I had a whole in-depth infodump about this AU but Tumblr decided to unalive itself when I tried to save the draft so !! It's all gone fml!!

All you really need to know is that Zim is a changeling, changelings are bug-like shape-shifters who feed off of love. Dib knows this but nobody believes him blah blah blah you know the rest!! Top image is Zim, partially reformed, bottom is Zim's pony disguise

(reforming is a process evil characters go through in the pony universe where they become good, it's usually represented by a change in appearance. Reforming changelings can happen gradually with someone willingly sharing love with one, or it can happen at once with a changeling willingly sharing love with someone)
