At the National Rifle Association’s (NRA) annual convention in Louisville, Kentucky, the Guardian asked: What do liberals get wrong about guns?

Team “Revenant”
represents one of the primordial truths in the world…Death is only the beginning. This will be a reminder to the other teams. If the balance is distorted, Death is always watching
*just for fun, quick little logo animation
Just a daily reminder that’s especially relevant.
Fuck Hilary.
Hilary Duff did nothing wrong.
Hillary Clinton, however. Yeah, fuck her.

Watch/Read: Donald Trump’s full RNC speech
“I sometimes fear that people think that fascism arrives in fancy dress worn by grotesques and monsters as played out in endless re-runs of the Nazis.
Fascism arrives as your friend. It will restore your honour, make you feel proud, protect your house, give you a job, clean up the neighbourhood, remind you of how great you once were, clear out the venal and the corrupt, remove anything you feel is unlike you…
It doesn’t walk in saying, “Our programme means militias, mass imprisonments, transportations, war and persecution.”
- Michael Rosen
Nothing Trump wants to do is remotely fascist. Give me a break. Unless you think having controlled borders is fascist.
Trump will also be the president, not a dictator. He can not act unilaterally. He has to work with congress to find solutions to the problems.
During his speech he included LGBT people and didn’t say anything about protecting traditional values. He also didn’t mention abortion. He’s the most center republican candidate we’ve had in a very long time.
He wants to build a wall along the borders. He called Mexicans rapists and murderers. He IS A FACIST
Those aren’t compatible in and of themselves. Building a wall is not fascism. Neither is (undeservedly) calling Mexicans rapists and murderers.
And I’ve worked the border for over a decade. A wall wouldn’t hurt
Except economically, historically, and foreign relations. Other than those minor things, a wall wouldn’t hurt.
It also wouldn’t stop or slow down anything but w.e.
Economically it wouldn’t change a thing. Goods go through the POE. Historically I’m not sure what you mean. Foreign relations, not a bad point there
And yes it does slow down. Not stop, certainly. But slow down, yes it does. Been there, seen it. Worked it.
A wall costs money to build just in terms of materials. Then you have to pay people to build it plus if they get hurt and the list goes on. And they will, given that it would have to be a very long and tall wall.
Historically, I was referring to the Berlin wall. It’s not exactly viewed favorably, is it? But now I’m also thinking about the Great Wall. Didn’t exactly keep out the Mongols, did it? And they didn’t have the tech we do now. Walls like the Great Wall and the Berlin Wall became pretty obsolete once we mastered flying and dropping bombs
Putting people to work hurts the economy? You’re stretching here
The wall is not meant for military invasion. It ain’t the Maginot Line. It’s for illegal aliens
Another fucking shooting. 2 dead and 17 injured as of now.
But no, we don’t need gun control.
Fuck you, America. We need to get out shit together.
What sort of firearms legislation would you like to see put into place?
- Mandatory background checks - Require a license to purchase and own firearms - Mandatory safety training to acquire a license, must be renewed at specific intervals (5yrs?) - Mandatory registration for all firearms - Centralized, national database for all license-bearing citizens that will allow law enforcement to see who owns what, and where.
- Law enforcement must be notified when particular firearms are being moved (automatic weapons, pistols, and other dangerous / concealable weaponry), and the weapon can only be moved between the locations indicated to law enforcement. Bolt-action and semi-automatic rifles do not need to be reported.
- Safe-storage requirements for all firearms: – Firearms must be stored with the action locked when not in use – Firearms must be stored unloaded – Ammunition must be stored separately from firearms in a fire-proof container/safe/what have you.
Don’t need to take anyone’s guns away, but I feel like firearms need to be respected and treated as “dangerous goods.” The ability to own and operate firearms should be a privilege, not a right.
Well it is a right, wishes aside. So, within that framework, and the reality of 300+million guns already in existence, what do you propose?
All of the above. My wishful thinking doesn’t invalidate the aforementioned points. See also my reblog from @bigwordsandsharpedges My perspective may seem strange, but I’m on the outside looking in.
The only people that will obey you list is the very people you don’t need to worry about. So your list will do zero to address the actual problem, so it rather does invalidate the list
Again, you cannot magic away 300 million plus guns that already exist, and no gun law passed will impact them. So, you’re kinda stuck there
Additionally, none of what you posted would have impacted any of the recent publicized shootings
It’s not about whether or not people obey them; a criminal is a criminal. The idea is (I’m repeating myself) to create sufficient barriers-to-entry when it comes to purchasing a gun that those who want to do so for less-than-desirable purposes will be dissuaded.
I’m not saying that these would have prevented or impacted previous shootings. I can’t know that. No one can.
What I’m saying is hey, here are some ideas. Perhaps we could try them, see how they work, and adapt them as we go.
There is no sense arguing to the point of stagnation. Something has to give, no? What can we control? What can we change?
I’m looking at the problem trying to solve it in a forward-thinking fashion. Trying to fix a problem by applying proposed solutions to fixed, past-tense outcomes isn’t how the process works. You don’t learn anything from that.
Unless of course, you don’t think there is a problem. In which case this discussion is fruitless.
I understand what you’re trying to achieve. I’m stating that there is such an overwhelming supply already in existence that your policy would impact nothing other than to harass law abiding gun owners. All squeeze, no juice, in other words.
And I can 100% state that these policies would have not have affected any of the shootings, because they had no records, nothing that would have precluded them based on your list.
The facts are these - 30,000 plus people are killed every year while driving. That’s the price we pay for the freedom of the road, at those speeds. We could lower the max speed of any car to 30 mph and save tens of thousands of lives a year but we feel that it’s not served to do so
10,000 are murdered every year with guns. That’s the price we pay to be able to defend ourselves, to hunt, to have a check on governmental tyranny.
Car driving is a privilege. Gun ownership is a right.
Everyone is saying that the professor is grinding the Pokémon into candy, but consider the following:
• The professor frantically running around with assistants, inspecting hundreds of thousands of pidgeys a day, getting bitten and screeched at while they try to figure out if this pidgey has been tagged yet so they release them back to track their migration
• Panicked interns trying to scoop the ekanses back into their tank because theyre freaking out the rattatas
• Three caterpies climbed into a vent and evolved into metapods that are too far in to reach so six underpaid college students are trying to dismantle ductwork
• Theres a big door marked “KEEP OUT” because a dozen oddish evolved into a squad of Vileplumes and until they stop releasing stun spores the entire room is just off limits
• Hundreds of researchers running on red bull and determination trying to tag and examine all the Pokemon but having to turn off the machine every once in a while to the discontent of trainers who are all getting a “Sorry, the servers are currently down” message at LEAST twice a day
• “GPS not found” flashes while returning a big group and suddenly Florida has been gifted 6,000 mankeys right in the middle of Epcot
• Someone in the back room up to their waist in stale dog treats with a bunch of little stamps. They sigh deeply at how gullible Pokemon trainers are that they think these things actually do anything other than excite the Pokemon so much they evolve
• Actual science professor surrounded by chaos and interns and a budget just too small
I approve this so much.
I love this headcanon.
Technically, you know every number between one and one billion, even though you have never seen, heard, or said it.
I drew this like three years ago and I don’t know why the hell I didn’t upload it at that time.
