This series of pics @thesmigiel did for NHIA are my favorite thing right now.
Block of sketchbook pics. Most of these were done at a family dinner thing. Cept the last one, which is my pokemon team from Omega Ruby. Mudkip 4 life!
Another block of sketchbook images. The girls’ dormatory pic is a scene from Sabriel, which is the first in a super good book series that @gracejenfoolery got me to read.
Something random.
What will you be reading while you find new love in February?! Here’s what we think…
Anyone reading Emma Ríos’ work in Pretty Deadly should be checking this out! To gain a wider audience, Ríos and Hwei Lim’s 8house story Mirror has been pushed back and re-solicited as its own series. It’s the same book–don’t worry, if you’re already a Fantom 8house subscriber, we automatically signed you up for this one.
Mirror takes place in the same world as 8house, but it’s an all-new tale “following a terrorist talking dog, an idealist mage, and a heroic lab rat on their quest for acceptance.” The main story of each issue is written by Ríos with gorgeous watercolor art by Lim, and each issue will have a backup story written by Lim and drawn by Ríos.
Wet Moon vol. 1: Feeble Wanderings new edition - Sophie Campbell (Oni)
Sophie Campbell has blown up the last few years with Glory and Jem and the Holograms, so we’re pleased to see Oni Press republishing her acclaimed original series Wet Moon with new extras and covers designed by Annie Mok!
Princess Jellyfish vol. 1 - Akiko Higashimura (Kodansha)
We’ve been waiting for this popular Japanese shōjo series to get a Stateside release for a while now! Princess Jellyfish is about a geeky young girl obsessed with jellyfish who’s trying to find her place in the big city, unraveling mysteries with cool fashion designers along the way. YOU WANT IT
From Now On - Malachi Ward (Alternative)
Re-solicited after a printing error (exciting!), we can’t wait for this book of haunting, existential sci-fi short stories by Malachi Ward of Island and Prophet fame.
This one’s pretty tailor-made for our readers. From the solicit: “Jonesy is a self-described “cool dork” who spends her time making zines nobody reads, watching anime, and listening to riot grrrl bands and 1D simultaneously. But she has a secret nobody knows. She has the power to make people fall in love! Anyone. With anything. She’s a cupid in plaid. With a Tumblr. There’s only one catch-it doesn’t work on herself.”
Next sketchbook pages. A couple of roughs and a couple of things I’ve posted colored versions of already.
I love that little imp dude. :3
Previously posted Samsona sketches. My friends decided that the roast beef melt dude was so ugly it could only be a new-generation pokemon. So he got a pork pre-volution.
Next page in the sketchbook.
People seem to like this one, I think because of the fun shading, but all I see is how nasty that snake anatomy is. The perils of drawing without reference. I’ve kept up using this kind of shading, though, so it worked out.
My gentleman companion has been playing a bunch of Disgaea 5. He pointed out that the main character ladies tend to always use staves and guns, so I designed him a new lady hero for each of the standard tropes. Here’s the first.
More sketchbook stuff. This has some derpy and duplicate stuff in it, but I’m not skipping any pages.
Thanks @aurorahavingfun
