CURRENT EVENTS SIDEBLOG IS KINTAPOLITICA

This is both my personal and art blog.
I totally understand random unfollows (most of the time) and it's perfectly cool if you just stalk my art tag because you're not interested in other stuff.

I am super pleased when people color my lineart as long as I'm properly credited (and also tagged because I want to see it raaar)

I don't really care what kind of pronouns you use for me but I'm most used to lady-type ones.

Weird invasive philosophy questions, asks about the Adoption Post, and asks that are identifiable as Mark F are now 3$ if you want them to be considered.

This is basically a personal-and-fandom-and-art blog

I reblogged the post about discussing wages in 2018 and the reason the link is broken is probably because the article was either put behind a paywall or the information is no longer accurate, which is a thing that happens; I was going off a poster my place of employment was legally required to have posted and which was counting on people not reading because the print was small and the source link was basically the quickest reference I found that didn’t use a ton of legalese

  • I am not the OP
  • I do not want to discuss it with you

The Adoption Post is about a lot of things but it was primarily set off by a conversation with a different employer, who had known me for less than three months at the time.

  • I am in my thirties and am old enough by years to make my own decisions.
  • A lot of y’all seem to be forgetting MY reproductive rights are getting talked about here.
  • Pro lifers will be blocked on sight.
  • Radfems will be blocked on sight.
  • “Children are human beings” should not be a difficult concept.
  • I have already been a child’s primary caretaker.  The circumstances are not your business.
  • I do not want to discuss it with you.

The post about the word “adulting” was about using my phone to do things like depositing paychecks and looking up how to clean things at my current place of employment and how if I’d said “for adult purposes” instead of “adulting purposes” it would have sounded kind of dirty.

  • I really don’t care about this one as much I just think it’s really stupid how much some of you do.

Wanna be rude, annoying or invasive in my inbox?

Here’s my ko-fi.  You’re not paying me to actually answer, I wanna note; this is the only way I’ll consider spending my time and precious energy on it.

None of this applies to why you’re here?

Feel absolutely free to talk to me about art, my webcomic, and random facts about shit you like.

Have a pic of a space elf with a nice ass.

polly pocket's room, but make it pixel art!

here’s the original screenshot of the game that i redrew... i wanted to have a room like hers sooo bad when i was a kid!! :’)

"Wheelchairs can mean freedom and be life affirming tools" pleaaaaase coexist with "wheelchairs can be dangerous and cause you to get sicker faster"

On the wheelchairs can be dangerous issue, muscles are a use it or lose it kinda deal. If you're not walking because your joints are poorly supported and hurt, you need to be doing extra exercise to prevent atrophy and further pain and suffering. If you're using a wheelchair at all, you need to be familiar with contracture, pressure injuries, digestive issues, and atrophy so you can prevent them. Make sure you're not sitting down all day with your knees bent and then sleeping on your side with your knees bent or they'll get stuck that way. Make sure you have a cushion under your butt at all times in that wheelchair. Keep doing your physical therapy so you don't lose skills. It's not a "don't ever use a wheelchair" it's a "be very careful and make sure you're taking care of yourself because there's more work to do now"

Ambulatory users will have less issues but that doesn't mean they'll have none.

So this is a piece of good news that I have a small stake in. The Oregon silverspot butterfly (Speryeria zerene hippolyta) once flew along the coast from San Mateo County in California to my stomping grounds up here on the Long Beach Peninsula in extreme southwest Washington. As with many herbivorous insects, the caterpillar of this species has a very limited diet--in fact, the only thing it can eat is the leaves of the early blue violet (Viola adunca). The violets grow in coastal meadows where they get plenty of sun; unfortunately, due to fire suppression and development, most of these meadows are either heavily damaged or no longer exist. And no violets means no butterflies.

Today, the last wild populations include four sites in Oregon and one in Northern California. Over the past few decades conservationists have been working to protect and restore coastal meadows, and both the Oregon Zoo in Portland and the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle have active breeding programs for Oregon silverspots. The caterpillars are raised in captivity, and then when they pupate they are placed in suitable release sites. Some of these are in established populations, but they have also more recently been reintroduced to parts of their historic range where they had been extirpated, such as Nestucca Bay National Wildlife Refuge and Saddle Mountain in Oregon.

This latest release is the largest at Saddle Mountain, with over 2000 silverspot pupae being released there. It's also the site closest to where I am--maybe fifty miles away as the butterfly soars--and people here have been preparing for years for either a planned release or the natural dispersal of butterflies. Willapa National Wildlife Refuge has been engaged in multiple habitat restoration projects over the years, and this includes a restored meadow with a large patch of early blue violets. The farm owned by my friends that I live on also has extensive early blue violet plantings, and there's also a commercial native plant nursery on site that includes the violets as part of their seasonal offerings.

It is my hope that within my lifetime I will get to see the Oregon silverspot flying here on the peninsula. The latest Saddle Mountain release makes it that much more likely that my hope will become reality.

Audio processing disorder is just like "you are going to be able to differentiate 27 distinct sounds happening simultaneously EXCEPT for when someone's talking to you. Good luck"

People think because my ears are so unreasonably sensitive I must also be able to "hear" them. This is false. I can hear the clock ticking though

ancient humans were also just some guy, if you got a baby from 60,000 BC and raised him in the 21st century he’d just be another teen boy named logan who tech decks off your arm

ok ok ok I’m so sorry but I HAVE to talk about this

there’s something so loving about what tom björklund does and just- fuck I’m foaming at the mouth here

facial reconstruction isn’t a new concept (see the Kennewick Man/Patrick Stewart incident) but it’s difficult to find people that are truly good at it! genuinely there is a big gap in this field because there just aren’t a lot of people who do it professionally!

facial reconstruction, especially from bone or bone fragments, is such a fascinating intersection of art and science, and a tremendous amount of care is put into determining what these people might have looked like.

with that said, it’s VERY easy to screw it up

configuring muscle attachments and fat distribution is genuinely *very* difficult to do, and when you do it badly, you get this (pictured above). by adding too much muscle, they gave this 600 year old man a VERY interesting jawline (notice that the bottom of the chin doesn’t match up with the bone at all!) and they *really* made him look older than he was. would you believe me if I said that he was estimated to only be 46 years old?

basically I’m just REALLY excited about Tom Björklund’s art because it’s amazing work, just from an anthropology perspective

just look at this!!!

facial reconstructions aren’t just an artsy thing that you can just say “oh, that’s cool!” to

by giving these people faces, even if they aren’t always accurate, we open the doors for the average person to connect with the past at a very human level. sure, looking at bones is cool, but looking at art of someone that lived thousands of years ago is *incredible*

looking at a picture of a boy that lived thousands of years ago and thinking “yeah, he would’ve loved Minecraft” is EXACTLY the reaction that these pieces are meant to elicit

Declutter Tumblr

The new layout it a whole mess. Thankfully Xkit can already help with a bunch of this! I'm sure it'll give more options soon.

Vanilla Tumblr: (I have marked in red what can be removed. The tabs can be set not to stick, so you will really only see them at the top of your dash. Empty box on the left for hidden notifications and shop sparkle, i just didn't have any. I'm EU so no Live for me).
