New MoonWake Cover Art– A loose take on my beloved Gothic Romance paperbacks (feat. all the moths you can eat!!)

[Image ID: Image 1: Color illustration. Spindly branches partially obscure a young woman, standing against a bright yellow full moon and a dark blue sky. The young woman looks fearfully over her shoulder at the viewer. Her long black hair is blowing in the wind and long strands are covering part of her face. Her one visible eye glows yellow in the moonlight. Small white moths flitter about her and in the branches.

Image 2: Cover image. The same as the previous image, but with the title, “MoonWake,” written at the top of the image in bold yellow type. Image 3: Ink drawings of many different moths. The moths are mint green against a pale blue background. The colors are done in an offset, flat style, like a traditional print. End ID]

So, it's $185 to get our car's catalytic converter replaced (materials and labor), and I'm like, pleading because the only other option is my dad selling his turntable which he adores. Can we uhhh, find a way to get us back on the road or at least able to sell this car?

do you think people who are into reylo wanted fiona to go through with the wedding to lord farquaad

Avatar

no, you know what fuck this. fuck you. we need to talk about the FEAR in max's eyes here. Like all he wanted was to be loved by someone. by ANYONE. And to be a fair and decent leader. like wow Shrek and dreamworks i expected better from you than a message about how abuse victims ultimately deserve to be eaten by a big dragon. i suppose you think that's feminist because she's a girl dragon. what about fiona's sexual empowerment? Fuck this. max deserved better. i've had it with this franchise. whatever at least we have fanfic. new chapter of my farqiona kinktober entry will be up on friday

So I’m in the garderobe at the ye olde market wherein I toil wiping my hands minding my own business, and I notice this maiden scowling at me. Note I’m wearing my hair in a medieval pageboy style and have a 'seize the ogre' tunic on. So I’m like

“make thy quarrel known wench”

And she just says

“Are you a fucking farqiona?”

and she started screaming like some wilde beaft at me so I was like 'stay thy tongue!' and her mother runs in and says 'verily let it be known the lord farquaad and the princess are to be wed!' and had.her thrown in the stocks for all of duloc to see her shame. And bought for me a whole suckling pig to apologise. a like, most merry day indeed

The post that inspired this

Remember: this is what makes you a writer. Yes, this. The sick feeling in your stomach, the weariness you feel, the utter conviction that you are the Worst and your novel is the Worst and everything is awful. This is how writers feel sometimes. (This is how everyone feels sometimes.)   But writers do not let this feeling overwhelm them.

It’s important to learn that the feeling of poignant inspiration and even obsession with your wip isn’t always going to be present. Strong feelings ebb and flow for just about everything in life.

There’s nothing wrong with you. There’s nothing wrong with your idea.

Just keep it up! Write on anyway!

Sometimes it is very important to be awkward, inelegant, jerking, to be neither poetic nor prosaic, to be positively bad. To express other possibilities for bodies, alternative values, to stop making sense.

— Zadie Smith, “Dance Lessons for Writers,” Feel Free

“It’s like magic, the relationship between the writer and the writing, the rewriting and the real world that impinges upon it. Intelligence, education, sophistication, and the craft of writing all potentially hinder a novel that is trying to be born.

"The story isn’t there to expose the writer’s brilliance or her intricate interpretations. It, the novel, is there to drain her lifeblood, to challenge her morals, and say that there exists a more vital life than her own.

"To that end, when the Voice of the novel asks, “Why not take this detour and see if we can get something out of it?—“ you should listen.”

Walter Mosley, “Elements of Fiction”

[McSWEENEY’S: Why write poetry?

LINDENBERG: I think there is a general misconception that you write poems because you “have something to say.” I think, actually, that you write poems because you have something echoing around in the bone-dome of your skull that you cannot say. Poetry allows us to hold many related tangential notions in very close orbit around each other at the same time. The “unsayable” thing at the center of the poem becomes visible to the poet and reader in the same way that dark matter becomes visible to the astrophysicist. You can’t see it, but by measure of its effect on the visible, it can become so precise a silhouette you can almost know it.]

I love workers airing the dirty laundry of their workplaces, and I mean that especially for “progressive” workplaces.

I love nonprofit workers complaining about getting paid poverty wages I love public library staff (circ staff & pages esp!) complaining about getting hours cut when the minimum wage is raised I love teachers making it clear how much unpaid labor they’re expected to perform I love public transit workers complaining about shit benefits I love Planned Parenthood staff complaining about minuscule maternity leave I love people working for the ‘public good’ demanding that their workplaces are not actively hazardous

I love loud, angry people who will not sacrifice themselves for the PR of the industry, organization, or movement.

american leftists seem extremely focused on anti imperialism (good) but rarely- if at all- discuss decolonization in their own fucking country, despite acknowledging that it is a settler colonial state.

Avatar

im serious about this though. as an urban indian, i definitely cant speak on this as much as a rez indian could. but i know from talking to rez friends i have and from what the american indian movement has screamed for over the years that we need land we can grow on, we need clean water, we need to allow the wildlife that once lived in this land to live here again (meaning you need to listen to us before building those high speed rails you all get so hard over).

you cant drool over the zapatistas while ignoring people in your own country who have a similar goal

silly me I never provided things to read on the topic of decolonization! I'd personally suggest the following as "beginner level" essential reading to understand decolonization:

Discourse on Colonialism (Aimé Césaire) - this is more a focus on colonization, but I feel it's a necessary read in my opinion as in order to understand decolonization I believe it's important to first understand colonization.

Wretched of the Earth (Franz Fanon)

Decolonization is Not a Metaphor (Tuck, Yang)

also an "easy to process" read, to understand landback specifically here in Turtle Island, I'd suggest reading The Red Deal (there is a pdf, I don't mean the article with the same title)

Discourse on Colonialism (PDF, ebook, mobi)

The Wretched of the Earth (PDF, ebook)

Decolonization is Not a Metaphor (PDF)

The Red Deal (PDFs of Part 1, Part 2, Part 3)
