Some of it actually is! There’s a specific regional accent (IIRC it’s from somewhere in the northeast, possibly Delaware?) which is particularly neutral to the American ear and therefore carries an air of authority and professionalism that other regional accents don’t because we don’t identify it with a particular region that we may have preconceived notions about. Newscasters will do accent training to learn that accent so that what they are saying is taken more seriously.
