return YouTube Dislikes - does what it says on the tin, install it and forget they were ever gone!
  7. Shinigami Eyes - applies off of tumblr! will highlight news sources and blogs as anti-trans as well

and if you read through this whole list and still somehow havent yet

this one tag felt so catcrumb-esque to me i started tearing up

everyone join me!!!!! on firefox!!!!!! peace and love on planet earf!!!!!!

EVERY fucking stupid liberals university in the star trek future their fucking student sketch comedy group OF COURSE has at least one Vulcan and it's like their thing where they're like "haha I bet you wouldn't expect a VULCAN in an IMPROV group!!!!!" as if this hasn't become such a fucking tired cliche like literally since 2063 every fucking comedy show has the token Vulcan to be the straight man. you're doing nothing. call me when you guys make an effort to actually include tellarites in the writing room instead of confining them to punch lines. and to be honest with you guys your Vulcan isn't even that good. his performance was highly derivative of T'min's work in the big bang theory 3 (the third big bang yheory. they make a lot of sitcom sequels in the future)

The last thing you said cannot be true because star trek is supposed to be a utopian future.

star trek is very demonstrably not a utopian future it's a broken society playing at paradise. we see hints of this earlier in the post when I mention university improv comedy groups

Do not understand people's appeals to "nature" and "biology" as higher authorities to justify the existence of oppressed people. Makes no sense to me

There's this Mark Fisher quote I come back to a lot because it was very clarifying for me:

"Emancipatory politics must always destroy the appearance of a 'natural order,' must reveal what is presented as necessary and inevitable to be a mere contingency, just as it must make what was previously deemed to be impossible seem attainable."

I think appeals to "nature" or "biology" or "God" are all variations on the same political tactic of casting the current power structures in a given time and society as innate. The goal is to convince people that these systems are necessary and inevitable, because someone convinced of this thoroughly would not be a threat to those power structures. If you believe that something is inherent to life, inevitable, that things have always been and will always be in adherence to this system, then you also believe that changing this system is literally impossible. The ideology, if internalized, strips people of any will to fight because it seems pointless--better to simply attempt to build the best life you can while oppressed within the system, because the system has always been and always will be.

It's a rhetorical and ideological tactic that I see repeatedly across all sorts of reactionary groups and oppressive structures. Whether they are claiming this as a religious belief or a scientific understanding or a historical interpretation or whatever other lens, ultimately it's the same message: it's pointless to fight; you can't win.

It's not the truth, of course. None of these power structures are innate or inevitable. We can win. It's worth it to fight.

Projection is definitely part of why fanfiction authors write characters as deeply insecure (even and especially when they are not in canon), but I don't think it's the whole story.

I think it's also that insecurity is seen as a "virtuous" character flaw. Saying that your main character is "too humble" is the fiction equivalent of telling a potential employer that your greatest weakness is working too hard. It's safer and easier than approaching those ugly but more interesting character flaws like selfishness, wrath, prejudice. Ugly things that exist in all people, to some extent.

If it is projection, it's an idealized projection to only paint one's cleanest flaws into their story.

Shocking: people who are incapable of grappling with their own flaws in anything but the most idealized and virtuous way are hostile to criticism

this goes without saying but if anyone comes on this post to talk about chinese bigotry that DOES NOT LIVE IN CHINA PERSONALLY i'm just gonna tell you to kill yourself

any and all american queers would be very well served by learning about the concept of homonationalism.

hey your boyfriend stole the still-beating heart of a dead god and it's kind of changing him. he's got gills now, also tentacles. yeah as a metaphor for human monstrosity and the blurred boundaries between fear, love, and worship. no we can't take it back he's started a cult and his followers won't let us near him. sorry.

yesterday I was at gamestop and a man in full Data cosplay walked up to the front counter and I did a double take so hard I nearly broke my neck. So, he walks up and the cashier just casually smiles and goes “How’s it going, Data? What can I do for you?”  and Data goes, “I am doing quite well. I was just wondering when you guys would have Destiny 2 in stock.” This mans……literally did not smile or emote at all. He went all in. The cashier was totally non fazed. I, however, was completely shitting my pants cos ya’ll DO NOT understand how good this dude’s cosplay was. It really looked like fuckin data teleported into the middle of game stop in rural ohio to ask about motherfucking destiny 2.

The only time he broke character was when I was stealthily trying to stare at him and thinking about asking for a pic when he was walking out. This dude. Looked at me, completely expressionless. and WINKED at me. Someone collect ya mans he wildin lmfao

The wink isn’t even really ooc I think he would totally do that

god it s so funny the logic people would use about the closeted trans headcanons thing like it always just made sense to me thats what it was but ive legit seen people be like "well if you headcanon them as trans that it means the character is getting misgendered the whole series :/ pretty problematic :/" and its like well have you also ever heard of people transitioning later in life? not realizing yet? post-series? being closeted? no? ok

the only non-problematic write a trans person in fiction is for them to be completely separate from transitioning as a verb, obviously.
