between tumblr being found guilty of moderating lgbtq content unequally during the 2018 ban in court and @ sorryforpartyrocking being nuked for suggesting one of tumblr staff may have investment in defending terfs to now many different trans women having their text posts and selfies being flagged as mature without the opportunity to appeal in any meaningful way (one of which was nuked herself)… it’s very. hmmmm. it’s a bad look. as if staff wasn’t already on thin ice for refusing to engage in any effective way with hate speech. “queerest space on the internet” my ass
hey do you guys remember that time i was getting death and rape threats from a bunch of terfs and i responded to one with pictures of my guns and said "sometimes killing is okay" and then staff deleted my post? that was weird
the transgendered are promoting evil harmful ideas such as LIKING YOUR BODY and NOT WANTING TO KILL YOURSELF
Explaining to all companies that the three requirements for me to use a social media with any frequency are:
- A chronological follow-only feed, ideally which I can set as default
- Anonymity (my real name and face are not required)
- Have a desktop version
You may call me boomer or whatever but if a social media doesn’t have bare minimum these three things then I will never use it ever. I won’t even make an account. You can suck at everything else but these are non-negotiable. The fact that they are anathema to profitability does not matter to me. If you cannot provide me these three things then I will simply not use any social media at all.

guy who doesn’t like turn-based rpgs: let me be clear, i do NOT like turn-based rpgs, fundamentally. but i’m writing this review becau
@staff openly tagging face selfies of trans women as sexual content after you already lost ONE lawsuit over queerphobic moderation is quite a fucking move
Lawsuit (linked here) required tumblr to:
- Train all employees (including subcontractors) on New York City Human Rights Law and unconscious bias, with a focus on sexual orientation and gender identity
- Have humans review user appeals on adult content. Previously they only had humans review post-removal appeals
- Revise the language used in appeal process for users
- Search random sample of previously filed appeals for terms involving sexual orientation and gender identity to identify bias and retrain AI image classifier
- Hire an expert in image classification to remove algorithmic bias around sexual orientation and gender identity and train employees on addressing image classification bias.
- Have an image classification expert complete a evaluation on bias in moderation and steps taken to address it.
- Search filed appeals after new review process in place for terms involving sexual orientation and gender identity to identify bias. Monthly reports of bias will be sent to New York City's Commission on Human Rights for 18 months.
Would be very interested to see these reports on bias as clearly it has not worked!
Man what a glitch that must have been it's crazy how it's only affected trans women how weird!! Man I tell ya technology is wild
this is probably the case but doesnt explain why their appeal/second review process failed unless that is…also automated. which would be mind numbingly poor judgment on tumblr’s part but i wouldnt put it oast em to save a buck
oh I totally buy the idea that their "manual review process" is not fully manual. if it's not entirely automatic it's almost definitely tool-assisted, or else they're outsourcing labor to somewhere where social standards are very different and they're not adequately training (or paying) content moderators. Reddit has done the same shit.
“A society which cannot tolerate genderbending or cross- dressing ultimately will not tolerate homosexuality, bisexuality, or any other deviance from sexual or gender norms, no matter how closeted or assimilated.”

the impulse to hide what I'm doing at my computer still sits so deep even tho I'm literally never looking at anything objectionable , the door will open and I'll hurry to close the page like oh fuck no one can know I'm looking at the Wikipedia page for the Balkans
I like to do ethical shoplifting where I take things from the shelves of supermarkets and leave with them without paying because I want them
It’s called “environmental amnesia” and it’s an actual issue environmentalists discuss how to combat. The climate crisis makes it more widespread but it’s been something that’s happening for generations. The story of The Lorax describes it beautifully. The idea that what you remember is what you consider normal, but if the changes happen slowly over generations, you don’t see how large they are because you don’t personally remember them being very different, even if you were told stories about it.
did you know theres a super secret tumblr badge that only trans women get its called 'flagged' and its for having a body and existing
i missed this when it happened but. oh my god.
A note to all creatives:
Right now, you have to be a team player. You cannot complain about AI being used to fuck over your industry and then turn around and use it on somebody else’s industry.
No AI book covers. No making funny little videos using deepfakes to make an actor say stuff they never did. No AI translation of your book. No AI audiobooks. No AI generated moodboards or fancasts or any of that shit. No feeding someone else’s unfinished work into Chat GPT “because you just want to know how it ends*” (what the fuck is wrong with you?). No playing around with AI generated 3D assets you can’t ascertain the origin of. None of it. And stop using AI filters on your selfies or ESPECIALLY using AI on somebody else’s photo or artwork.
We are at a crossroad and at a time of historically shitty conditions for working artists across ALL creative fields, and we gotta stick together. And you know what? Not only is standing up for other artists against exploitation and theft the morally correct thing to do, it’s also the professionally smartest thing to do, too. Because the corporations will fuck you over too, and then they do it’s your peers that will hold you up. And we have a long memory.
Don’t make the mistake of thinking “your peers” are only the people in your own industry. Writers can’t succeed without artists, editors, translators, etc making their books a reality. Illustrators depend on writers and editors for work. Video creators co-exist with voice actors and animators and people who do 3D rendering etc. If you piss off everyone else but the ones who do the exact same job you do, congratulations! You’ve just sunk your career.
Always remember: the artists who succeed in this career path, the ones who get hired or are sought after for commissions or collaboration, they aren’t the super talented “fuck you I got mine” types. They’re the one who show up to do the work and are easy to get along with.
And they especially are not scabs.
*that’s not even how it ends that’s a statistically likely and creatively boring way for it to end. Why would you even want to read that.
Jesus Christ returning from the dead: "You know what's weird? Drunk driving gets you into Valhalla. It's a huge problem tbh, they're trying to fix it."
really funny that every website is in an arms race to make itself as bad as possible and immediately someone makes a firefox extension to fix it
Sooo hilarious but I can completely see this being a real conversation between streaming execs 😏
