Behind the scenes of Adventure Time, Adventure Time: Distant Lands & Adventure Time: Fionna & Cake

Come Along With Me second thumbnail storyboard pitch by writer/storyboard artist Steve Wolfhard

“I just found some old recorded Adventure Time thumbnail pitches, from when I was boarding from Canada. I've uploaded my revised thumbnail pass of the finale on YouTube (Adam or whoever would pause the video and let Tom pitch his sections, like the stuff with the warcamp and Maja etc, I don't honestly know why I'm not saying "pause here" during this video)”

It was really cool to get to draw some Finn and Jakes when I was on Adventure Time Distant Lands, it felt very full circle for me! I took a character design test when Adventure Time first started. The test was mailed to me in New Zealand. I didn’t get the job, I also did a pretty bad job on the test LOL! I think I did it in markers? But 10+ years later I got to be lead character designer on Adventure Time! Shout out to Danny, who did this turn of Jake that I modified to be in ice!

Some cloud people, distance models and a head exploding that I drew for “Adventure Time: Together Again” as Lead Character Designer! Rumble Jaw was the code name the production used so people wouldn’t work out we were making more Adventure Time! If you haven’t seen these specials, they’re on HBO Max and they’re awesome!

“During the whole 9ish years I worked on Adventure Time, I only had a couple of AT related dreams, and this was one of them, which I jotted down after I woke up. If the show had gone on longer I might've made a whole episode out of it, but I did manage to get the book-gun idea into the finale.”

exploration sketches and baby thumbnails for AT: Distant Lands - BMO

I tend to make tiny little thumbnails just to get my thoughts out, before drawing them into a storyboard panel. It might not be the most effective way to do it, but it's how my brain works.

These are for the first part of BMO

As people have been rolling off, I’ve seen some buds post lil drawings for Fionna and Cake, and I figured I’d do one too! SO, I rolled off awhile ago, but I had the absolute honor to board some things for Fionna and Cake! I’m so so excited about it and it was such a fun time =]

I can’t wait for everyone to see this show! It’s gonna be amazing.
