Ride or Die for B1 Battle Droids

i rly wanna know like americans and non-americans- were u immunised against chicken pox or did ur parents rather u just get infected as a child??

I was born just a few years before the vaccine was even available, and I contracted chickenpox before the vaccine was part of routine vaccination (and mandatory in schools).

Which doesn’t sound so bad on its own, but at sixteen my immune system collapsed, and the previous mild case of chickenpox I had at nine suddenly gave me a violent and atypical case of shingles. My whole damn body was covered in pustules, even down my throat. Wherever there was skin, it was covered in pox. I nearly died. The doctors told my mother if she had waited just two more hours to get me to the hospital in Indy (my hometown hospital refused to even give me an E.R. bed ‘because it’s just chickenpox’, despite our pleas that I was immunocompromised), I would have died.

I was out of school for three months with a PICC line going straight to my heart pumping acyclovir into me even after I was discharged from the PICU. I never recovered academically and I ended up forced out of school the next year because they hated that I was wrecking attendance records with my frequent illnesses.

It’s only in the last five years that most of the pox scars have faded. I was sixteen then. I’m thirty now.

People/parents love to think that chickenpox is a normal and harmless part of childhood, almost a right of passage. Oh it’s just a week or so if mild itching, life will go on. No need to get my child vaccinated. Hell, let’s intentionally infect our young child by hosting chickenpox party! Better to have it at a young age, they say! But I wasn’t immunocompromised yet when I got chickenpox at 9. And at sixteen that same “harmless” virus latent within me nearly killed me. And even with the basic chickenpox, things can and have gone catastrophically wrong. Your perfectly healthy kid might come into contact with another kid on chemo. Suddenly that kid can die just like I almost did. Even your perfectly healthy kid can have a freak reaction and be killed by chickenpox.

The chickenpox vaccine has been around and available for over two decades now. Chickenpox and further complications like shingles are completely avoidable. Get your kid vaccinated

A vaccine wasn’t available when I was a kid so I picked it up at the age of four. My brother’s best friend came to visit and sat with me awhile to cheer me up- only to catch them himself at 15. He took them home to his dad- never had them. Half his family ended up in the hospital and his dad nearly died. Get your vaccines, folks.

Coach the NBA Finals, or perform in the Superbowl Halftime Show? I’d coach the NBA Finals because uh, I know more about basketball than performing at a halftime show. [x]

I've been reading facts on Wikipedia again, and i'm overcome with the need to terrify non-Americans with the most underrated Terrifying American Thing: TORNADOES

Due to a quirk of mountain and ocean placement, the east-central United States has a higher number of tornadoes (particularly exceptionally strong tornadoes) than any other place on Earth.

And they're so fucking scary oh my God

Reasons tornadoes are So Fucking Scary:

  • they can form really suddenly and move really fast, so you have like a few minutes of warning when one happens
  • their behavior is arbitrary and unpredictable. They can obliterate your house and leave your neighbor's house untouched
  • the most powerful tornadoes are so strong that it's nearly impossible to even measure them because measuring equipment is straight up obliterated in those conditions, but they've been known to exceed 480 km/h wind speeds.
  • please just read this wiki article it's the scariest fucking thing ever
  • like with F5 tornadoes you'll see a lot of stuff about trucks, SUVs, furniture, appliances from homes like refrigerators etc being "lost/missing" and you may think to yourself "how does something that large just get 'lost' surely there's a better description of what happened"
  • and well. the above article does provide the 'better' description. And it's "granulated."
  • As in, "debris from many of the obliterated homes was finely granulated."

As a born and bred Alabamian, reading this is very funny when you're so desensitized to them that when you're woken up at 3 am by the sirens theres a very good chance you'll be like "if its my time its my time" and go right tf back to sleep

I mean I've been there but I contain multitudes okay

Tornados can put a 4x4 through concrete but also that siren going off right when my muffins come out of the oven is annoyingly inconvenient…

I want All the Non-USAmericans to understand that the movie Twister, as far the tornados are concerned, is mostly accurate. The only major flaw is that the chances of multiple tornadoes of that magnitude forming that close together out of one weather system is nigh onto impossible.

Also there's no way in hell that man didn't have full coverage on that brand new truck.

Uh… Um… Ships aren’t illegal.

Ships are ONLY ILLEGAL IF...

The Vessel switches off their location-transmission devices, thereby making themselves a HAZARD TO MARITIME NAVIGATION, in order to ENGAGE IN ILLEGAL ACTS.

The Vessel is FRAUDULENTLY DISPLAYING a national flag that is NOT OF THEIR REGISTERED PORT OF ORIGIN.

The Vessel is otherwise engaged in ACTS THAT VIOLATE SOLEMN MARITIME LAW, and may face fines and prosecution in admiralty court for their offense in their port of origin or nation in which the offense was registered.

Other than that, no ships are illegal.

Actually I regret to inform you some ships ARE illegal. Sailing a ship you know to not be seaworthy may constitute insurance fraud, which is very illegal.

Today instead of a problematic ship, we present you the guidelines on how to avoid the most common mistakes that result in a ship becoming problematic.

“The Vessel is FRAUDULENTLY DISPLAYING a national flag that is NOT OF THEIR REGISTERED PORT OF ORIGIN.”

You mean... that... I have to tag my ship???

Q: As someone who was a teenager for Section 28 Part 1, I just want to […] say a massive thank you for speaking up about Section 28 Part 2. What’s it been like at the moment, working on a show that has got such cool and interesting things to say about gender broadly and masculinity more specifically?
