The Radioactive Man Who Returned To Fukushima To Feed The Animals That Everyone Else Left Behind

Naoto Matsumura is the only human brave enough to live in Fukushima’s 12.5-mile exclusion zone

He fled at first but returned to take care of the animals that were left behind

He returned for his own animals at first, but realized that so many more needed his help, too

Matsumura, who is 55 years old, knows that the radiation is harmful, but he “refuses to worry about it”

“They also told me that I wouldn’t get sick for 30 or 40 years. I’ll most likely be dead by then anyway, so I couldn’t care less”

Matsumura discovered that thousands of cows had died locked in barns

He also freed many animals that had been left chained up by their owners

Many of them now rely on him for food

The government has forbidden him from staying, but that doesn’t stop him either

He started in 2011 and is still going strong 4 years later

He relies solely on donations from supporters to work with and feed the animals

His supporters are calling him the ‘guardian of Fukushima’s animals’

The man clearly has a sense of humor as well

This hero deserves way more notes.

There should be a way to donate to this guy

Actually I spent some time and I found a link to donate to him. Click here to be sent to a website where you can donate to his efforts

Ma Kettle’s previous owner — who called her Lady — died in 2012, leaving her homeless. She then arrived & was adopted out of the Chautauqua County Animal Shelter, in Kansas, but then given away again for not getting along with a new puppy.

She then escaped her third home, and walked back nearly 30 miles to the family with the puppy, but the journey ended with her being sent back to the shelter..

After her sad story went viral, she is now adopted by the heiress of Wrigley (Helen Rosburg, also known as the author Helen Rich) and will spend the rest of her life in an 11,000 square foot home on 100-odd acres, with a whole menagerie of furry rescue companions & will be spoiled and loved.

Here she is on a private jet to her new home:

MY FUCKING HEART

i actually teared up omg

Love it.

I used to think home was the bottom of a wine bottle Or a 2am bar fight. Home was time zones, dirty fingernails, glasses half full. It was forgetting to call my parents and spilling coffee on my white sweater. Six months later, it’s 8am and you’re lying next to me. The sunlight coming in from our bedroom window hits your face at the perfect angle. You teach me about Hemmingway and how his own loneliness drove him mad. We eat breakfast on the floor and I say, “I was damaged goods before I met you. Russian Roulette with my finger waiting patiently on the trigger. Everything around me was static noise, dead roses, and coffee grounds. I considered mistakes and kisses to be of the same value and projected my love on to other people when I couldn’t figure out how to love myself. But one look at you and all of this collateral damage doesn’t seem so collateral anymore. I trace your body like a map. The indents in your spine let me know that I am home. And by home I mean pomegranate seeds, Afternoon plans, my finger off the trigger. By home I mean water colors, comfortable silence, and the birthmark on your left shoulder. And I know that my love is messy and unorganized most of the time but your skin is the closest thing I have ever called to home.”

1/14/16, this one isn’t about you but i hope it can be someday (a.aquilo)
