Obsessed with pre-Enterprise Kirk being "grim and bookish". We have a canon back story of him ruining a guy's career by reporting a mistake because Starfleet regulations required it. He's rising through the ranks but is manifestly made unhappy by the pressures of command, as he admits to Bones in Balance of Terror.
But then so often in TOS he's this flirty heart eyes motherfucker. The only possible explanation for this change in personality is Spock? That's the major thing that's changed in his life, the presence of this weird tall alien who says absolutely wild shit with a completely straight face and makes Kirk stop taking everything so seriously
I love the tribbles episode because we see this in action. Kirk is pissed off the whole episode and then he goes to the mess hall and sees Spock petting the tribble and he almost SOBS. It's like "Ok. Bad day but everything's gonna be alright. Spock is here and he's doing his weird thing. This is my gravitational constant."
Isn't it kind of beautiful that the guy everyone thinks is unemotional is the exact person that makes Kirk step back and look at the universe with a sense of humor?
pls bear with me i'm still trying to figure out whether i want to keep this blog strictly star trek or throw in my occasional current book or otome hyperfixation
Nichelle Nichols’s impact can not be overstated.
She was the first black woman to go to space on tv (and her impact on representation on TV should also not be understated) but she also campaigned for NASA applications of diverse voices. Her campaign led to the recruitment of Sally Ride (first American woman in space), col. Guion Bluford (first black astronaut in NASA), and Mae Jeminson (first black woman in space).
Without her personal recruitment campaign (which she threatened to sue NASA if she put her reputation on the line to bring in these applications if they then did not go on to hire any of them) who knows how much longer it would have taken to get anyone other than a white man as a NASA astronaut.
To the woman that inspired countless girls and people of color, we will never forget you.
You will always be in our hearts.
Thank you for going where no woman had gone before.

I must admit, star trek fans are kinda scary. Like you mention something off handedly that you saw in an episode once and someone's like "ah yes Star Trek Footjob, season 72 episode 14, the bling-blongening"
maybe this silly little coffee drink will equip me to face the unrelenting and unendurable horror of existence
what if i just rewatch all of the original series and the next gen. Like what if I juSt
the naked time is the best trek episode because it tells us that spock is canonically a sad drunk. like spock gets drunk and starts crying about how much he loves his mom. that’s real and i feel like we don’t talk abt it enough
one of my friends who never uses facebook just logged in to post “currently going beastmode on the fool who pilfered my lint roller”
TO ALL THE MUTUALS I NEVER TALK TO:
i love you and I’m so happy we’re mutuals! ♡
You’re not going to admit that for the first time in your life, you committed a purely human, emotional act?
No, sir.
